Steal this Cameo

I've found that I cannot stop writing new characters... and while I'd love to use them all in my own games, I can't, so I'm going to start a new series of threads anyone else can jump on: Steal this Cameo (Kinda stealing from WotC's "Steal this Hook". :P ).

Ahem...

The large man you have been drinking next to is clearly a paladin; the holy symbol of Heironious suggests he is valiant, his posture that he is or once was a military man, his scarred and yet handsome face that he has seen his share of horrors, his deep, wizened eyes that he has learned much in his time, and his friendly smile that he has become very skilled at hiding whatever marred him so badly.
He notices your attention and frowns slightly, then turns back toward the bar and signals for another drink, "Can I help you, stranger?"

Blaine Kedric
Male Human
Age: 42
Alignment: Lawful Good
Archetype: Wise/Jaded Warrior
Story:

Blaine Kedric is the disgraced general of -insert recently conquered country/citystate/noble family/etc...-. Once the pride of his people, and the most hated enemy his people's foes, he fought and won many a battle until he was finally outmaneuvered on the -insert name befitting your setting- Plains. His proud army was destroyed even as he fought beside them, and once he was the only one left, his opponents overwhelmed and laid waste to him.
The next he knew, he awoke bound to a stake in front of thousands of people. From the precious few minutes he had, he learned that he was in -insert country/citystate/noble family/etc...-. The desecrated circle around him kept his prayers from reaching his god as he watched his most worthy opponent, General Kyrsh of -last place-, heft the paladin's own sword in his hands. Then, with little more than a few spiteful words, the beast of a man plunged the cold steel through Blaine's chest. As his vision began to fade, he saw Kyrsh take his own greataxe in hand.

All at once there was pain and dark, then nothing, and then light. The warmth soothed his aching muscles and his troubled soul. It assured him that his servitude was honorable, though he felt unworthy... but before it could accept him into his afterlife, something pulled him away, far away from the comforting light. He should have reached out, but he was instead consumed once more by the inconclusive darkness.
"I knew you'd be back," a sadistic voice sneered. It belonged to a taller, skinnier fellow Blaine recognized as Fer'ad, second general of -last place-. This time he was in a cell, though the light pouring through the roof and the voices echoing from the hallway made it dreadfully clear that he was to be executed again.
"What do you want with me...?" Blaine asked weakly.
"You haven't realized?" the man asked with a chuckle, "Surely by now you've guessed."
"My submission?" he replied, and met his new executioner's cackle with a laugh of his own, "You won't have it."
"Is that so, great General Kedric? What if I were to tell you that your -king, lord, etc...- has already relented?"
"You'd be lying, because he'd be up here instead of me."
The thin man bared his teeth, then kicked the bound man in the side, "You'll learn to surrender soon."
With that, he was carried out to the sight of the people. The process was almost a complete repeat of before, and everything went black. The light reached for him, but he denied it again, hoping to return to the world and show these monsters that he would not relent to their mind games.
"We can keep doing this... we will, until you beg for mercy. That's all that it will take," a very pursuasive female voice told him, "Just a few gentle words and we'll stop calling you back."
"It was my choice to return," he replied, "And I will keep doing so until you relent."
Again, execution, again for fourteen times until he awoke in front of Kyrsh once more. This time he was simply bound at his ankles and wrists before the people. Each time he had been killed, he said less and less, as there was less and less to be said. Kyrsh studied him briefly, and then announced to the people, "We've broken him; his soul has been destroyed, and he has become nothing more than an animal!" He backhanded Blaine hard in the jaw to keep him from speaking. "We will turn him loose, let him wander the world as a living symbol of what is to become of our enemies."
Before the paladin could do anything, his greatest rival sent him into unconsciousness with a strong kick.

Blaine awoke in a forest this time, unbound, unclothed, and unarmed. He made primitive clothing from the forest, and later received better clothing once he reached the nearest friendly temple. There he also learned the news of his people's ultimate defeat; he could not show his face to his people, not like this, and not now.
He fled, seeking strength, seeking courage, seeking a new army with which to crumble -name- for what it had done to his people.

Knowledge (History): (this is assuming that the war was large, though not necessarily near)

15: Blaine Kedric... wasn't that a big name in the war between -country- and -country-?

20: That's the name of one of the most skilled generals in the -country---country- war... He was only defeated when three armies cornered his own.

More knowledge DCs to come...

I decided against statting him out, as I'm pretty sure most of you would prefer to build him yourself to better fit into your campaigns, if you use him at all that is. :P

Hope you enjoy reading, altering, and possibly using this as much as I enjoyed writing it. ^_^
