My city is currently in the grips of a pretty heavy storm, lots of rain and a whooole lot of heavy winds... good times :D

Anyway, i was thinking that a character who could control/or was based around storms would be interesting.

The only prc's ive found that can control the weather are as follows-

Stormlord (CD)
Stormcaster (SW)

Both of them are pretty interesting stat wise, but im more interested in the role playing side of such a character.

What traits do you see such a character having?
Do you think such a character is bound to be evil (as a follower of talos) or do you think there could be a good aligned storm focused character?
What sort of personality traits do you think they would have? Quick and flighty (such as the wind) or stoic and uncaring (to weather the storm/eye of the storm)?

And finally... as seems to be the trend these days. What sort of quotes do you think such a character would use?

Any ideas you can through my way would be appreciated... hopefully the storm im facing IRL wont be too bad :P

Interestingly enough, storms are sacred to Heironeous.

Personality for such a character would probably be as flashy as lightning and as loud as thunder. Fond of overkill, preferring to tackle matters directly. Complete Champion suggests lightning to be the sword of their god touching the earth, wrath of Heaven made manifest. A storm hides nothing, so a storm-focused Heironian follows that example by being plain and indifferent with his honesty. Ever honest, yet with no particular reaction to the fact.

Brilliant! I didnt even think of Heironeous!

And i like the whole honesty approach, it would be good to play a character who is honest, even one that is brutally so :P

Youve outdone yourself again Stormbrand, youve made the belt, its long overdue!

Ive decided that the character will begin as a halfling druid, then head into the stormcaster prc.

Ill have it that he is a lightfoot halfling who is orphaned when a storm destoryed his entire clan. While the character was off taking a wizz (seems ridiculious... which would only add to his shame) the circle of caravans was blasted apart by an lightning storm. He watced as some of his clansmen tried to flee, but their were either struck by other bolts, or killed by flying debriee carried by the near-hurricane force winds.

He wandered for a bit before he was found by a ghostwise halfling druid, who took him in and raised him. The character eventually began training as a druid, though he never forgot the storm that changed his life and his new found studies of nature only increased his interest.

Being raised with ghostwise halflings, he wouldnt not have been able to communicate with them very well due to his lack of telepathy, so he will be something of an outsider. Though this will also give him a very secure sense in who he is, making him very self confident.

Im thinking that his alignment will be chaotic neutral and follow Silvanus.

For some reason, the very idea of a really small guy calling down a storm on a BBEG just seems so cool :P

(Just for a point of interest, ill make it that a cleric of Talos caused the storm that wiped out his clan. When the church of talos learns of the halfling who can control storms, theyll likely recruit him, but eventually he will find out they are at fault... and then all hell will break loose :plotting: )

Halfling druid has a great prestige class that does nicely for the storm theory. An old favorite of mine that has been converted over from 2nd ed is the halfling whistler (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/prc/20061121a).

If I'd gotten here sooner, I would've suggested Stormsinger (FB), although that requires Bardic Music, so you won't be able to get in as a single-class Druid.

Hmm, that halfling whistler looks like an interesting concept, but im more or less looking for a class that is focused on storms as a whole.

Anyone got any wacky or unique personality traits i could give this guy? Little things he does just to set him apart from all the other characters out there?

I want this guy to be rememberable. Ive never played a divine caster before and ive never played a neutral character either... :D

get a pet storm cloud... have it follow you around... worry on cloudless days about where it has run off to... tell others that you fed it once and now it won't leave you alone :P

Have the character continually tell the group about changes in the weather (enough ranks in Survival and you can predict for weeks to come); or, complain when the weather doesn't change, especially when it is sunny.

You could always skimp on ranks in Handle Animal. That way when anyone asks you to "Go calm the Dire Lion" you can complain about stereotyping. But Wild Empathy would still let you communicate animals if needed.

Anytime your DM informs you that a storm is coming, have the character get all anxious. Maybe a bit jittery, and distracted. Dance when it shows up.

If you find anyone else that focuses on a single element that differs from storms- fire, water, plants, etc.- make snide remarks on their inferior choice. Especially if they're wizards.

Comment on architecture around you when in a city. Point out what would happen to certain buildings if a storm just happened to blow through. Laugh about it.

Well, those're my suggestions. Hope they were helpful.

He could carry an iron stick that he plants in the ground (preferably sand) when a lightning storm "starts". If the lightning strikes on the pole he'll have a cool glass 'statue'. He could sell them as art.

Perhaps he has some kind of device to hear the wind blowing (like some chinese kling klang stuff) that he hangs at the window or at his tent so that he's warned when a storm is coming.
