ok so ive got an idea for a story, it centers around a dwarven paladin or knight(name unkown) (possibly part of some secret order) who is the high protector of an elvish king(name unkown) (kingdom unkown) and his family(namely the princess) (name unkown) i was thinking that mabay the king and the main characters father were close friends and thats how the dwarf achieved his position of esteem..anyway i was thinking that prehaps the king falls ill so the queen has to take over in his stead..well upon her father falling ill the adventureous princess takes it apon her self to go after a semi-mythical cure and since the dwarf is her personnal protector..ya know he has no choice but to ya know go with her and well protect..and im thinking that there will be a definite love connection between the two..eventually....
well thats all i have so far umm i really need help with names and ANY plot ideas or qirks or just general comments would be a great help thanx in advance and sorry the post is so long :)

Hi Gimp,

I'm afraid you've been a little too vague for me to be of any actual help. What do you mean by "story"? Are you a DM writing an adventure? Or are you planning on playing one of these characters (the princess or her dwarven protector) or what?

Please let us know what you're trying to accomplish.

ok gingerbread here goes,
what i mean by story is like a novel type of deal..the dwarf is a character that id play in a long- over campaign i just want to change his name and stuff but as far as his personality i want it to stay the same so basically it all revolves around my love for writeing and the type of person this character was..he was so the my life for you princess type of guy..he was so loyal its pathetic and she often took advantage of it (she was a smart-mouth) because she knew he'd come to her rescue..anyway i hope this helps

Sounds like you already have a good idea of the characters in your head. What you need to do is really flush them out of your brain and get them on paper.

First, start with a profile of each character. Write it point form, but feel free to elaborate as much as you feel is comfortable. Get out every detail you can think of, from their deepest, darkest fears, to how they eat their meals. When writing a story, almost every action your characters take is a chance for you to express their individuality.

Also, decide wether the story is going to be about the events or about the characters. Sounds to me like its going to be about the characters. As you plan your storyline, try to take a slow pace. Any scene with interaction between the main characters is going to be interesting and important, even moreso than the action and the metaplot.

Do a lot of brainstorming, and have confidence in your ideas. Be original, and don't be afraid to toss out ideas that simply don't work. Thats my biggest weakness in writing: I get married to an idea, even if it doesn't work in the story, and I try to include it anyway. Try to avoid that if you can. ^_^

Best of luck,
