| Thurd_Earthbreaker01-31-06, 12:36 PM | Thurd Earthbreaker was my best char i ever had. he was a level 20 wizerd lvl 5 archmage worshiper of Io i have a short story as my signature below. |
| Dex02-01-06, 04:31 AM | Sep Taeskloth, Valenar elf. Spellthief 10/Spellcatcher 10 (custom PrC), Played all the way from level 1 to 20. Started out neutral evil, but redeemed to N himself via the parties cleric (another Valenar elf). Among the most astonishing feats he pulled of include: Sneaking into a room, casing it for loot and removing a key to the next section of the dungeon from beneath a table...While two boss dogs (drider cleric and a demon) were sitting at it. Going toe-to-toe with damn close to the entire population of a dungeon alongside the fighter (a warforged) without cleric support in the one room filled with BBEGs, and killing the Biggest-Baddest-Evil-Guy with a last ditch fireball. Frequently dropping a fireball at his feet to kill goons and taking no damage whatsoever (i love evasion :D ). |
| Angelus_the_white_Gnoll02-01-06, 04:51 AM | Angelus. Gnoll. Lawfull good.Level 1 Ranger. (How rubbish does that sound?) Hmm, best things I've done in my short life is to kill a howler...(I think it was a howler with an arrow as it was coming near me. And killing it's master as it was about to kill a teammate.) Not bad I suppose, but the funniest thing was when a half dragon spat acid. He was on my side and thought he could hit the boss, I was in the way and I didn't speak his language so he just spat it anyway. I dodged it with my cool evasion and it hit a wall. What!!!!! If we weren't in a fight I would have kicked his butt. That character is dead now. Killed by a pack of Hyenas...ha, ha. |
| Thurd_Earthbreaker02-01-06, 10:16 AM | Thurd was a hell of a char. one of the many thing's that he did(and should have got killed him) are: we were going up agenst a beefed up balor(lvl10 fighter) during the suprise round I casted molredkins disjuken and destoryed all of his magic items. :OMG! (he rolled a 1 on all his stuff) the on the 1st round i then casted antimagic ray and got all of his spells gone for the day. :w00t: the fighter and the bezerker just mualed his ass all over the pavment. |
| Arcticflare02-01-06, 07:55 PM | Krodoke Silverscale Currently Druid 13, Scaled Horror 4 Krodoke was a lizardfolk druid I started in a third level dungeon. He is now an ECL 20. He has slain many fighter NPCs by dragging them into the water and slaughtering them. Something unusual. I've ruined many climactic battles by casting animal growth on his Fleshraker companion, then having it pounce, crushing the enemy under its considerable weight. I also helped annihalate a pretty nasty vamp by turning into a Giant Octopus, casting air breathing, then latching onto him as our cleric turned him. Here's his (abridged) story: Showed a strong bond with his tribe's crocodile pets. Also more charismatic and cunning than his peers. The tribe's current shaman trained him in the ways of nature and worship of Semuanya. He was sent to a nearby town to improve relations by helping with an undead problem they had. There, he met his new allies. When he returned, he found his tribe all but eliminated by Sahaugin. Enlisting the help of his 'civilized' friends, he took them all out. When it was over, Krodoke found himself the leader of his tribe. After helping fortify the caves, he set off again. To him, he would only find the power necessary to defend his race by adventuring. |
| JulesCARV02-01-06, 09:38 PM | Jean-Paul of Alvegny's story so far. It's nothing epic, but hey, he's still level 2. Jean-Paul of Alvegny is the bastard son of the elven lord Jacques Goreaux. The result of an adulterous relationship between Lord Goreaux and one of the young human maids serving in the castle, Agnes of Alvegny, who died giving birth to him, Jean-Paul was raised by his father in the castle of the town of Alvegny, a town between Wrogar Keep and Daskaran in Aundair. There, he was subjected to cold resentment by Simon Goreaux's wife, Nadine Goreaux, who viewed him as a constant reminder of her husband's infidelity. Jean-Paul also never felt that he measured up to his legitimate, fully-elven half-brother, Guillaume, eleven years his senior. Although Jean-Paul had a strong body and practical mind, these were traits viewed as more suitable for a commoner, while Guillaume was widely praised for his elven grace and quick perception. Jean-Paul began to associate with a disreputable coterie of minor nobles and wealthy bourgeoisie and their sons and daughters, where he could escape the judgmental attitudes of his family. He began to drink heavily. He seduced and abandoned several girls his age (roughly sixteen to nineteen at the time), perhaps seeking to transfer his own resentment and sense of abandonment to others. His time with the coterie also gave him connections to the underworld of Alvegny, and he began to learn various arts of manipulation, poisoning, and other tricks. When Jean-Paul was nineteen, his brother Guillaume was about to enter a jousting tournament, where he was favored to do well, if not win. Jean-Paul decided to play a malicious prank on his half-brother: before the tournament, he slipped a minor poison into Guillaume's breakfast. The poison was not to kill him: just to temporarily make him feel clumsy and disoriented, so that he would botch the tournament. On the first joust, as Jean-Paul expected, Guillaume was thrown from his horse. In addition to losing, however, Guillaume fell clumsily and seriously injured himself at the fall. Guillaume was paralyzed from the waist down, probably for life (though, as of the beginning of this game, a year after the incident, clerics and doctors are still uncertain, and some believe he may walk again, in time). At first, Jean-Paul attributed the unexpectedly serious ramifications of his actions to a minor error: perhaps a slightly higher dose of the poison than he had intended. Over the next month, though, the full horror at his actions, and what he had become overall in his life, sank in. He confessed his crimes to his father, and pledged to abandon his family's castle, and join the templars of the Silver Flame in penetence. He was an aspiring templar of the Silver Flame for about eleven months. Although disciplined and determined to overcome his past, he still has not fully internalized the selfless goodness of the Silver Flame. He was attempting to fight evil and preach the word of the Silver Flame in Korranberg. At one bar, some customers heckled him. Eventually, it went beyond heckling and the they started to threaten him physically. At this point, Jean-Paul attempted to extricate himself from the situation by leaving the bar, but one drunken customer would not accept his retreat and attacked him nonetheless. Enraged, Jean-Paul brutally fought the customer. Even once it was clear that the drunk was beaten, Jean-Paul continued to attack him, intent on teaching a lesson with the maximum pain he could inflict. The customer survived, but it was clear that his injuries went beyond the actions of a man defending himself in a regular barfight. (PC Campaign begins) As it turned out, the customer was a prince in Lhazaar. For mysterious reasons of his own, Solicitor Mylk managed to prevent Jean-Paul's extradition to Lhazaar with a secretive back-room deal. He was summoned by a Warforged to Mylk's offices, along with three other people, all of whom seemed to have legal troubles of their own: Likha, a goblin ninja, Dethilar, a dwarf artificer, and Sel, a mysterious human rogue, unsure of her own history. Mylk sent them to resolve a labor dispute in a mine he claimed he owned in the Seawall mountains. The road was largely uneventful, with the exception of an encounter with some archaelogists, an attack by a sorceror (whose sleep spells mysteriously affected Jean-Paul in spite of his elven blood, because his player and GM forgot to exempt him from the will save), and a giant spider's nighttime attack. They eventually arrived at the mine. An incompetent reconaissance attempt by one of the members of the group, a goblin ninja named Likha, set off the defensive constructs of the mine, Iron Defenders. The party was badly wounded by the battle, but eventually defeated the constructs. At this point, they were aided by a lost Warforged who had been searching for her unit since the end of the Last War. Jean-Paul persisted in believing that the mine was still under the control of Mylk's managers, and believed that the attack of the Iron Defenders was a mishap caused by Likha's suspicious behavior in attempting to sneak into the camp. However, he cooperated with a scheme with Likha and a thief, Sel, to ensure his safety. He hailed the camp, and the party was attacked by shifters. Although the battle was won, Jean-Paul and Likha both lay dying on the ground. At this point, Tira Miron visited Jean-Paul in his unconscious state, pleading with him to release his pride and his selfish quest for personal redemption, purity, and righteousness and let the will of the flame possess him. At first, Jean-Paul resisted, claiming that he was already an exemplar of the ideals that the Silver Flame stood for, but then realized, with shame, that this was precisely what Tira Miron was referring to. He gave up hope of personally redeeming himself through his own righteousness and let the Silver Flame purify him. He was miraculously healed, and temporarily gained the power of laying hands, and healed Likha as well. At this point, they withdrew fom the battlefield. (Also, Jean-Paul went from being an LN "fallen" paladin, without paladin special abilities like smite, detect evil, or aura of good, as he started the game, to being an LG true paladin) The Warforged, Rockslide, lead them to a delapidated house that she discovered about a mile from the camp, where the party camped. The next morning, in an expedition to the mining camp, they found a gnome, Bivrick, still alive and in agony, nailed to the camp's gates. Jean-Paul successfully rescued the gnome, and was able to staunch his bleeding with mundane medical care. In the rescue, Likha saw into the camp and saw two more gnomes imprisoned. The party was also attacked by two other shifters back at their camp in the delapidated house. The party successfully captured and bound one of them. On Bivrick's information, they found an entrance to an abandoned mine in the mountains. They were waylaid by an enchanting clam, and Jean-Paul came close to drowning, but Likha eventually defeated the clam. They went further into the cave, finding a room with the shifter leader, Orum, in it. They surprised Orum. Jean-Paul attempted to grapple the shifter into submission, but the rest of the party used more lethal methods, to which the shifter eventually succumbed, dying defiantly, and refusing Jean-Paul pleas to surrender. The room turned out to have a statue of a dragon head, which Jean-Paul believed to be a statue of Khyber dedicated to the Cult of the Dragon Below. With the leader dead, Jean-Paul hoped to negotiate with the shifter's second-in-command, Grun, and trade the captured shifter and the body of the other shifter and the body of the leader, Orum, for the two imprisoned gnomes, along with a possible amnesty for the lower-ranking shifters in the rebellion who swore never to take up arms again. Likha, however, was reluctant to pursue this option, fearing that a greater plot, involving some sort of trade between the shifters and hobgoblin mercenaries to drive Cyrean refugees out of the valley, would be able to continue in the hands of low-ranking shifters even if Grun were forced to surrender and Orum dead. She sought to uncover the plot and stop it. They once again descended into the caves where they found Orum, and found three Dolgrims, talking anxiously in undercommon. Apparently, something was promised to them which they could not find. The party killed the Dolgrims, and found the dragon head statue open, with a tunnel in its mouth leading to Khyber. They descended down the tunnel. Rockslide tracked the dolgrims to another room, where they set off an alarm and trap, which wounded Sel. Two dolgrims attacked the party from another room, and were defeated, but Jean-Paul was wounded. They continued, and Likha talked to some Goblins in cells, some of whom seemed to be willing slaves of the dolgrims and some of whom seemed to be prisoners. Likha found that there was some sort of chair which charmed those who sat in it into loyalty to the dolgrims. Likha locked the cells on the doors of the loyal goblins, while the doors of cells of the enslaved goblins were opened, though she told them to stay until the chair was found and destroyed. An attempt by Sel, who had discovered she had previously unknown arcane powers, to charm one of the already-charmed goblins into sneaking into the room and destroying the chair failed. The party attacked the "throne room" with the enchanting chair. Although they were successful, in destroying the chair, and the goblins were set free of their enchantment and lead out of the compound, Jean-Paul was mortally wounded and Rockslide was disabled. They successfully repaired Rockslide, and stabilized Jean-Paul, although he did not recover consciousness until the next day, and they were forced to carry him out on a temporary stretcher. |
| Ront Iron-Roar02-02-06, 11:11 AM | Well, here's Ront for ya. Born in Unther on the Lake of Methmere to a Gothog aGrey Orc Warlord and a human captive. Ront was brought into the harsh life of orc parenting. The only two people that kept him from being slaughter by his kinsman were his Father Gothog who more or less kept his barely fed and clothed and his Vicious Grandmother Duevegga, the tribes Shaman and link to Gruumsh. Gothog, tried getting his mother to teach the boy to be a Shaman as well but the zealous Duevegga turned the boy into her servant and took the liberaty of punishing him for anything she could think of. Ront still possessed scars from those days. Though out his young life he was proud, afraid, and jealous of his father and his brothers all of which were Great Warriors in his tribe. Though, one night when the tribe was celebrating its recent raid on a town all would change for the half-orc child. Fueled with vengeance against those who caused destruction of everything he loved. Daelric Apotho, a human weapon master and devotee to Tempus attacked the tribe. Through use of his skills as a swordsman, his Sunblade, and sheer luck he decimated the tribe. He saved Ront from the savagries of one of his step-mothers savagries as well as a life with his people. But, even then life continued to be difficult for the boy. Despite his human blood Daelric still made it hard on the boy even when he took him under his wing. Hatred for orc kind was not easily quelled and thus while the boy was taught to use the sword there was by no means anything easy. But, despite this training the boy still grew fond of his saviour as he grew stronger and more mature. He had been taught to use a bastard sword and in the hands of his orcish strength the blade proved to be quite fitting. As well he learned of the teachings of the Lord of Battles and his God Tempus. His training continued till he was 15 years and he was abandoned one morning. The fighter deciding it was time to leave the boy to his new teacher...life. Ront felt abandonment for the first time in his life. He had been taught to make his living in the wilds and thus he traveled for days through the inhospitable terrain till he found himself on the shores of Methmere once more. He soon discovered a band of pirates who had set up base upon the shores. Seeing the muscle such a person as the Half-orc would bring they soon welcomed Ront into their group. Having no knowledge or ethics he was easily manipulated and soon branded as an outlaw. Months passed and Ront began to question the acts of the pirates either raiding merchants or going on land to attack caravans that stopped by the lake. It was no surprise when Mulhuroundi soldiers disguised as merchants caught the pirates by surprise and forced them to retreat leaving Ront stranded with no means of escape. He felt abandonment for the second time in his life as he hauled away in chains and was put into slavery soon after. Years passed as Ront found himself in the ownership of a saltmine. Muscles hone from years of practice with Daelric and fighting were now used to tear asunder salt rocks with picks and hammers. But, the use of a slave was easily bought and turned into another. A female sorceress employed to the Westgate arena bought the Half-orc and taught him how to fight for the crowds. The Half-orc who had just began learning about the evils of the world learned of another in the bowels of the arena were gambling and bloodsport were life. He fought and he fought and he fought. The arena became home and despite whatever odds they threw at him the Half-orc prevailed. When he was in his quarters he learned to read and write. As well his martial skill with his weapon of choice was best used he learned, in only one of his strong arms. He took up the use of a shield and turned into into a lethal weapon soon after. The crowds roar became his own as he awaited the next challenge Tempus set before him. But, constant wins soon brought disfavor to the arena leaders and in a set match to bring new blood to the arena Ront had found his first taste of what magic could do. He found his immense strength weighed down by the pull of a paralyzing spell against the Halfling fighter Deegan. The halfling recognizing the use of magic soon realized that his opponent was not at his best as he stood there frozen in the middle of the arena. The diminutive man called the fight off and exposed the vile tricks. The halfing gained the respect of the Half-Orc soon after. Both had found their way into being gladiators through the more sinister aspects of society. Deegan owed a debt he could not repay in Calimshan and was thus made to fight to earn back what he owed. His prowess became so good with the a shorsword and shield that he found himself shipped to Westgate for greater spoils. But, despite the first bonds of Friendship they were scheduled to fight again. In the fight both were unhindered both able to fight at their fullest. The swift and quick Deegan landing many reluctant blows upon the half-orc landing even further scars to mark the battle record that was his flesh with the deadly use of his unique two-weapon fighting style. But, the fight ended with Ront severing the Halflings left leg in a last desperate move. The halfling unable to fight and Ront bleeding from many wounds ended as a draw. Both where healed but the Halfling missing a leg could never fight again. But, even then that climatic fight had earned him his freedom and he stayed there to watch over Ront and train him. This was where the Half-orc learned to use his Spiked shield and Bastard Sword in the unusual sword/shield style of two-weapon fighting. Ront an estabolished crowd favorite found himself facing a newer and more exotic opponents. Ront soon encountered the Banite Monk, Kassur. The monk sundered Ront's blade leaving him to fight the Monk/ Cleric's lethal strikes with his bare hand and a spiked shield. Ront was soon defeated finding himself near death once more. For the last time he would be treated to the hospitality of the arena before he was released in the dark of the night. He said good bye to Deegan and left the East and headed West to make a new life for himself. Afters months of working as a guard for caravans he found himself in Luskan. But, a confrontation that errupted with a racist customer he soon landed himself in the Luskan Jail. But, once more his breeding would play a role in Luskan. He found himself brought into the numbers of the Goalers. A multitude of half-orcs and ogre blooded humans that directed the tortures and interrogation of prisoners. Ront found him tormented by his ethics as he forced to bring suffering upon each soul that came to live in those cells. He witnessed the corrupt Prisoner's Carnival of Luskan where the crowds had their turn to torture criminals. But, upon encounter a half-chultan rogue named Rel Kasaga. Both men escaped together into the wilds of the Spine of the world. But, the duo soon found themselves at odds when the theif revealed he wasn't completely innocent of his crimes and enraged Ront chased the half-chultan off. Soon Ront's travels brought him to Icewind Dale where in Ten-towns he soon met a young fair-haired barbarian lad named Kiev. The two became drinking buddies for one night at least until a fight broke out with a group of Guardsmen. The barbarian and the orcish fighter soon became brother's in arm and the two quelled the confrontation along with the aid of a Human Sorceror named Xavier. It was soon revealed the Guards were under the sway of an even greater spellcaster. The man using the weak-willed guards to test the three men before he bought them into his service. The mysterios arcanist soon sent the trio onto Waterdeep. Along the way they encountered hill giant raiders and mobs of goblins. But, in the end they soon found themselves in Waterdeep and then aboard a ship headed for a small unknown island to find an artifact. Upon the island and inside the ruins the trio found themselves in combat with hordes of undead and conjured beasts from the planes. Among them was a Barbed devil entrapped within the very artifact they seeked to find armed with a lethally enchanted greatsword. Returning to the relieved crew of their boat they made their trip back to Waterdeep. The mysterious Arcanist was exalted to meet them once again. But, upon seeing the Greatsword and learning of the banishment of the Barbed devil he attacked. Reducing the inn's bar first floor to charred ruins when Xavier and the arcanist exchanged spells. But, alas the Arcanish escaped. Xavier would part soon after finding the Ront and Kiev a hindrance for his studies into the artifact. So Ront and Kiev wandered the Sword Coast eventually finding themselves back in Icewind Dale. The half-orc taught Kiev of Tempus through out his journey bolstering the Barbarians faith in the Lord of battles in more then just calling out his name or singing a battle hymn. Years passed as Ront helped Kiev become a man in his peoples eyes. Shattering orc hordes and revealing treachery among the tribes of the North. But, soon they found the call of old foes coming to them in their dreams from across the planes. Ront, Kiev, and Xavier soon found themselves together again as they explored the ruins an abandoned mine. They were beset once more by outsiders conjured by the Barbed Devils from the Nine hells. In the ruins they found a Portal to their old foes both the Barbed Devil and his brother who turned out to be the mysterious Arcanist. Both devils had improved their skills and their arsenals and the battle that ensued within the jagged iron fortress they had constructed ended with the death of one Hamatula and the entrapment of the arcanists soul inside the very Blade he yearned to possesse once again. With the power of the Hamatula's gone the fortress collapsed and the dweomer that had compelled them to the Nine Hells had sundered and soon sent the heroes tumbling through the planes. The Sorceror saving himself through use of spells found himself back at his study. But, Ront and Kiev found themselves stranded in the wastes of the High Ice, thier bodies wracked by their experience and their weapons and armor augmented strangly by the deterioration of the dweomer that brought them to their last battle. When they would have died in the snow they were saved by the fiery magic of his awakened sword. The snow melted about them as the traversed through the waste. The fire magic warming their bodies as they endured the elements and the savagry of fell beasts. But, the fiery dweomer did little to keep the two from suffering from empty bellies. Starvation had them resorting to eating everything the killed. So when they encountered a Herd of Roth'e they slaughter the beasts and feasted. They soon regretted thier actions as it turned out that a clan of Frost Giants fed upon the herd. Like the Ice dwarves they had stolen the homes from the Giants used Ront and Kiev as servants. The blessing of wild magic saved them when their icey shackles shattered when their dweomer faded. However, this caused the dweomer of Kiev's sword to fade and it is destroyed. Freeing the soul within it.They took up arms and liberated the dwarves in a rebellion against the Frost Giants. They fought the Frost Giants higher and higher into the glacier till finally the Jarl of the Frostgiants was left with his elite bodyguard. The glacier they fought upon bordered the Sea of Moving Ice and as they fought the Jarl found himself close to the edge. The giants weight soon caused the ice to break causing his body guards whose wounds caused their strength to weign to tumble down to the icey waters below. The jarl however managed to keep his balanced and saved himself from the fall. Cornered he fought with ferocity. Each blow fueled with desperation a tactic that had knocked Ront to the ground and pinned under the boot of the roaring giant. It was then the Kiev barreled into the giant sicking his blade deep into its belly tumbled over the edge along with the Jarl into the Sea of Moving Ice. When Ront summoned the strength to get back he realized the loss of his friend. As the ice dwarves gathered around he wept and then muttered a prayer for his fallen friend. The dwarves healed him and helped him on his way back to civilization. Ront once more found himself in the west of Faerun. But, after traversing the wastes of Anauroch he found himself in the forests of Cormanthor. Having been raised in the deserts and then taught to live in the tundra of the North the forests and its creatures were new and exotic to him. But, the cold of winter soon had him looking for shelter. While camping in the woods he encountered a curious Silver she-wolf. Ront not fearing the beast offered it some food and a warm fire. The she-wolf soon became a companion to Ront. Often coming to him in the mornings with a fresh kill for him to eat. The wolf later revealed herself to be the Lythari Mori. Ront having little experience with Lycanthropes was frightened and even more so amazed by the beauty of the elf.(After all she was naked.) But, soon remembering that this elf was the wolf that had helped him their companionship resumed. During the winter dire creature came to assault them in the wood. A pack of dire boar lead by a Razor Boar attacked them scenting the blood from a wound Ront suffered from an attack by Murderjacks the night before. Ront lost his shield to the Vorpal tusks of the Razor Boar lessening his arsenal down to a dwarven breastplate and his fiery sword. Ront grew to respect Mori for her skill in fighting and Mori did like wise. It was no surprising when week later the two became lovers one cold winter night in Mori's den. But, their happiness was soon cut short when a female green dragon and her brood made a dwelling in the Forest during the spring. Ront and Mori first encountered the wyrm's ravenous brood while walking along a stream. Ront ended and Mori ended up killing the young dragons and thus gained the wrath of the mother green. Having no place to go within the Forest the couple soon found themselves dissapearing into abandoned dwarven mines of the nearby mountains. There Ront and Mori made their dwelling once more with Mori venturing out as a wolf and bringing home food. While Ront secured their new home. Ront and Mori delved deeper into the mines encountered collapsing tunnels, displacer beasts, and a lone roper. But, they would soon find that the mine was still active. A tribe of orcs subjegated by a band of Orogs was busily minding the adamantine and iron the mine had to offer. A breif skirmish with orc miners soon led to the capture of Ront. Mori on the other hand escaped but the elven werewolf would not abandon her half-orc lover. Sneaking into the mine she to was captured but the Orogs and specifically their leader. A Powerful witchdoctor named Zruk allowed her to go to Ront. She found her lover at the bottom of a pit. Clad only in a pair of trousers and forced to fight the Tannaruk leader of the Orc tribe bare handed. Mori soon went to the aid of the half-orc and both in a combined effort killed the fiendish orc. The death of the leader caused confusion and outrage among the orcs and they soon rebelled against their Orog Master. The bedlam allowed Ront and Mori to escape though the half-orc never recovered his weaponry so he was left with an adamantine spear. Now, forced to flee for their lives from the mountains and the Forest the couple run to Shadowdale. Along the way while the two sleep in their camp they are attacked by a drow raiding party. Mori being an elf is captured and Ront after killing several drow is knocked out after several darts laced with drow knock out poison bring him down. The drow assume the half-orc in his camotose state is dead and the pillage his body. Ront is left with only a pack and his clothes. Several hours later, groggy and aching Ront awakes to find his lover gone along with the drow. Enraged he soon tracks the raiding party back to their cave where through the use of thrown stones and then with a improvised flail made of rocks, a mithril cube, and his back pack he leads a one man assault against the drow. His orcish strength and his berserk rage crushing drow skull left and right. But, Ront is out numbered and his skill as a combatant once more lands him as a candidate for an arena. While Ront and Mori are chained to the ground the couple strain to be in one another's arms. But, it is impossible neither of their chains allow them to go far enough to touch one another. Ront even with his strength couldn't even sunder the chains. But, when two drow attempt to have their way with Mori, Ront sunders his chains and beat them to death with the remnants of his bondage. He takes the key from the drow and frees Mori both of them escape from their captivity. Then fueled by the full moon Mori takes her vengeance upon her drow captors along side her lover. The two escape and Ront and Mori go to Shadow Dale. There after both are healed by a Priest of Mysta Ront learns Mori is pregnant with his child. Soon after this they get prepared and go to leave. Traveling along with caravan after caravan. Defending the caravan against the attacks of a clan of hill giants and then a few raids from Hobgoblins. But, after weeks of travel the two lovers find themselves at the gates of Waterdeep. There they meet the stares of dozens of surprised and amazed citizens as they make their way to the home of Mori's daughter Isto.(Mori, being an elf had alot of children from various lovers). Her daughter turns out, owned a Bordello and such and after an akward meeting with Mori's free spirited daughter. Ront and Mori settled in for the night. The next morning they go out hunting for a home and they find one. A old elf from Evermeet an art collector was renting his home out and with the cash they had. Mori got them set up with a house while Ront stayed back and looked on. Ront and Mori get settled down. Mori making jewelry and Ront working as a Dock hand. Needless, to say the half-orc fighter grows restless. Going out to a quiet place in the city and training himself every day after work. Weeks pass by letting the citizens outrage smolder, but, it only heightened the flames of the elven community. So one day, when Ront returns home after Mori retrieves him from a park, they find that their front door has the word "BEWARE" written on their door in pig's blood. Ront is anger by this, but quickly calms himself as they ignore it and head in for the meal that Mori had prepared. But, once more they end up suffering more racial strife when a gang of half-elves toss a brick through their window ruining Mori's dinner and unnerving the Lythari. Ront picks up the brick and immediately heads outside to confront the gang. But, they are nowhere to be seen. Ront crushes the brick in his hand and storm back inside. After comforting Mori they head to bed and the next morning they go about their business. However, the next night they are startled by the sounds of battle outside their front door. Ront takes his sword and runs outside to find the gang of Half-elves being beaten badly by a pair of elven fighters. Isto and then a elven ranger who is later discovered to be Mori's son Tanthalanidil. Ront ends the skirmish with the use of Kai shout illustrated with the word"TEMPUS" as he smashes his bastard sword down through the cobblestone. The half-elves run away and Mori goes to greet her children. Though, Tanthalanidil shows his disgust and hatred through Ront in the introduction. The elven ranger had a hatred for orcs, having seen the carnage of what a tribe or orcs had done to a settlement of moon elves. So Mori's two children stay with their mother and Ront standing guard for the night. In the morning everything is carried out the same as it had been before and it continues for several more days. Until one day, a doppleganger sent by the freed and vengeful Hatamatula brother come into play. The doppleganger taking advantage of the racial strife and the hatred of Tanthalanidil, take the form of Ront. The imposter heads into the home of the two lovers. Mori her work done from home is surprised to find Ront coming home so early. But, after talking for a while Mori soon discovers the half-orc before her wasn't Ront. The situation soon erupts in violence. With the Doppleganger poisoning Mori and leaving her for dead. Tanthalanidil, coming to check on his mother sees Ront running from the home with a bloody dagger in hand. The ranger expecting the worst rushes to fight the imposter believing it to be Ront. The doppleganger ends up using its shapechange ability to increase its strength and ends up fighting the elven ranger. But, the fight ends with a slam to the face of the ranger and the doppleganger escapes from the now unconscious elf. Hours later Ront returns home finding Isto and an awakened and enraged Tathalanidil kneeling and weaping over the body of Mori. But, before Ront can find out what happened he's is attacked by Tathalanidil. Ront unarmed is forced to retreat from the blade of the ranger. A chase insues with Ront eluding the ranger by confusing the elven ranger with the unfamiliar surroundings of swarming crowds in the end. A confused Ront, heads to the docks where the scum of the city dwell. Ront rents a room at an inn to let the heat die down. So when he sleeps, he has a dream or Mori, his wife being raped and killed by the Hatamatula. In the dream, the devil speaks to him and the location of where the devil wants Ront to go is revealed. The words “Undermountain” echoe in his mind when he wakes up. Ront, now on a mission to confront the outsider for the last time. Meanwhile, Mori who hadn’t died awakens suffering from the effects of the poison that is slowly deteriorating her health. She immediately asks for her lover, but, Isto informs her that he is gone and that Tathalanidil is hunting him for what he did. But, the truth is revealed with Mori talking about the imposter and how she knew it wasn’t Ront. Isto, unable to stop her brother goes to find and warn Ront. Taking his weaponry with her. Using her links from less legal clients she goes to Ront. At the same time her brother finds the half-orc as well. So the elven woman is unable to tell Ront what had happened, dropping his gear to intervene in the fight allowing Ront to escape with his weaponry. So the two siblings fight, but it ends with Tathalanidil giving up because he couldn’t kill his own sister. Ront having escaped and immediately went to the Yawning Portal to enter Undermountain. Tathalanidil would still pursue the half-orc calling upon the aid of a dog to track the half-orc by scent. The two end up squaring off down in the depths of Undermountain, at the portal to the chosen grounds of the Hatamatula, the ranger following the dead bodies of goblins and other beasts that had been slaughtered by Ront. But, their fight is ended with the a beholder joining in the fight. The two combatants unable to defend themselves against the attacks alone team up. Ront distracts the beholder ending up with his shield disintigrated and sections of his armor turned to stone, while the elf using a bow shoots out the central eye of the beholder and peppers it with arrows. Ront finishes the job by hacking the beast down with his sword. Isto arrives shortly after, this time she is able to intervene fast enough. Ront then fills them in with his own information, so the elves and Ront venture into the portal. (More to be posted later.) Right now Ront is a 18th level fighter/ 3rd level Half-orc paragon. His stats are as listed. STR 26 DEX 18 CON 17 INT 14 WIS 16 CHA 14 His feats are as listed. Two-weapon fighting. Endurance. Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Bastard Sword). Die Hard Improved Shield Bash. Improved Two-weapon Fighting. Kai Shout. Weapon Focus(Bastard Sword). Greater Weapon Focus (Bastard Sword). Weapon Specialization (Bastard Sword). Greater Weapon Specialization (Bastard Sword). (Like how orcs are in the R.A books.) |
| Shaggy_Shaggs02-02-06, 03:18 PM | I'm too torn to pick a "best" character of my own. Perhaps I'll come to a decision later. In the meantime, nice story there Ront, I was on the edge of my seat every hour of it. :P Seriously, despite the hugeness of the post it's cool, I'd been rather curious about the character since the first time I noticed the nice quote from him in your sig. And it makes me feel a bit better about my berserker who's given up carrying weapons entirely, since he can never keep one for long anyway. :D Ahh well, the gods granted fists and teeth and claws and conveniently placed trees for a reason, I guess. |
| Arcticflare02-02-06, 05:48 PM | I see we're taking off the kiddie gloves. Give me a few days to dig up Krodoke's full story, then I'll be back. Also, Shaggy: I spent a good five minutes to get to the bottom of your sig. The least you could have done was put in a cookie. |
| WhrenKehrsyn02-02-06, 06:15 PM | My favorite of my characters is Whren Kehrsyn. Rather than repost everything about her here Ill just link you to the thread I made Whren (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=562115) |
| Bard-of-all-trades02-02-06, 06:33 PM | there was a young halfling boy. He was the son of a lumberjack from a long line of lumberjacks. And one day, the young boy was given the very axe his father gave him which his father was given and his father before him and his father before that (stout are very particular about family heritage you know). That axe saved his life starting that night. His family was attacked by wolves who had a purpose and a mission. They were sent by a crazed druid bent on destroying anyone who tampered with "his" forest. It was this first adventure that our young stout got his nickname "Fainter". And from these humble beginnings, is the start of the epic life-time of Valdamaar "Fainter" O'Dull later to take the name Gravelchewer. Yes Val had quite the storied life indeed. He was the scout of the party (before they had Scouts), he was the tracker and vanguard. His small stature allowed others to fight over him without penalty. He was an aspiring bard and an experienced story-teller. He was cordial and sociable with everyone he encountered, unfortunately this often included the enemy from time to time. His reputation grew as did his belly. He became enamored with a devilishly handsome dwarven young woman. The ale goggles didn't help as he escorted her back to her place. Let's just say that this lead to the great and glorious (double crossbow) wedding between Val and Helga Gravelchewer, the daughter to the exiled dwarven prince. And what a wedding it was. Royalty from far and wide either showed up or sent prominent emissaries to this auspicious occasion. And so Val and Helga traveled the countryside in the name of justice. One of his adventuring partners paid him a visit. He brought strange tails of new abilities and a promise of new adventure. For this gangly young elf he had traveled with all those years was actually a ghaele eladrin dedicated to the protection against the intrusions of evil. And so, Val and Helga traveled to a dimension where the demons and devils had chosen to fight over in their centuries old blood feud. There he became a Protector of the Realm. His mission is to stymie both sides to a stalemate that neither side wins; for if one side or the other wins, everything left on this world goes to the victors, souls and all. Game mechanics: Fainter started off as a stout fighter/thief. He had Str 18, Int 9, Wis 8, Dex 17, Con 16, Cha 7. My DM rolled 4d6 dropping the lowest for the stats and then allowed a 2 for 1 swap to change stats as we'd like, thus the goofed up numbers. Also he was made in First Edition where stout halflings could get an 18 Strength and multiclassed. He got the nickname of Fainter when an inexperienced DM put Val against a pack of werewolves controlled by a vampire at 1st-level without any magic items in the entire party. He'd "hit" and the DM would describe a gory scene of blood and guts suddenly closing before our eyes. I expressed my disbelief and finally said that he fainted. From that time on the other DM's would make me roll a Con check to see if I stayed conscious whenever Val attacked with his family heirloom. He continued to be Fainter until he joined a band of adventurers which travelled to the heart of the realm. Here he became Valdamaar O'Dull (aka Fainter O'Dull) when he was to introduce himself to those of royal birth. Then when everything hit the fan with the double crossbow wedding, he became Valdamaar Gravelchewer (because "No daughter of mine is going to take the name of a halfling, even if he is a stout!"). And then 3E came along. To stick with the whole theme of Val being the party tracker, a shift in the space/time continuum took place and he became a Ranger/Rogue. And not only that, but at the behest of his former adventurer, the ghaele eladrin, he was granted the half-celestial template by his deity. Val is currently an Epic level stout halfling "Protector of the Realm" Outsider (native) Ranger 14/ Rogue 8. And I'm not quite sure he's ready to hang up his boots for retirement just quite yet ... |

| Bazcasta02-02-06, 11:39 PM | Aramil He was an alcoholic elf priest of Oghma. His main goal was to rais enough money to eventually open a tavern in Waterdeep. He ended up dying in a simple encounter against a couple shadows. Then he turned into a shadow and was killed by the party, who then forgot to take his body for burial. |
| Bazcasta02-02-06, 11:53 PM | no that was a funny sig... I got a good laugh from it |

| Arcticflare02-04-06, 09:44 AM | Sir Shagsalot- THE LINK DIDN'T WORK!!! Alright, here's my first draft for Krodoke. I'll edit it later. Krodoke was born a healthy male lizardfolk in Shadowfang Swamp. Although his egg had seemed healthy enough, he appeared to be an albino when born. As he aged, however, he scales darkened, and his eyes shifted from light pink to yellow. Because his color stood out in the underbrush, Krodoke didn't make a good hunter. Because gaurding the caves and preparing the meals were the elders' jobs, Krodoke found himself with little to do. Feeling a little excluded from his tribe, he spent quite some time feeding their pet crocodiles. When he was about twelve, he made his first accomplishment. While in the crocodile pits one day, he noticed a shiny patch of stone at the bottom of the pool. Diving down, he managed to haul it to the surface. The shaman identified it as mithral ore, and Krodoke was praised for his discovery. He began spending more time in the pit, looking for another deposit of the valuable metal. Although Krodoke didn't think anything of it, he was better with the tribe's pets than anyone else. After a few years, they didn't even react as he stepped through the iron gate. The current druid noticed this and was greatly impressed. He took Krodoke as an apprentice, and put him in charge of all duties dealing with the crocodiles. Krodoke was in his twentieth year, and his scales had seemed to settle at a light gray, almost silver color. Despite being a few inches shorter than the others, he was impressively muscled, as well as being the most charismatic and cunning. He had just been taught Druidic, and was entrusted with the care of one of the crocodiles. Because, to the lizardfolk, he was such a diplomat, he was sent to the neighboring town to improve relations. They asked him to eliminate a goblin problem with a few warriors they had mustered. It was easily done. While on this mission, he realized that, by doing these minor tasks, he was improving the town's perception of his kind. For that reason, he agreed to more. Krodoke's first challenging mission was to investigate the dark chants and foul stenches coming from an abandoned fort to the west. His comrade on this mission was an elven mage named Quarion. They barely defeated a horde of skeletons before they recklessly barged into the next room. A pale elven maiden stood waiting. Before she could utter a spell, Krodoke drove his spear through her eye. The inexperienced warriors didn't know to make sure she was dead. They merely looted the tower and returned to town. In town, Krodoke received a message from a raven. It warned him that the tribe was under siege by sahaugin. Enraged, Krodoke forced the elf to accompany him and raced home. Things were as bad as they sounded. The caves were overrun, and from the looks of things, only the young and old were alive. In his usual rash style, Krodoke charged in. The elf reluctantly followed. However, they were outnumbered and soon found themselves cornered. In a last, desparate act of rebellion, he hurled his spear. Although it soared over the heads of the sahaugin it was meant to slay, a harsh hiss echoed through the cavern. An idea clicked on. Krodoke asked the elf for one last fireball. As the sahaugin scrambled, he dashed through, and pulled off the bolt on the gate to the crocodile pit. Three normal crocodile quickly swam out and mauled those trying to escape. Those that thought they would be safe on the beach were confronted with the tribe's pride and joy, a massive (giant, actually) monster of a lizard. As the remainder of the sahaugin met a bloody demise, one of the tribe's elders approached. "Krodoke, you have returned. You have slain our foes. You have proven yourself worthy, ornmolik. You are our new chief." Krodoke made some adjustments to the tribes defenses for a week. He spent another three starting the process that would repopulate the caves ;) . Then he left again. He had changed. Gone was the rash young warrior. In it's place, the calculating, cunning slayer had emerged. Krodoke had come to one realization. There was no way his people could be truly safe if he remained static. He would have to actively grow stronger. He would need to seek out challenges and ways to augment his strengths. He began adventuring with Quarion. |
| Shaggy_Shaggs02-04-06, 11:43 AM | Sir Shagsalot- THE LINK DIDN'T WORK!!! Yes it did. Hmmm, Krodoke is still pretty young yet, seems like. Sounds like he has a lot of potential though. Cool. |
| Kinkyjutsu02-04-06, 01:55 PM | Jack Mustang- level 2 commoner/ died from a pickaxe to the head. He was my favorite... always announced himself before a fight "Why i'm Jack.. Jack Mustang." |
| beat_takeshi02-04-06, 02:09 PM | Gogo Thunder female half ork barbarian Many various battles won and an obscene amount of gold gained then converted into magic weapons by a helpful elf wizard ally -otherwise completely outshined by my power attack. One sorrowful day though at 9th level half my magic items were stripped by a terrible spell after the encounter was finished in rebellion against the cruel gods (i.e. putting my DM back in his place) and with the knowledge that her mission to save her scattered tribe had failed ( or as I explained it she obviously couldn't protect them if she had no way to defend even herself in this cruelly overpowered world ) she want into a suicidal combat with a superpowered dark cleric. Although my truly favourite character is always the one I have at the moment. |
| Chrono Nexus02-04-06, 06:36 PM | Ixen, an ecl 8 wyrmling brass dragon with one level of barbarian. He single handedly defeated a twentieth level wizard in fair combat. I kept the base creature's ability scores, and the HD. The DM did not simply hand it to me either. I had to employ the most annoying, cheapest tactics imaginable. The end of the fight looked like this... You are standing in your hometown when you feel the ground shake. There is a blinding flash, then you can see BIG sword sticking out of the ground a few miles away. I'll let your imaginations fill in that fight... |
| Aminar02-05-06, 01:37 PM | Visaj, at the end of the campaign he was ninth level, but our characters set up a scheme on the final day where we achieved Demigodhood after several years.(The joys of intimidating a town into believing your gods.) He was an Albino Psychic Warrior Ninja, with a Scythe. He looked like this, http://www.solisearch.net/ims/pic.php?u=32220BvEV3&i=264698. He was quite simply fun to play. Mainly for the huge amounts of succesful Bluffing, Being very similar to a Jedi, and the way he rolled reflex saves. In a string of 20(Avoiding a whole bunch of DC 21 traps) I failed one, and rolled 5 nat 20's. |
| Thurd_Earthbreaker02-05-06, 01:45 PM | OK here the story of Thurd Earthbreaker. Thurd was born into a simple life in a town called morath. It was a commoner’s town just 10 miles north of maul port. He grew to be a healthy lad, but his parents started to see that he had a great ability to learn faster then a normal Human could. His father, who was a spell caster saw this as an importunate to teach his son in the arcane way. He learned at a fast rate and was able to cast small low level spells. When Thurd was six years old he was walking home when he came a cross a large group of children. “Ha ha you a scaly face”. ”Your mom slept with a dragon”. They were all making fun of this small child, Who had a face and skin of a wonderful prismatic color Thurd feeling sorry for him cast a spell That cased the sound of a ghost sounds and scared the kids away. He walk up to the child and Said ”you Ok?”. The child put his hands up to his face “don’t hurt me” he cried. I’m not going to hurt you. Thurd help him up and brought him home. Seeing that this child was covered in burse and cut his mother was scared to see what happen. Thurd told her what happen and looked down at the child. “My name is Thurd, what’s your?” The child smiled and said “My name is Io” and from then on the Two were best friends. Io and Thurd played and had fun. Io would go with Thurd and play games. Thurd would go to Io House and they would have the best tartpie there was. One day Thurd went to Io house and Saw a tall man that he never saw before. Io run up and said “Dad, Your home!” and gave him A hug. Thurd whet up and said “you don’t look like a dragon” he just smiled and said, “This is how I have to travel”. When Thurd became 10 his father sent him to the academy in Twilight city. He was sad to leave his home behind. But eight years later he came back home to see his family and his old friend. He saw that Io grew to seeing that he grew wings and a tail. The two were happy to see each other again. They live out there lives out until three years later when the two were coming home form maul port. There home was destroyed. In the fire and ash, they saw a large black figurer standing upon the ash and death right before it flew off in to the sky. Thurd had nothing to say but Io let out a massive Cry to the gods. They headed south in the direction that it flew in. The two now search for the thing that ruined their life. To continue.... |
| Kuraito02-05-06, 06:49 PM | Hm....best character I ever had. Tough one. I think i'm gonna go with my favorite though. Fenix Niato. Male, 115, Elf Wizard (Force Specialist). Fenix has the WORST relationship problems I have EVER seen. He was orphaned at around 30. A family freind, a powerful, though surprisingly young wizard (Sienna, 215, Female Elf Wizard 15+) took him in. She was a teacher at a Wizard School, and once Fenixs potential in this area was discovered, he was enrolled free of charge. But, poor Fenix had a terrible secret. He was in love with the woman who had took him in. He had had a crush on her before she took him in and after, it just got worse. He knew he could never tell her how he felt, he was just a charge to her, maybe a little brother at best, but it was maddening to be so close to her. So, one night, he gathered his things and set out. He knew Sienna would panic and look for him, so as he left, he stole an Amulet of Anti-Scrying(New DM item, just for me). But thats not the end of his woes.... His Arch-Enemy, a student of one of Siennas old adventurering buddys, Belladonna Senix (Female, 117, Sorcerer, DROW!). Belladonna was once his childhood freind, but that all went down the drain when Belladonna decided to play "Sacrifice to Lolith" and tied Fenix to a rock and meneced him with a Dagger. Fenix managed to get loose, but from then on he was warry of her. Belladonna however, soon become obsessed with Fenix. She fell in "love" with him (Which, for a drow, means she wishes to capture him, chain him to a wall, break him, make him her slave for ever and ever so she can do kinky things to him). Belladonna however, is willing to do ANYTHING to accomplish this though, so for the entire campaign, she was a general nuisance to the party, especially since Belladonna wouldn't kill Fenix, and Fenix wouldn't let anyone kill Belladonna. Fenixs life is an endless stream of foiling Belladona, Dodging Sienna (Who at this point is looking frantically for him and if she ever finds him, hes gonna eat a Non-Leathal Fireball) and trying to become stronger, because he hopes that if he can become stronger then Sienna, maybe she'll see him as a man and FINALLY he can atleast tell her how he feels. |
| cat_god02-05-06, 09:05 PM | Arian. The level 8 sorceror aspiring to become an archmage. She started off at level 7, and her history is kinda short. But, here it is: Arian was born in the northern reaches of Toril, around Baldur's Gate. She was inherently magical, but was afraid to come forward and proclaim it to her parents. So, in secret, she practiced, which led to a lack of flashy, AoE spells. That's pretty much it. Her accomplishments, though... Sinking a pirate ship. With an acid arrow. Or three. Killing a young green dragon by throwing a fireball (given by the DM after the pirate ship incident. The rest of the group was bugged by the fact that I had no AoE spells.) into its mouth. |
| Darkwolf_childe02-06-06, 01:08 AM | I think the best character concept I came up with was Kelect Maringgrove. Kelect was a lawful good cleric of Kord god of Strength. Kelect made it his life quest to avenge his mother and save her from herself. You see, Kelect's mother was a paladin devoted to Heronius. She attempted to defend a remote mountain temple from an orc horde but was overpowered by the orc chieftain who took her as his prize. Months later she escaped the horde and managed to make it to a temple devoted to Kord. It was learned there that she carried the unborn child of the chieftain. Being devoted to righteousness; she accepted the pregnancy and bore the child, but when she beheld the offspring she wept bitter tears. That night she stole into the 'nursery' with a dagger; intent to take the life of the child that had been forced upon her body. One of the priests discovered her and stopped the act. Having performed a deed of evil in the attempt to murder her baby; her god turned his face from her. She left the temple that very night and turned her back on the principles that had once guided her life. If her god could have allowed a faithful follower to suffer so much and not intervene then she was the betrayed, not the betrayer. She became the antithesis of all Heronious stood for; a blackguard. The priests accepted the bastard child and named him Kelect, meaning 'unwanted'. He grew strong and was blessed with unusual intelligence for a half-orc. He learned of his mother's story on his 16th birthday. At that time he decided to quest for her redemtion. To return his mother to righteousness, he sought out the captured pieces of her holy armor, and her blessed sword and shield. He tracked the orc-horde and defeated the chieftain, his own father and took his head. Now, he searches for his mother. It is his hope that he will be able to redeem her and brings her armor and weapons with him in the hopes that she will remember herself and her true calling. It is his hope she will find it in her heart to love him after all the years that have past. :( |
| b3jsd73jfx02-06-06, 02:37 AM | Keito Levels: Rogue 3, Fighter 2, ShadowDancer 2, Assassin 2 Keito was Chaotic Evil in a party of characters who were Lawful Good -> Chaotic Good. The enemy we were facing was the Killing Frost of Ghurulak (From DMGII). We were in the frost, making our fort saves. A god came along and gave us all protection from his mind effects, but I willingly gave in to his command. We had a spelljammer ship and while we were resting in the air (some 400 feet up), I proceeded to kill our captain, our raptor, 30 of our crewman, and steal a shitload of our magical items. After that, one of Ghurulak's other followers came along and teleported me to his temple where I was then turned into a vampire. Upon this event, the DM took my character... |

| Arcticflare02-07-06, 04:32 PM | Yes it did. Hmmm, Krodoke is still pretty young yet, seems like. Sounds like he has a lot of potential though. Cool. You're lower than an elf. Anyway, I said it was Part I. He's an ECL 20 right now, so here's some more. After a while, Krodoke and Quarion started noticing a growing number of undead harassing them. For several months, they merely destroyed each group with surprising ease. In their adventures, they met a human priest of Pelor and a half-orc fighter. Their names were Styver and Braddock, respectively. They brought needed muscle and healing to the team, and the undead became even easier to wipe out. After about a year, the group was exploring an ancient temple, thought long-abandoned by it's neighbors. It had been defiled by undead, run -seemingly- by a vampire. Although an attempt was made to separate the group, they easily broke through the barrier and overcame their foes. While rummaging through the vampire's possesions, they found a letter. It was from one Aramil Naistul, ordering for the undead to "prepare for the advent of my foes". It didn't take long for them to realize they had an enemy. Another year passed, and the four almost forgot about the event. The life of an adventurer leaves little room for old, obscure memories. They each grew stronger, and fought harder. Krodoke occasionally returned to his people to bring new items and build better traps. At one point, he took on an apprentice (called simply "The Red"). Passing on his martial expertise, Krodoke taught him to use his anger efficiently, as well as how to hold it back. He's currently second in line for the metaphorical throne. Just as Krodoke was considering returning to his tribe for good, they were enlisted to assault another dark structure. This one was known to house a huge host of undead. Nonetheless, Krodoke and his allies bravely marched in. After several tough battles, they staggered into the final chamber. Before them stood an oddly familiar elf, though the stench of decay was thick on her. Quarion, acting quickly, blasted her with a final disintegrate. Another month passed, and they were sent to yet another undead ruin. They had now become quite adept at slaying these foul creations, and ripped through their opponents. Again, they found Aramil waiting for them. This time, Braddock and Styver made short work of her. Styver explained to them that she must be a lich, an arcane spellcaster who gave up their humanity for the taint of undeath. They spent a year searching for Aramil Naistul's phylactery. With the aid of Pelor, Styver eventually located it's whereabouts. It was in an old tower near Shadowfang Swamp, one that noone had seen, much less entered for over two decades. It was there they would have to go. Bypassing the lock on the front doors was easy compared to the challenges that waited for them inside. Although the first room contained nothing more than an energy drain trap, the next one held the coffins of two strong vampires. The room was too cramped for Quarion to get off an effective spell. Instead, Styver downed one after burning two empowered searing lights. Krodoke's claws and fleshraker companion greatly facilitated Braddock's victory over the other. The next several rooms appeared to have contained bunks and a kitchen, as well as other things the living left behind. A trap in one of the bedrooms triggered a sliding floor, which jettisoned them downward and into the next room. This area resembled a twisted combination of forge and nursery. No less than thirty skeletons and zombies surrounded the party, with still-dead corpses littering the stone tiled floor. It was all Styver could to do keep most of them at bay. Luckily, this gave him the precious time needed to fight back. Braddock took out many with his whirlwind of fists, Quarion incinerated half of them, and Krodoke mowed the rest down as a bloodstriker dinosaur. Another set of thick iron doors awaited them. The lock could not be manipulated. A sheet of lead prevented bypassing it. Braddock was up to the challenge, though. With a casting of haste and bull's strength, he had it down in about a minute. This chamber's walls were lined with what appeared to be obsidian. Bare, save for a massive throne, evil and death hung in the air. Dwarved by the throne, a deathly pale elf stood up. With the presence of a demigod, she declared. "Four years ago, you attacked me. You thought you killed me. Indeed you did. But death is not always the end. Now I, Aramil Naistul, shall have my revenge." Braddock and Krodoke lept at her and scored several hits. For some reason, neither Styver's attempt to turn her, nor Quarion's attempt to disintegrate her were succesful. Just as Braddock and Krodoke flanked her, she warped away from them and hurled a fireball. Styver had no more offensive spells left, so he devoted himself to supporting his allies. Quarion continued his spell onslaught, hoping that one would get through. Braddock charged in again. Krodoke watched and waited. Again, she used dimension door to escape Braddock. This time, however, she found herself face to face with Krodoke. Wasting no time, he dug his claws into her flesh and held fast. Unable to get away, she returned the embrace, beginning to drain the lizardfolk's very essence. Quarion finally made effective use of a maximized scorching ray. Styver hit her with a heal spell. Braddock got in a solid flurry of blows. The final touch was Krodoke using a stilled and maximized flame blade to kill her and set the corpse aflame. They did not bother searching for the phylactery. Braddock demolished the throne, and Styver consecrated the ruins. Although Quarion adventured with them for some more time, Krodoke finally returned to his home. He had found the power he sought, and was content to rest for a little while. |
