| Yipwyg the Mighty02-03-04, 05:35 PM | Greetings and salutaions all, I come asking for help to role-play what some would call Munchkin, Evilly Munchkinned, OMG-I-want-to-rip-out-your-eyes-you-twink Munchkin, or weird. See, I like to set a "role-playing Goal" in every campaign I'm in. I make an unorthodox or out-of-the-ordinary character, and try to role-play well to my satisfaction. Each time it gets a little more weird. But this time I think I might be a little out of my league: A Chaotic Neutral Mineral Warrior Insectile Half-Blood Yuanti Fighter/Dervish. He has his own code of honour, albeit one he breaks when it suits him, and is a cultist of a Dualistic "Power"(Not quite a Deity, but close), one of Shadow and flame, Honour and Anarchy. He wields six dire scimitars in combat. But despite what I have, I'm finding it difficult to get a satisfactory background, or a good personality. Any help will be appreciated. |

Well... NO KIDDING!!! Okay, maybe that wasn't very nice... I'll try to think of somethink, but it could be hard, I don't know every one of these classes. I promise I'll try though... (What's so wrong with human fighters anyway?!?) |
| Yipwyg the Mighty02-03-04, 07:11 PM | I realize that this character is a little over-the-top, but my entire gaming experiences have been building up to this guy, each character getting weirder and weirder... And weirder. And the Dervish is a prestige class in The Complete Warrior. And Human Fighters? Been there, done that, got the T-shirt... Multiple times, by the way. And so that no one wonders about the templates I have... Mineral Warrior- Forgotten Realms Underdark Supplement Book. Insectile- Savage Species Book. Half-Blood Yuan-ti- Monster Manual, Edition 3.5 |
| Yipwyg the Mighty02-04-04, 09:07 AM | Mmm... Not many replies... But not a very highly-frequented board, by the same token. Anyways, I've fleshed this guy out a little more. I'll still need some help with background and personality, but I have some more structure to what could be put. He always carries around a small locked box, whose contents even HE does not remember, at all times. (What could be in it?) He is covered in tattoos showing his fervour for his Lord, and carries around many small non-magical totems, tokens, and oddities around with him, including a rainstick, rabbit-foot, and other things. He has a few body piercings as well, earings, and other. He enjoys the hunt, the breathless over-taking of his prey, and cutting them down in a fight favouring him. He refuses to drink anything but fruit-juice, water and milk, except for some types of Fungus-wine distilled by cultures such as the Drow and the Duergar. He hates the sun, but LOVES heat and fire, not quite to the point of being a pyromaniac(I didn't want Chaotic Insane), but still liking fire. He engages in astrology, believing that the night-sky can fore-tell omens and such things. If he knows in advance of a battle to be fought, he goes into isolation for a few minutes or hours and performs a wild chant and dance around the fire for hid Lord, before coming out in a fearless, almost frezied state. Despite all this, he is devoted to whatever he puts his mind to, at least most of the time. He is concentrated and dedicated in his efforts, unless he finds a task he enjoys more during his current task. Good? |

Could you summarize what are those classes and races? I don't think we need to know the exact BAB, AC and saves, but what is the general combat style of a mineral warrior or a dervish? Am I likely to meet an insectile character in my next trip to New York? |
| TheBlackBart02-04-04, 10:56 AM | The content of the box could be a sacred relic of a God, and your character's mission is to protect it. Since he does not have the right to open the box, he does not know what the relic looks like. Or it could be a cursed artifact, and because you don't know how do destroy it, you keep it on the box to keep it from doing harm. (The box itself could be a magical device to harness its power up to a point). Talk about it with your DM and it could become a great plot element, the relic or artifact could activate his power of his own volition at the most unexpected moments. It gives me an idea. Unless insectile yuan-ti are common in your campaign world, you could be the result of a magical accident, experiment, or curse. More: since the Yuan-Ti are former humans mixed with snakes thank to their serpent god, maybe an alien isectile gods, enemy of the serpant god, decided to mingle with the process that time, making you an abomination amongst Yuan-Ti. You fled into the Underdark and you meet followers of your "creator". That could be hook horrors, or even Lolth-worshipping drows... The artifact/relic could be of the Yuan-Ti or drows... And you were either entrusted with it or you stole it. You would probably need a hell of a good reason not to be Evil though. |
| Yipwyg the Mighty02-04-04, 06:10 PM | Insectile Template- The creature's physical appearance is reminiscient of that of a bug or insect. That's about it. Mineral Warrior Template- Through a strange Underdark ritual, the creature becomes, essentially, living stone. Dervish Prestige Class- A quick, wild warrior whose combat method involves dancing a dance of death. They are often gypsies, and most often wield scimitars. That should clear up most questions. Anyways, thanks for all the input! I like the ideas for what's in the box(Though really, I'll leave it up to my DM). So kudos to everyone here. Keep it up! |
| TranquilDarkness02-05-04, 03:48 AM | Ok, with some idea of what he is it might be a good idea to look at what he was. He was born as an insectile half blood Yuan-Ti, right? With a small part of humanity inside, or some other parent race? What kind of culture did he grow up in? How was he selected for the weird ritual to become a mineral warrior? What reason has an essentially earth-based warrior for specializing in two-weapon use? |

In this case, it is more six-weapon use! The Mineral Warrior rings me a bell, I saw it on an Excerp from the Underdark, here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20031003e). The description says it could be inflicted by evil race on others. Perhaps was you a quick fighter, using the synergy of your Dervish PrC with your six arms. And some evil wizard inflict him the Mineral Warrior template in the hope of slowing you. In fact, it only made you stronger, and you were able to kill them and flee. But like it was asked before, what were you before? Are you born half-yuanti, or was it inflicted to you as well (My yuan-ti knowledges are quite limited...)? You could only start as an dervish insectile from another plane. You were caught by some yuan-ti, they think you can be a good bodyguard, and they change you in yuan-ti. Abracadabra! |
| Rainos02-29-04, 10:13 PM | I like the original name with all the berating after it. Make him insane and have him keep refering to himself as that. As for his alignment you could have both, Multipersonality character. His Yanti side versus his bug side. Which will prevail. bum bum bum As for a background I believe a perversion of a yanti initiation sounds right. Thus another reason for his madness. He could then have been forced out of his home because he wouldn't shut up and he kept banging his head into other peoples houses at three in the mourning. (I hatre those people) Or he could have been a Jahova's witness and the box could contain his fliars.
