| Mysk02-06-06, 08:47 PM | Alright... the campaign i'm running is going great so far. I've gotten by on a homebrew setting that has just landed the players in Sharn. I'm hybriding a bit of Eberron into this world to take a bit of the load off my shoulders. The party has been aware of the Big Bad Evil Guy (in this case girl) since their first module when they ran for their lives out of a temple, saving the sacrifice from her grasp before she could finish the ritual. They've not seen her in person since they ran from her, but her wrath has ravaged the land hot on their heels; they've been in a constant state of running and terror since. Now that they've finally landed in a relatively Neutral stanced city (Nothing is there to kill them outright or scare the pee out of them). Its given them some time to settle down and catch their breath. This also gives me a chance to develop my enemies out a bit more (Gather my thoughts). I have their actions and persona down in my mind... but when I try to give them a name... I come up short. For my main evil, she is a necromancer by apearance, leading an army of cultists and undead around the world to activate temples, each opening one more gateway to a particular Avatar. Once she has released them... well, this is a long way down the road and those are only the real overhanging story points. So she's a villain without a name, (Up till now most npc's that have heard of her know of her only as "She" or "Her", with emphasis to dictate if they refer to the dark lord. Can you guys give me some name suggestions for when her unmasking finally occurs? I apologize for the novel... but I figured a "Name such such" post would get me responses like "Jill... or Ron" or something... So yeah... I'd really appreciate some help. |

For example... Gloria can be flipped a bit and turned into Glaria, Loria, Laria, etc. Jennifer can be changed up abit to Jinnyfer, Genevere, Guenivere, etc. Bridget can be changed around to Birdget, Birgitte, Brigitte, etc. Just play around with some fammiliar names until you get one that sounds right for the character. |
| Ashianyl02-07-06, 06:48 AM | Lets see... BBEG with necromantic affiliations... :D Firstnames: Nishta S'sandra (suh_san_drah) Lastnames: Shadelyn Hope the names suits you. I just love coming up with names for characters. :) |
| Pan_Ai_Khan02-07-06, 08:38 AM | Drow names are always useful, if you can find a source for them. One name i'm particularly fond of is "Malice". Other (none-drow) female names I've used: Ytrana, Ryoko, Demonique (Demi to her 'friends') Titles are also a good place to inspire fear or respect, especially if you slip strange words in there like 'Incantatrix'. |
| Fenris7802-07-06, 09:06 AM | I used http://rinkworks.com/namegen/ which is handy. I also printed off about 3 pages of names from it that I will use and just cross names off as and when I use them. One of my mates runs fantasticly well-thought out campaigns but then ends up with every non-major NPC called Bob or Kate because he's crap at thinking of names on the spot :rolleye2: |
| Mysk02-07-06, 06:38 PM | Awesome. It really is a gamble to fish on these threads... Just hang a post out there and hope I can nab myself a bit of help, and it really worked for a change. Thank you all. I've got enough thoughts to work with (many thanks for the Website) now that I should be set. Again, many many thanks :) |
| Pandaemoni02-07-06, 07:09 PM | You can also peruse baby-naming sites. Many break down names by country or region of origin, so you can pick the cultural flavor you like best. |
| HorgeshII02-08-06, 02:47 AM | If human, I usually just do net searches for passanger lists and census reports from 11th-17th century Europe. If non-human, I like the random naming tables presented in the "Races of..." books. Finally, here's a link to a fantasy name generator. It's got a large list which culls from many mythos. | DevilJimmy02-08-06, 11:37 AM | Lilith -there is actually some good backstory to this. Of course, everyone thinks of Frasier's wife, but that was actually a subtle joke about the real Lilith. Supposedly, Lilith was the first wife of Adam, but was kicked out of Eden 'cause she didn't want to be subservient to him and she turned into a witch. Also said to be the mother of all vampires. :headexplo There you go, Lilith. Long Live Dogface!!!! :hoppingma |
