For this I would suggest that a board be created for threads used solely for people to post as their characters would. For example, someone (preferably someone experienced in GMing or a board moderator) could start a topic, and everyone could give reply as some of their characters would. This can hep us to get more in touch with our characters so they feel more real when we play them and we can better judge what they would do when certain situations arise. It could also help those just starting their characters to develop a personality. If a seperate forum can't be made, periodic threads (we could call them IC or "In-Character" threads) could be started on this board. Whadya think? Poocho :) |

| Poocho02-26-04, 03:06 AM | Looks good. I just put the first thread up and outlined what should be a good format. The first topic is started, and I introduced my characters. I'll add their responses later, but others can go ahead themselves if they like. (If you're worried about going through the hassle of registering to post, I found it to be very quick and easy compared to most other forums) Just my thoughts, Poocho :) |
| Trydan02-26-04, 03:34 AM | Nice idea. I think one problem here might be mixing the genres. For a science fantasy setting, mentioning an aliens laser blaster might be perfectly reasonable, but for a dwarven berserker, it would be somewhat lost. Conversely, the wizard casting Earthquake on the starship might be a wee tad odd. My solution would be to ensure that all new threads start with something that describes the genre, setting, etc.. Otherwise, I think it will be too confusing. |

They're all gaming boards where you actually play. I tried to make it clear in my original post that I wanted a place in which people could test out how their characters would interact in hypothetical situations between their actual games when their actions would really count. I wanted it to be a sort of practice ground for people to work on their characters so when they play the next time they start with a more in-depth character. I just added the thoughts of my characters to the thread. This should further illustrate what I meant. The forum is meant to develop their personalities, not to actually do stuff. Just my explanation, Poocho :) |

| Poocho02-27-04, 08:57 PM | Ah, my mistake. Mainly judging from the forum descriptions on the main forum listing and a few of the stickies in the forums, I thought that they were all for gaming in specific games. For some reason, I didn't check the very first one past its description; and, lo and behold, it says:This board allows you to play when you can't meet up with chat buddies, or if you just want to do something on a smaller, more temporary scale than DM a whole game board (see Games: Message Boards below). You can adventure here, combine it with storylines from the chat rooms—whatever! All settings are welcome here –fantasy, medieval, scifi, steampunk, etc. Looks like I could actually use this board for my purposes. Thanks for the pointer! Poocho :) |
