Suggestions for an ancestral weapon for my hex blade/warlock [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-19-05, 12:03 AM My dm told me I could design myself a piece of equipmentthat is unique to my character as long as I don't go overboard. Currently he is a tiefling hexblade 4/warlock 8. I was thinking of making it a longsword that lets me channel my evocations and eldritch blasts through it. I was thinking it was made by my succubus Grandmother to wreck havoc on the Prime Material plane through her descendants. If anyone has any more suggestions I would be honored to hear them.

08-19-05, 04:35 PM Well, if you are going more melee type, I would make it a 2H weapon since you aren't likely to be using a shield anyway. But regardless,some ideas for the cool parts:

Spell-storing is a +1 and is always a nice way to add to a combat. As a Hexblade 4, you probably would only be able to put something like Tasha's Laughter in it yourself, but you could have a friend put in something a bit more serious up to 3rd level spells.

The channel your eldritch blast is a good idea. Have the blade enchanted to provide the Hideous Blow invocation. Basically, it would give you that option without making you take that invocation.

You could do the same with any of the eldritch essence ones: If you already have hideous blow, the sword could bestow a particular essence to it (limit it to a type your DM wouldn't argue with)

08-20-05, 04:28 AM Ok, first up, I'll just say now I don't know too much about warlocks or hexblades. The one thing I want to say is: Make sure it makes sense. If your Succubus wasn't a spellcaster, why would she give it spell-storing? If she wasn't a hexblade, don't give it a feature that is geared towards Hexblades.

Anyway, that's just my opinion, it just (To me, at least) doesn't make sense for your grandmother to give a weapon an ability that, as far as she knew, might never be used.

08-24-05, 02:04 PM ticattack is right. If the weapon was made by the succubus (or is instilled with her essence/whatever) then the powers should be something of that nature. I don't have a listing of succubus powers handy, but charm (along with probably other enchantment spells) are obvious. I think Savage Species has a level advancement for a succubus character that had several spell like abilities.

Since they are demons...maybe some demon-like abilities (the succubus wouldn't make this most likely but it could have absorbed her essence) Fire resistance, contact other plane, etc.

is that possible... to make a hideous blow sword? anyone know the cost/DC for a warlock 12 to do that?
