I've been trying to put together an interesting Sun Elf character history of late and I can't seem to think up something interesting to build on, heh.

I'm not really asking for a full bio (I actually love writing those up in detail) but more of an idea to actually build on. My Sun Elf is going to be in a northern campaign in Faerun (maybe not too north like the Vast, or maybe the sword coast north or Damara etc) and will generally not be around other elves, so he'll have to have a reason for being there. Knowing Sun Elves, I haven't been able to come up with one. I mostly play Moon Elves from Cormanthor, so if there's a Sun Elf expert out there who can give me a class/occupation/history to build on, that'd be great.

Why would a Sun Elf go to the northlands of Faerun, what class would he be, what kind of personality might he generally have. Stuff like that.

Thanks in advance.

I think you can play your Sun Elf as a Moon Elf, but even more arrogant. Where a Moon Elf would look down any non-elf, the Sun Elf would look down any non-Sun Elf.

Aside from wizards, what classes are Sun Elves most likely to gravitate toward? What would a cool multi-class combo be for a Sun Elf for that matter?

Well, it can be anything. We know that most Sun Elves are wizards and take great pride of it. Other typical classes for an elf could be fighter, ranger, rogue, cleric, druid and perhaps bard. Remember that your character is just an individual amongst the other Sun Elves, not the typical Sun Elf. And even more, he is an adventurer, having left his house to seek fortune elsewhere. Starting with that, he could have left his house because he doesn't fit with the other Sun Elves.

You could be a barbarian? More muscular than the typical Sun Elf, you never understood the Arcane Art, and you caused many headaches to your elders, to the point they politely suggested you to seek enlightenment elsewhere. Start as a Ranger 1 for Track and to be litterate. The rage will compensate the racial penalty to STR and CON, and your bonus to DEX will help your AC. Or you could become a mounted barbarian, using ride-by attacks to avoid going in melee.

Thanks again for the reply Morka. Yeah I've given some of the less usual classes thought too. Ranger is oddly appealing.

It seems like of the core classes, and aside from a wizard, a sun elf fits best with the Bard class, Rogue or even Cleric. Because of the fact that they strike me as very urban elves. A fighter is an appealing option too, but I've always prefered spellcasting classes as they are a bit more strategic.

Anyway, I'll write something up and post it here to get feedback in a while.

I'm playing a Sun Elf from Silverymoon (you can check the Campaign setting for places they can have as their home region)
I'm playing a Druid/Wizard(Diviner)/ArcaneHierophant with the Education regional feat. He is more of a nature lover, but has also been trained in the arcane arts because of his upbringing. He mostly picks on the other elf in the party, whenever this character does something stupid. He expects stupidity from all other races so he's surprised if they do something clever.
He never rushes in, but always tried to use divination magic first. Allmost all skill points are in knowledge skills, so he already knows a lot even without the divination magic.
I've swapped to levels of Wizard for DivineOracle for even more divination and a +2 on knowledge religion.

He's a follower of Angharradh, and has quite a laid back approach about what happens elsewhere, unless it concerns elves or nature. He is willing to help others, but he's not going to get personal about it, except for these two causes.
