| Lanoitakude09-23-04, 05:11 PM | I am working on a character right now who considers himself a super hero (has a costume, a super hero name, etc). His name would be Infinite Challenge, and he would be a Wilder. He would use self-buff speed/time oriented powers, along with his favored attack, Dissipating Touch. He would wear The Infinite Guantlet (not the one worn by Thanatos), which is a spiked gauntlet with his psicrystal (heroic personality) inset into it. He wouldn't call his abilities "psionics", he just thinks they are super powers. He'd be completely over the top LG, saving the innocent and thwarting villains. My question is, does this fit in D&D? I think it would be great fun to RP a super hero in D&D times, but my worry is that it wouldn't fit in the world and somehow detract from the gaming experience. Thoughts? |

Regardless, in a world where adventurers and heroes run about all the time, a superhero could very well be a fun and exciting addition to things. Using Wilder for a superhero is a pretty good idea, and I'd imagine it could pan out pretty well. With a little character development and good roleplaying, he sounds like he'd be a blast :) |

Wouldn’t it be much much better to call him “The Infinite Challenger” as challenge is a verb and leads me to believe that your character is well .. uh … mentally or physically challenged himself, rather than someone who goes about challenging whomever. As to the super aspect inside of D&D it’s definitely frowned upon by most gaming purists – but hey it’s your game go for it. Just don’t tell anyone your playing a superhero, make up some believable 'paragon for [insert cause here]' in game rational but effectively role-play your character “as if” he were a superhero. Naming things appropriately goes a long way towards believability. Necro |

Oh yeah, it's pronounced "Infinity Challenge" (I think the name has a great ring to it). I don't think he'd call himself a super hero, but he'd act like one. He'd call out his attacks a lot, and use cheesey names and etc. Example: He would call Dissipating Touch "Infinity Punch" I figured his story was that he started manifesting strange powers in his late teens when he found a strange gauntlet. The gauntlet had a gem inset in it (his psicrystal). Since his powers starting showing up when he got the gauntlet, he assumed the powers derived from wearing it (he was mistaken, it was just coincidence that he found the item at the same time he began using powers). The gauntlet protects him from attacks (Inertial Armor), and allows him to unleash devistating punches (Dissipating Touch). At later levels, it will allow him to fly, manipulate time (time hop/mass time hop), and move at incredible speeds (temporal acceleration), etc. He will also learn how to store power in the gauntlet (Psicrystal Containment). |

Nothing says “superhero” like a signature battle cry. “Spoon!” A geeky sidekick might be fun too, if you have the leadership feat. Powers such as energy push, energy ball, overland flight, or temporal acceleration could make for a very DBZ like super hero, or you could go superman and the whatnot. Lets not forget you could always play it X-Men style (I didn’t ask for these powers, but I have them, so I might as well use them for good… in spandex). Either way, fight the good fight, never kill (because the law will take care of criminals), and always be overly optimistic even as a hoard of giants comes stomping over the hills. ~Rain~ |
| Lanoitakude09-23-04, 07:33 PM | I love the idea of having a sidekick! Only problem is, the name Infinite Challenge doesn't go well with a sidekick name. Examples of good duos: -Rock Strongo and the Cactus Kid -Insult Man and the Come-back Kid -Stretch Dude and Clobber Girl -Radioactive Man and Fallout Boy I don't want him to throw energy blasts. I'm not going for a DBZ-like character, though I do enjoy the show. The only ranged attack power he would have is Concussion Blast. I picture him throwing an "air punch" at someone. The build would look something like this (I know this isn't optimize boards, I'm asking how flavorful these seem) Feats: 1: Empower Power, Psicrystal Affinity(hero) 3: Psicrystal Containment 6: Psionic Meditation 9: Expanded Knowledge (fly, psionic) 12: Leadership 15: Maximize Power 18: Expanded Knowledge (time hop, mass) Powers (by level): 1- Inertial Armor, Dissipating Touch 2- Concussion Blast 3- Body Adjustment 4- (3rd level) Time Hop 5- Adapt Body 6- Temporal Acceleration 7- Mind Blank (personal) I hate it when super heros get their minds controlled 8- Teleport (greater psionic) 9- Timeless Body He'd basically fight things by pumping up Dissipating Touch, then smacking someone with it (empowered/maximized using Psicrystal's focus). He'd manipulate the battlefield using his time powers (time hop/mass), protect himself with inertial armor/adapt body/timeless body, and move around with Fly (psionic) and Temporal Acceleration. Here's an idea for a different name: Vanguard Soul. Vangaurds are the warriors who are the first charge into battle. Since I'll be taking Leadership, I should start my own "super hero" organization. I would call it The League of Vanguards, to tie it to my name. I could have Vanguard Soul and the Cavalry Kid! So, what'ya think? |
