| BriefcaseRonin03-05-04, 01:18 PM | I'm planning to play in a Online Campaign with, if the DM will allow it, a Evil Character. At the moment to my suprise I have run out of creative steam and was wondering what other players out there play Evil Characters and what are they like. Possibly a outline of their personality and history? P.S. Anyone know what book I can find the Pale Master prestige class in? |
| Morka03-05-04, 02:46 PM | Pale master: Tome & Blood. I don't have a specific evil character to share with you. Is it an evil campaign, are you the only evil character? Usually, there is 2 kinds of evil character: the one who seek to end the world because he's evil, and the one who's just selfish. A nice twist for an not-completely-evil character could be the lycanthropy. Take a low-level character, any class, any non-evil alignment, and have him been bitten by a lycanthrope. Wait a few months that his alignment shift to evil, and you have a wonderful character! |
| Dawnspeaker03-05-04, 05:25 PM | Well you've been told for where to find it. The last evil character I had played was a CE Mountain Orc Barbarian/Frenzied Berserker. He was 14th level, had a high Str, high Con, low Int, Low Cha(I mean like less then 6 on both), and medium Wis and Dex. My friends I was playing were also all orcs. Barbarian/Orc Warlord, Cleric of Gruumash, Barbarian/Adept, 3 Barbarians. We just rampaged around, ate halfings and elves. It was great. Course with my low intelligent and frenzy I slew our adept, and one of the other barbarians but they were acceptable loses for the great orciness |
| BriefcaseRonin03-05-04, 05:43 PM | This character is going to be for a Good Campaign, but thats IF I get in, i'm thinking of making a reformed villain, a enemy who was beaten and decided to try and redeem themselves, but still fight with their inner evil. |
| Lord of the Ninth03-05-04, 06:30 PM | Right now I'm playing an evil Jedi in SW. Here's how he met the party... Everyone but me is locked in the hold of a republic prisonship for investigating the attack of a planet under quarintine. A new prisoner is supposed to be brought in, they hear: [guard's voice]: "Aahh! My spleen! SPLORT! [Me]: *evil giggle* And then I walk into the room, and somehting slimy (spleen) to a stunned guard and break out the lightning, with clever catch-phrase "Entropy, it's what's for dinner". 'course after the ensuing battle I had 2 VP left, and I had enough Darkside Points to make leveling up a bit risky (I'm slowly rotting from the inside out because no living being is uspposed to be as evil as I happen to be). One of my past characters that I really liked would be Krinzl. Krinzl was a gnome illusionist who suffered from exceptional paranoia and had some serious antisocial tendencies. First, he was always so careful in combat-like situations that it took him about 3-4 levels before an NPC got a decent hit on him (invisibility, cover, and Rope Trick, plus once I hid inside the animated corpse of a hydra [fort save to resist nausea]). He also once purchased one of the ceiling beams in a bar and slept tied to it instead of in a bed (Which is good because later a mob stormed the place and they didn't look where I was). Now he was also very evil, he has burned a temple to Garl Glittergold in a gnome town, helped unleash at least three plagues and he's started a riot, all in one town. All without getting caught (very careful planning). Now he was of course an excellent team player, because wasn't CE he was NE. He knew that his maliciousness could best be spread by a team, and so he allowed a stone giant/human cleric of Erythnul and a doppleganger assassin to join the fun. 'course he had a series of contingency plans to betray them both and emerge unscathed should they turn on him. Plus all his evil had a purpose (they wanted to so greatly weaken the gnome town that it would be easily conquered), well except for the dryad skin cloak (although that did save my life once when I was lost in the Grey Waste of Hades) |
| DarkRitual03-06-04, 04:16 AM | Hmm. Yeah, there's the whole "eating Hins" type evil, and there's also the more subtle evil. Examples of more subtly evil characters would be a Neutral Evil Bard of Shar (my current character). He's a Half-Elf, high INT and Charisma and Wisdom, average Strength and Constitution (10) and decent Dexterity. He hides the fact that he's evil when he's among Good folk with his charming and sly smile. He knows that an Evil character who reveals their nature right off blantantly in a Good oriented area is going to be killed or exiled at best. He uses a Heavy crossbow and wears only clothing and no armor, aristocratic stuff (due to his backstory of being born into a wealthy family). Another example is a Lawful Evil Hin Wizardess of Shar. That's a character I've seen and admired :-) Both are subtle, yet quite Evil in the end. -DarkRitual |
| Gingerbread Guy03-06-04, 06:47 AM | Hiho, My take on evil is not the traditional one - that is because I think most people mistake evil for chaotic evil. Evil is callousness, greed, and malice. It isn't always homicidal, however. Just because you're evil doesn't mean that you have to go around constantly doing evil things - thats chaotic evil, and stupid, to boot. Also, just because someone is evil doesn't mean that they want to bring about the apocalypse - thats simply extreme. Finally, what one evil character enjoys, another may abhor. Good characters don't always run around doing good at all moments. A good character can be a jerk, but still mean well. He can be rude, brash, egotistical and fanatic, but still good at heart. By the same token, evil characters can be friendly, helpful, polite, genial and modest - but still evil to the core. In fact, it is often the kindly, unassuming evils that are truly the most unsettling - and successfull. In terms of how law and chaos affect evil, here's my rundown of your average evil doers: The Lawful Evil character is twisted and corrupt, but he still has standards. He may enjoy torturing elven women to death, but consider people who steal from the elderly to be "the real sickos". The Lawful Evil character most likely has a line that even he won't cross, unless he has to or if its just plain convenient. Additionally, he seeks structure in his life like any other Lawful creature. He likely uses authority and status to get what he wants, and expects others to follow his code. The Neutral Evil character is unbound by any code, but also doesn't feel burdened by restrictions. He is probably more self-centered than other evil characters, and his evil knows no boundaries. While he is probably smart enough not to go on senseless killing sprees, he might if he thought he could get away with it. The Chaotic Evil character wants to get away with it. Fear is the only thing that rules them - so beware Chaotic Evil characters who are immune to fear lol. There is no particular evil that this character prefers - in fact, he probably wants to try a little of everything. He doesn't prey on one specific kind of victim or stay in the same area. If he has long-term goals, he is most likely to want to bring change, both in his life and in the world around him. I'm currently playing a Neutral character who is host to a Fiendish Symbiont [from the Fiend Folio]. She has to perform a Will save every day, or succumb to the temptation to commit an evil act. While I think my fellow players are concerned that she is going to slit their throats in their sleep or suddenly stab them in the head, they have little to worry about. Evil characters can still have friends. They can still admire and respect people [particularly the lawful ones], and they can certainly see the use in keeping people THINKING they're friends. She has no intentions of murdering her own party members, although stealing from them is another issue. All in all, she is more tempted to experiment with evil acts that she can get away with. Her self-preservation instinct is still greater than her desire to chop stuff up into little pieces. She would rather "watch the prisoner" while the others explore the rest of the cave. When they come back to find her and a corpse, she'll simply explain that "He tried to escape." Certainly, she will have arranged the scene to back up her story. How his eyes got poked out with a shrimp fork, well, that she simply can't explain either. When in doubt, an imp did it. lol My suggestion for your evil character is that he prey on people other than his group. Also, don't advertise that you're evil. Be polite, laugh, dance, sing, and tip your barmaids. This all goes to establishing an aleby, if you are ever caught. Pick some crimes that your character enjoys - they need not be major, like murder. Perhaps he likes to steal, or take advantage of women, or take advantage of women and then steal from them. lol Perhaps - and this is very sinister and fun - he wants to corrupt people into being like him. After all, he enjoys being evil and wants his friends to be unburdened with all those silly morals of theirs. Its for their own good. Er, evil. ~Ginger |
| BriefcaseRonin03-06-04, 09:10 AM | Well, SHE ^_^ Just mentioning that. If she is going to be 'True Evil' Instead of struggling with that darker half, i'll probably make her Lawful Evil so that she appears to do good, and use the party of personal gain whenever she has the chance. Also, what does Hins mean? /http://www.lineage2.com/pds/pds_wallpaper.asp/200402_wallpaper_800 This is the picture I was planning to use for my Moon Elf Necromancer, I don't know if the link words, if it doesn't then just use the link up to pds_wallpaper.asp and its the second picture on there. |
| Cynosure03-06-04, 05:37 PM | I'm currently playing an Epic evil character. He's a Half-Illithid, Sun-Elf Wizard/Ur-Priest. This is a quick run-down of his past; When he was young (90ish) he was made into a half-illithid against his will by a feral Mind-Flayer. At this point, he ran away from his family because he believed that he would be shunned for his deformity (The tentacles). Basically, he attempts to hide his tentacles by using any means necessary because he is extremely vain. Interestingly enough, he doesn't realize that not everyone is just as vain as he is. Thus, he believes everyone should display an extraordinary amount of tact and politeness. When they don't, it angers him. Generally, he's travelling with his current companions because some have seen his deformity and either said nothing of it, or shown him compassion anyway. (Exalted people are like that) As such, he shows a lot of care to those couple people in the party. The rest of the party, he cares nothing for. The main reason he's evil, however, is the fact that he'd do just about anything for knowledge. Kill, torture, maim, just as long as it doesn't make him any uglier. :) He even made a deal with the BBEG of the campaign to betray his party for a great deal of rare knowledge. This deal directly lead to the death of almost his entire party (two escaped with their lives besides him.) Can you guess which two? :P It was a very climactic battle and it was made all the more interesting by playing an evil character amidst a bunch of good guys. Is this is somewhat similar to what you're going for? He didn't start evil, and he definitely still has some good tendencies, but his mind was warped by the transfiguration into half-illithid, thus tainting his lust for knowledge. I think you've got a good character idea going for you, just need to give him a few quirks and flesh out the concept, and he's good as gold. :D How'd you like my character? Was it helpful? Any way I can assist more? |
| Rainos03-08-04, 06:10 PM | first of all i'd love to get in on an online campiegn if you would like another player. (my email is junkyard999@optonline.net) Secondly alignmennt is more of a guidline. Even caotic evil characters will do good deeds if it will benefit them. Also you could mke your character the opitomy of evil. She could wish to destroy everything and widsh to spread evil and caos whereever she goes. However i find the characters don't live very long especially in towns with a large supply of guards. |
| Daikona03-09-04, 08:38 PM | I'm currently playing an evil character, in a good campaign, and the rest of the party doesn't know she's evil. (DM not only allowed but encouraged, checked with other players OOC before campaign started to make sure there were no major objections) NE Drow Assassin. (Assassin by trade, not PrC. And save the "eew! Drow!", her presence is story integrated, and I expend a lot of effort not getting caught and run out of town by angry mobs, so it's played ~_^) The fact that the other party memebers don't realize that she's evil (including the one who was in the party to start with because he'd been hired to keep an eye on her) suggests that I do the subtle evil well. Now, some of what she's up to I can't mention here, because it's storyline spoiler and some of the other players read the boards. But anyway. She manipulates. She gets people to do things for her and think it was their idea. She's not above killing someone if it's necessary, not by a long shot. And if they've been wanting killing, she enjoys it. But in most cases, she'd just as soon make them work for her somehow. Or at the very least, convince someone else to off them. ;) She's out for power. Her background, to be brief, involved her being roughly pond scum for much of her life, and she's out to make up for it and Make Them Pay (tm). Now, quite a bit of what she's gotten so far has involved a lot more schmoozing, kissing up, and traded favors than anything, but it's still getting her where she needs to go. And it's been some fun roleplaying in the meantime! I think I have the evil (and the race) down reasonably well. I make the DM nervous sometimes, when I really get going. ;) |
| nick01200003-11-04, 04:32 AM | In the d20 modern campaign I am running, there is a character who is borderline evil. He's a Charismatic Hero 3/ Arcane Arranger 3/ Vampire 1. He's the greedy type of evil. He'll swindle you of everything you have and convince you you're better off without it, all with a smile. |
| Quithion03-11-04, 03:16 PM | A current Character in my caimpaign is N/E Rogue/Fighter/ Swashbuckler / Vampire blood line Hes a smugglr and has been using the character to accomplaish some deeds for him. its been pretty fun so far |
| thalious03-14-04, 06:58 PM | An evil character of mine that I have played for over 2 years now is a Chaotic Evil Tiefling named Yuri "The Bastard" Dobrivko. He is a Fighter, Rogue, Outlaw, Ranger, TCL=21st Level. Yuri began his adventuring career as a scout/enforcer for a small time rogues guild. True to his abyssal lineage, he is cowardly when faced with an equal or greater foe than himself, while displaying inspired rage when facing weaker foes or certain others who have insulted him. Yuri weilds a +5 Keen Speed Rapier equiped with Rings of Readiness and has a +3 Brilliant Energy Rapier as a back up. Yuri wears a suit of +8 Glamored Heavy Fortification Leather Armor with Acid and Fire Resistance 10. Yuri is also equipped with Ring of Spell Storing (Teleport, Stoneskin, C-L-Wounds). Yuri's most recent dastardly deed was playing a major role in the assassination of Alusair Obarskyr. Yuri also lended a hand in the destruction of Khelben. |
| TheMightyMcClaw03-14-04, 10:17 PM | As much fun as the marauding, sadistic madman clad in "Heavy Metal Album Cover" spiked black full plate is, here are two evil characters I've played: The Chemist: An obese gnomish alchemist who quested for eternal life, he was the typical "manipulator" character. He used the rest of the party (who were mostly the above-mentioned madmen) to secure money and eliminate his enemies. Mahou Kenshi: Mahou Kenshi is completely ruthless, devious, and rather charming. A warlord from a poor nation, Kenshi is secretly a warlock who sold his soul to Mephestaphales (however that may be spelled) in exchange for magical power. He murdered his father and older brother in an "accidental" fire in order to ascend to the rulership of his house. In conversation, he is quite witty and elequent; an ability which he uses to hide his malevolence and lust for power. He is currently dead, and looking for a remedy. :P |
| Drake Dragonslayer03-20-04, 03:13 PM | Ah yes, Evil character. My favorite one: Getarnal Zwil-Tarnak. Male Drow Rogue 11/Assasin 10 (3.0) He was an agent of pure destruction, he worked as the right hand man to Horizon Ultimus Underbough. A Half-Fiend Halfling Cleric of Nerull.(Played by a friend) We did occasionally do some good but most of the time were plotting how to become rulers. We started by founding a two cities and creating an army to attack nearby towns. While they were attacking, we headed to a planar metropolis to seek some money. Combining Horizons destractions and my abilitys we managed to rob several houses and I sacrificed the occupants to my Devilish Lord (Mephistopheles) We continued in this way until we started a new campaign in the same world, now under their control. |
| Lily_Knight03-20-04, 08:13 PM | Once during a Dragonlance campaign, I played a human wizard with an alignment of lawful neutral. He was loyal to magic first, and everything else came second. However when he completed his test at the tower of high sorcery the orders gave him the Black robes of an evil mage. I suppose it had something to do with the fact that my character killed an illusion of a fellow party member when they stood between him and his magic. The funny thing was, i didn't realise I played an evil character until the DM said something about it. It caught me by supprise because I didn't randomly fire magic missiles at farmers. |
| pawnman03-21-04, 10:17 AM | Gerald Friedman, 6 rogue/6 assassin. Gerald was part of a "special forces" unit in the military, much like the Army Rangers. After several members of his unit, who were also close friends, died in front of him, he gave up the military for a more mercenary lifestyle. Gerald is one of those not-quite-evil characters. He retains his loyalty to the king, and has made it clear to the assassin's guild that the king and his family are not up for bid. When he goes on a job, he only kills the person he's hired to (if he can help it). He does his best not to kill the guards, family, servants, only the target. Gerald doesn't really see himself as an assassin, he sees himself as a mercenary carrying out pinpoint strikes on his employer's enemies. |
| Unleash03-23-04, 06:35 PM | MINI BIO !© DEIMOS VEX: Phase 1: lvl 9 PsyWar, NE, born free and poor, enslaved as a child by mindflayers, they discovered his psionic potentiel and trained him and others like him to be their bodyguards, earned his freedom when adventurers killed the cabal, his stay with the flayers made him practically mute and pratically extraterrestial to the outside world, the only thing that kept him alive was his survival instincts. He became numb, joyless, emotionless, without pity or remorse, doing what must be done in order to see another day. He only killed to save his hide, he only stole to fill his belly, never feeling greed never indulging himself to anything. Fear and discipline kept him alive, that's the mentality he had to come up with to survive his captors. That remained his standard of life, until he met Ophelie... Phase2:Ophélie magically erased the Arcane Mark Deimos bore, he slowly learned about the realms, he slowly regained the will to talk, they "Volunteered" for the Zents, he "earned" a Mark of Bane (permanent black leopard head), he fought in Vasaa, on his way back again to a newly acquired keep, his party heard of a Red Dragon in the region , started the Quest for Dragon Mountain, he fell to one of Lord Cavious' treacherous slaying arrowS. I like to think I always played him like a cornered animal, bent on survival, never killing out of excess, only if he felt HIS life was in danger. He did manage to earn 2 real friends, even though he had a head of a black panther  Psst!: To learn more about this character you can click here: Shameless plug to my other post! (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=206466) :fight!: [edit: Vb Errors] |
| Pegeyepete03-25-04, 03:31 AM | My most evil character was back in 2nd edition. I was playing a Cleric of Auril who's loyalty lay with his goddess first and foremost and anyone who could help forward his plans second. Our group was mostly good and they kept me around because although I wasn't a nice guy I wasn't what they considered dangerous. In the end they were really unprepared for how evil I could be. While exploring the ruins of Myth Drannor I slowly began spreading dissent among the team. With a simple turn of a phrase I soon had them all distrusting eachother. Then by splitting them up I managed to incapacitate every individual member and leave the ruins with their shares of the loot. I tried not to kill the ones I had no personal grudge against, but I did orchestrate situations for them from which their options were basically hide in a chamber and starve to death or make a dangerous run out of Myth Drannor. In the end none of them survived anyways. All this put me up high enough for followers and by 2nd edition rules I got a lot of them. I marched all of them up in the mountains and let the elements do their worst. Out of many followers (I think over 70) maybe a dozen survived the storms I summoned. These few chosen of Auril were granted the honor to aid me in the building of my temple. |
| gRuDzZiE03-29-04, 07:15 PM | Well Ophélie Maldorovna is a lvl 11 (6wiz/5mindbender) who simply LOVES using her skills to make other people work for her or simply make their lives miserable  . She confused the Bane Cleric so she would make her way in "winiing" a castle (which she DID!) and right now there'S a blackguard who simply adores Bane with her and she is planing on speaking into his head, imitating his dead wife voice to make him go nutz  She does not care much for others, she HATES Bane's freak, she swore if she died and got reserected she would lighting bolt herself ;) She is using evocation as her favorite school. She knows she can control people but if anything goes wrong, she won't hesitate to cast her way out of a tough situation. :schemes: I simply love that character! I don't want her to die :( One day I'll fly away and use her leadership feat to rule over all! :cloud9: |
| Lanoitakude03-30-04, 01:14 AM | My two most memorable evil characters would have to be Ryoma Kuburei, Psion 6/Shadow Mind 5 and Darkwing Duck, Fighter 7/Master Thrower 4. Ryoma specialized in Telepathy, exclusively on mind-effecting powers. He was a dominating character, but loved to amuse himself by making people under his control lay face down on the ground in his presence. The rest of my party feared him, because they didn't have very good will saves. Darkwing Duck is a randomly-sadistic fighter who specialized in darts. The party walked into his room at an inn to find he "redecorated". There was blood covering the walls, human skins laying around, and heads on pikes. The thing is he acts COMPLETELY NORMAL most of the time. His most memorable act was killing a random peasant, sticking his head on a pike, then wearing his feat like shoes. (don't ask, this campaign was played around midnight, we got crazy). Darkwing was really fun to play, because of how he would make the rest of the party go "WHAT!? O MY LORD! WHAT IS HE DOING!?" all the time. I hope that helps...evil can be fun. |
| Unleash03-30-04, 12:43 PM | "Honeyed words did he speak, yet in its sheath, poison did a serrated dagger weep, Drippily drip, boy, did it seep!" :b: -Sikeres Fortuné Born in Palischuk, in the barren and inhospitable land of Vasaa, Sikeres is a bastard offpsring of an unknown soldier of Darmshall. Twenty five years ago, a soldier stayed in the town's vicinity long enough for his company to drive-off orc invaders, and long enough for him to father a child on a random chilly winter night. Problem is, Sikeres' mother was an outcast even before giving birth to a father-less child. Such is the fate of women of ill-repute, in a town that's desperately trying to lure in additional respectable citizens. His mother always tried to keep her livelihood a secret to him. Her daily routine consisted of distracting her child with small pranks and jokes before he left for school. She had to work at home... Thus, it's not until he was near adulthood that Sikeres found out how she earned a living. Surprisingly, the day he did, he was not as devasted as she thought he would be. Even afterwards, he kept on smiling, he kept on shrugging his peers cruel teasing and rejections, even though he knew now that they had always been right. But deep down, an ardent taste for revenge was fostering. Revenge first against the people that mistreated him, then revenge against the men who visited his mother, and finally, revenge against the whole community of Palischuk. For he had progressively reasoned that everyone around them were to blame for his mother's fate. Sikeres inherited his mother's good looks, her wits and her charm and none of his father's combat abilities...but that hidden part of him that has randomly and subtly manipulated, sabotaged and ruined the lives around him during the past few years, that's his own tainted creation. One fateful day, an armored stranger bearing marks of a strange religious symbol of black antlers on a red field entoned a speech. He unsuccessfully tried to rally citizens to his theological cause, but Sikeres was to find his vocation. The ominous man was soon lapidated by his angried listeners and fell grievely wounded. He laid strewn on the cold ground, left to die like a wounded animal. Intrigued by this character, Sikeres waited for nightfall, removed the man's unholy symbol, and dragged him to his house, where his mother promptly tended to the stranger's wound. After all, there must be a bound of solidarity between gentle, misunderstood outcasts, right ? What alignement is this lvl 1 cleric of Beshaba? :) P.S. A :cookie: to whoever finds out from which FR book Sikeres' poem was inspired from :D . |
