| Llochlyn04-20-07, 07:39 AM | (pronunced Talsen, written in french up there) brother thread in Character optimization (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=832308) Here is his french background, and a translation : French is pale, English is dark "Tout est question de pas. Le bon pas, au bon moment, bien choregraphier chacun de nos gestes pour parvenir à l'harmonie voulue, sur l'instrument, sur la piste de danse, ou en politique, tout ce que nous faisons, nous le faisons en rythmes et en accords." "All of it is a matter of steps. Right step at the right time, a precise choregraphy of every move to reach the desired harmony, with an instrument, on a dance floor or in politics. Whatever we do, we do it in rythm and chords (accord also means "agreement" in french). "Lorsque l'on me demande pourquoi, moi, barde, conteur, amuseur, je ne joue pas de musique, j'emmene le questionneur sur les quais du port de Sharn. Je lui fais ecouter le leger ressac et le cliquetis des coques de navires et lui dis "Si vous etes capable de trouver un être dont la musique égale en beauté et en perfection cette harmonie, je veux Ítre son premier disciple"." "When I'm asked why, I, as a bard and storyteller, don't play music, I take the asker on Sharn's docks. I have him listen the dim surf and the jangle of the hulls, then say "If you're ever able to find a being whose music equals this harmony in it's beauty and perfection, sign me in as its first disciple" "Il n'a pas bon gout ce nobliau qui m'a engagé pour égayer sa cour, me reclamant des paillardises et des danses traditionneles d'Eldeen. Je pense faire en sorte de lui montrer comment bien se comporter en société, je ne saurais Ítre le bouffon d'un bouffon !" "He's ill tasted, this petty noble who hired me to enliven his court, requiring coarse songs and vulgar traditional dances. I think I will show him how to behave in good society. I shall not be a bufoon's buffoon." "On dirait ce soir que les cieux ont des bleus" "The skies look bruised tonight" "Au service de l'héritier de Galifar, en voilà une destinée interessante. Depuis que les affaires de mon précedent employeur ont fortuitement périclité, l'ordinaire n'est pas facile. Et n'oublions pas ce dÈtail ; l'on ma indiquÈ que je n'aimerais pas l'idée de refuser." "At the service of Galifar's heir, that should be an interesting destiny. Since my previous patron's matters have fortuitously collapsed, the everyday has proved difficult. And, let's not forget this detail : I was advised that I didn't liked the idea of a refusal" (I'm not sure it appears as well as in french, but the collapse is hinted to be Thalsène's work) "La corrosion des moeurs, la fonte des coeurs" "The morals corrode, the hearts melt down" "Un limier, le plus fin traqueur de tout Sharn, et c'est à moi que revient le privilège d'héberger cet être extraordinaire. Un chasseur, aux sens affutés par la magie, à l'éducation plus irréprochable que tous ceux de sa lignée. Bref, on m'a attribué un chien." "A bloodhound, Sharn's finest tracker, and I was granted the privilege to harbour this extraordinary being. A hunter, is senses made keen by magic, whose education's faultlessness is beyond all of his bloodline. Shortly : I now have a dog." Select extracts from Thalsène's Journal. His name is derived from Taliesin (radiant brow), the famous celtic bard, and "greekised". 'Thal' can also be found in "Thalassa", often associated with sea, and "sene" means "to feel". Thus, he will be pale skinned, bright haired, and his eyes will have a greenish color, matching the sea's. (Eberron half elves are good sailors, that fits nice.) As far as RP go, he differs from your stereotypical bard by not being a lady's man, not being a finesse monkey. He's straight, a "get what I want" man. As you can see through the journal, he does not sing. He uses "oratory" during battle, so I can avoid the awkwardness of singing while fencing, but rather encourage the troups and give tactical information. His other perform, as it appears, again, in the journal, is dance. First, it's used for snowflake wardance, second, dancing through a battlefield shows the self confidence he has. And he has a lot of it. Third, as a "jet set" character, attending balls is an important part of his work for the dark lanterns. He's a leader, and would show the strength of a tsunami in fight and politics. Except his love for the sea, and maybe some control freak complex, I don't have many RP quirks for him, any idea ? Thanks for reading. |
| Aaarrrgh04-22-07, 02:25 PM | A nice quirk could be to write a short poem dedicated to each enemy he kills, write it down, and leave it whit the enemy's remains, so that anyone who finds the body will know what happened. And, considering what you wrote about self confidence, he could start writing the poem during the actual battle. "So, your name is Will? (*block*) Perfect! Then the second (*stab*) line can end with "kill"! I wish more (*evade*) people had names like that. (*cut*) But, two lines is a little short (*block*) for a poem... Do you always fight (*slash*) whit an axe, or do you use any other weapons?..." (I think I'm going to put this in the Character Quirk thread) |
| Llochlyn04-22-07, 03:32 PM | Wow, that's just huge ! I can totally see that ! Consider it yoinked =) |
| Aaarrrgh04-22-07, 04:07 PM | Oh, that's OK... Glad I could help! |
| Sang-Drax04-22-07, 10:25 PM | Maybe you could add some compulsive-obsessive disorder. Poets tend to be eccentrics ;) |
| Terjon of the Blue Rose04-23-07, 03:16 AM | Sounds like a Norse skald. Focus your attentions on the most effective combatant but don't be afraid of the aid another action in combat. Boast your own abilities and those of your allies but also praise your enemies who show strength. |
