I came up with a NPC for my current campaign and have been working on their personality and from what it looks like they are well Chaotic Good with Lawful Evil tendancies.

All they do when ever they get the chance is lay around and do other low energy activities like fishing, napping, sleeping, eating and stair at the sky. All they are intersted is a nice quiet life on their small island Located about 1/2 mile off shore of a tropical bay area. They are an Expert Fisherman, Builder and Sailor. They are 15 years old.

There life is going pritty accourding to plan until the PCs and their companion wash up on his beach after a storm. After he finds out About the BBEG from the PCs and the threat its presents to his fishing and relaxing, and is good gooder nature kicks in he desides that he will go with the PCs (I didnt plan on him going with them but they made good diplomatic checks and used a preswasive argument) so he grabs his gear and now they have a brand new party member.

He is a Expert 2/Rouge 1. His Base stats are:
Str: 14
Dex: 12
Con: 10
Int: 12
Wis: 13
Cha: 15

He fights with a Virbroblade (cross between long sword and katana. 1d10 + 1 Master Work +2 Str).

I have so far had is character be so layed back even in the most dire situations (encluding the Dire Shark attack lol) but I want him to slow change not completly mind you into a evil mercyless bastered. I dont want him just to become one and stay that way forever but just have somthing make him that way for a while and then go back to normal right after like a Docter Jeckal, Mr. Hide thing. I am woundering what though could make him do this. I am planing on the PCs finding a hamlet of massicared epople with 1 messed up serviver pritty soon and am thinking of haveing that cause him to get all insane for a while. It should be pritty easy consitering the evilness level of my BBEG but i dont want it to seem corny. I also want the PCs not discourage his ruthless killing behavior and am hoping they care about him (or feel guilty for bringing him) enouph to try and stop him from doing the insane things. I have been talking with one of the players in my group (without giving anything away) and they said that they would keeping stop him from killing people the way he wants to by force if needed (Paladin played properly). That is good but it also might cause intra-group fighting. Any plot ideas you can give me that other than the dead village that couse cause this other wise cool headed layed back guy to go evil insane so I have some differnt ways it can happen if my PCs derail my plot and give up on going were their boat was haeded befroe they sink it in the storm. Any other tips on how to have his character evolve?

This is the Party:

Jonatan da Miti parardin oov Tom (Johnathan the Mighty Paladin of Torm) Human Paladin lv 2 (I can't help but lauph at the way the player says his name)

I recomend that he start by doing slightly questionable things for a good cause (like using poison to kill a foe, or other dishonorable tactics), and gradually making them more questionable (framing villains for crimes, sacrificing good/neutral people without their consent in the name of fighting evil etc.)

So for a long time it will seem as though he is good with not so good methods. But after a while he will develop double standards, a disdain for lower level NPCs, and a general belief that the individual life is cheap.

Or maybe if you don't want to him to be really evil per se, you could just have him show an incredible detachment to the suffering of others, sort of halfway between desensitization and being a sociopath.

BTW, do have any idea who said the rose quote in your sig? I always liked it but I have no idea where it comes from.
