Stormbrand 12-12-06, 01:02 PM	A fighter character who will hopefully become a blackguard, I would like interesting ways to make him downright scary. Scary, not gross, not disgusting. Scary. There are also a number of things I want to incorporate into his backstory. - Something about a military background, with access to excellent training (a war college or something similar) and deserved rank (he is not a novice). - He means to destroy a city. Why? A reason to seek revenge. A good enough reason to devote so much time and effort to revenge (nothing childish or trivial), while still fair and just behaviour on the part of the city (the ruler is a paladin-priestess). - Responsibility. My character is on his way towards becoming a blackguard, so he can hardly be an innocent victim. - Possible accomplishments in his military career. Any thoughts would be appreciated. If anyone can think of interesting ways to portray the characters evil as well that would be great. Thanks.

All that has been detailed is an isolated city which oppresses magic tyrranically - a police state, near enough to martial law. Some rough troll territory where a rather intelligent troll chief is attempting to unite the troll bands. And the LG city itself, which the paladin-priestess has made thrive through her leadership and benevolence (this is the city I will be destroying)

AllWillFall2Me 12-17-06, 07:10 PM	Maybe this: His father was a criminal of some kind, who killed his mother in a blind rage. The character grew up only knowing his father, but his father was caught and slain resisting arrest when the character was young. The character was put into an orphanage, and enrolled in the army, he channels his anger and despair over his loss of his father into battle, but always keeps it repressed. A very cold individual. He recently was informed that his father was slain by the law (He thought it was an accident, criminals did it,etc.) This was the straw that broke the camel's back. He is now very seriously flawed mentally, constantly plotting the down fall of his home city. He is a renowned warrior and leader, because he refuses to retreat from a battlefield, enduring beyond all rational hopes. His cold fury drives him to overcome all obstacles. Just thank the Gods he hasn't needed to handle civilian prisoners... Just an idea.
