For my latest charecter, I've decided to play a paranoied rogue who is allways in disguise. I've already thought of alternate Identeties and props for each. So, my question is, how do I change identeties without the other players knowing?

Thanks ahead of time.

It should be fairly easy to keep the other players' characters in the dark, but eventually the other players are gonna find out. Unless the rogue slips off from the group, reintroduces himself everytime he has a new disguise, etc. Basically, it'll take some luck.

Around the game table, you can't.

Unless you somehow convince them that the DM has allowed you to play more than one character, and you can thus make them believe that each character is different from your ROGUE. Then only you and the DM would know the truth.

Other alternative is to let the DM roleplay your character's alternate identities, under your discreet supervision. Not much fun, is it?

Well, I've been thinking about it and I'd hardly say that it's impossable. There's always, the all powerful "DM Note." (Disguise result: 22, Identity: Daric) Not to mention the ever populer, "I kill the commoner and then put my disguise on him, so that I can play a 'new' charecter." Well thanks for the help with my first try at a rogue. You can guess what I usualy play.

Do you mean, everytime you feel like changing your disguies, you would kill someone and place your 'current' disguise on them, allowing you to be someone else/new in the party?

If so this IS possible to do, but again, you and the DM would have to work something out, the players you will be playing with are going to figure it out eventually, even if their characters don't, and that is the point that was being made.

The DM and you should work closely on this, but only a fool would allow and joe schmoe into a party every time an old member dies. You might find after a while that those party members would say 'Though we enjoy the company of others, during our adventures, we seem to work better as a group of 3, rather than 4. Sorry friend, good luck on your quests'.

Just a heads up.

This seems like a simple matter of making sure that the other players don't metagame. If their PCs fail their spot checks, then they are left in the dark.

You know, you're quite right, I don't need them to be in the dark about a secret identity. I just need them to keep them in the dark about which one is the real one, if any.
