| Kethka08-06-03, 11:42 PM | Okay, the title of this thread is somewhat misleading... (Read: I am *not* playing a mute bard) But I am playing a bard, and my problem is this: My bard is particularly irritating in that he loves to play music and sing ballads constantly (More often than not he'll sing originals... Unfortunately, his wisdom is 8, so sometimes they are about accomplishments he takes too much credit for or things that my party members would rather not be sung to a tavern ;) ) But my question is this, as a character who revolves around his music, it seems somewhat... dissapointing to just say "I sing a song" and roll a perform check. I'd really love to get some music from somewhere so that I could play it when I perform, giving my music a touch of realism. Unfortunately, I have no clue where to get any such music... I have "Green Sleeves" but that's it, so if anyone knows any good sites for this sort of thing, or the name of a musician I can look up, I would be very grateful. (Though I would prefer music without words, if possible) P.S. I play a lute, if it's any help. |

Or will you be using an mp3 player with some speakers? Anyway, I can recommend some guitar players. Look up William Ackerman, Michael Hedges, Alex De Grassi, and Sean Harkness. You can hear clips of their work on amazon.com. Ackerman's the smoother, lighter side of guitar (good for calming and charming and things like that), Hedges is more fiery (for morale boosts and such). |
| Tzor08-07-03, 10:01 AM | There is something ironic in the title and in your comment. Although this is not commonly realized in D&D, the lute is not exactly known as being a "loud" instrument. Peter Schickele once commented that if the lute is simply in the same room with another instrument you can't hear it. (Of course that was in his introduction to a piece that included among other things a lute and a bagpipe.) Doing a quick google I came across a few possible sites. http://www.yatesguitar.com/lute/lute.html http://www.unisi.it/ricerca/ist/anc_hist/midi/midi.htm |

| Domni Dalrose08-07-03, 03:35 PM | Don't forget you could cast the 0 level bard spell "Percussion" to acompany your bard's flute :D It's 5 mins per level and fills "..the immediate area with the sounds of drums, chimes, and other percussive instruments. The music can range from the gentle tapping of a single tom-tom tot he thunder of a squad of drummers. " *Taken from Song and Silence If you used this, you would have a wider variety of mp3's to use :) |

| Kethka08-07-03, 10:57 PM | I would sieze the opportunity to inflict some karaoke pain upon your party. Oh, but I do! :smirk: Also, my bard is excessively long-winded and over-dramatic... Just today, in the time it took him to say his long, drawn-out good-bye to his pseudo-love Lilly (The party was going into an enemy fortress to retrieve their horses which were inside and he wanted her to remain out of danger), the rest of the party went on without him and came back with the horses just as he finished :D Oh, and sometimes when he talks for too long, one of the party members hits him to make him shut up :( |

The lute is a cool instrumant for sure but I can't think of any music for it, apart from the already mentioned Green sleeves, I'm doing a google search now though...*Computing* http://www.geocities.com/Vienna/Strasse/4824/lute.html Theres one |
