Me and my friends give our characters themesongs that fit the character

in our current campaign we have

Minority by Green day: my rogue
Great pretender by Queen: my rogue's cohort
I'll tumble for you: my friend's soldier
Mr. Roboto: my other friend's ghostwalker
What would you do: the bard
I cant remember any of the others

The Rolling Stones, She's so Cold- Liadan, druid of the Frozen North
Theivery Corporation, Lebanese Blonde- Arashel, Calimshite Dancing Dervish
Tiny Tim, Living in the Sunlight, Loving in the Moonlight-Squeaky, my halfling rogue

In one of our previous campaign I played a bard and made a lot of variations of existing songs. Some of them were about fellow partymembers.
- Fighter (tune of thunderstruck, ac/dc)
- Sorcerer (tune of passenger, Iggy Pop)
- Steek een halfling in je reet en draai hem rond (tune of If you're happy and you know it), this is in Dutch, if you translate it it's 'Stick a halfling up your arse and spin it around'. This was one of my more succesfull songs.

nice avatar Saihtam

Theivery Corporation is perfect for mostly anyone from Calimshite

i love Living in the Sunlight, Loving in the Moonlight

i find that rock-opera and power-rock bands like AC/DC and Queen work well for character and party themesongs

I think themesongs are important because they help you remember who your character is, and they help other people understand who they are better too

alot of my characters are inspired by songs, but not the rogue, he was inspired by Moe from The Simpsons

one character i had, a whisper gnome rogue/psion, his theme song was Shadow by Burden Brothers... he enjoyed hunting mages, seeing as that what he was trained to do, though he did become friends with one very powerful mage.

Well it wasn't really a themesong, but for an NPC heroic halfling bard who got killed, I had an elf bard sing "Turn the Page" (with some minor changes) for his funeral. Big hit with the metal fan, considering Metallica had just covered it.

Hmmmm... soooo many of my characters have theme music, yet most of my D&D characters don't. So let's see what I can pull out of my... errr, sleeve. :D

For Akiji, my Fighter/Rogue (mostly Rogue)-- Headstrong, by Trapt. If you ever were to game with me while I was playing her, you'd understand why. ;)

For Cetrinh, my Dwarven Cleric-- errr... I dunno. Most likely something by Creed. She had a rather large number of issues to work out, among them getting turned into a Dwelf... yay identity crisis! :D

For Violet, my Aasimar Sorceress/*cough* 'Woman of loose virtue' (:P)-- gotta go with some Jimi Hendrix here-- Foxy Lady, what else? ;)

For Lucia, who hasn't been through a whole lot of D&D campaigning because it felt awkward playing a character originally intended for written fiction, but has been through a LOT throughout said fiction-- Cry Little Sister, by Sisters of Mercy. I dunno why. It just suits her. :)

And I've cranked up 'Chop Suey!' for just about all of my characters at some point or another... quite a bit of System of a Down that I like, actually, but just about all of my characters have their 'Chop Suey!' moments. Poor them. :P
General_Ridley

well, and sado-masochist character could use the song Needles by System of a Down.

My white dragon was stuck with Barney's "I love you..." song because he was a slave, and the party wanted to have some fun with him.

I have been thinking about playing an Ellan paladin that is on a quest to find out whether or not he has a soul. A good themesong for him would probably be the cover to "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" done by Guns N' Roses.

I also played a werewolf diletente in a friends D20 Past Shadow Stalkers campaign. His themesong is naturally "Werewolves of London" by Warren Zevon

In reponse to this thread i've stuck some music to my character, thanks for the idea :lightbulb

after a long time deciding,

Linkin Park- Faint

The characters in my Sig.

the death toll for people turning their back on my character just keeps going up

For my typical Human barbarian (low int, wis & cha, high str and con) I'll go with something heavy and violent:

Slayer- War Ensemble :D
Brute 217

05-15-05, 10:25 PM
My half orc fighter's theme song would have to be Let the Bodies Hit the Floor by Drowning Pool. He had a falchion, imporved critical, Improved Cleave and more Orc blood then he would care to admit. :D

Dangit, I made this thread in reverse a while ago. On this forum too. But search is down. We'd choose songs and then make up characters for them.

Huh... sounds fun? Wanna start it back up? I figure we can combine the two here?

You can post a themesong for an existing character, post a challenge song, or answer a challenge song... Sound good?

I'll start up, and I'll give whoever answers two choices, to boot.

First:
<Students>
What's the buzz
Tell me what's a-happening

<Leader>
Why should you want to know?
Don't you mind about the future
Don't you try to think ahead
Save tomorrow for tomorrow
Think about today instead
I could give you facts and figures
I could give you plans and forecasts
Even tell you where I'm going

<Students>
When do we
Ride unto <city>?

<Leader>
Why should you want to know
Why are you obsessed with fighting
Times and fates you can't defy?
If you knew the path we're riding
You'd understand it less than I.

Or:

UNDER THE BRIDGE

Sometimes I feel like I don't have a partner
Sometimes I feel like my only friend
its the city I live in, the city of angels
As lonely as i am, together we cry

I drive on her streets cause she's my companion
I walk through her hills cause she knows who I am
She sees my good deeds and she kisses me windy
I never worry, now that is a lie

I don’t ever wanna feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way I don’t ever wanna feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way, yea yea yea

It's hard to believe that there's nobody out there
It's hard believe that I'm all alone
At least I have her love the city, she loves me
Lonely as I am, together we cry

And I don’t ever wanna feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way
And I don’t ever wanna feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way yea yea ye-yea
Oh no no no
Yea ye-yea
Love me I say yea ye-yea

*Chorus sings*
Is where I drew some blood
*Chorus sings*
I could not get enough
*Chorus sings*
Forgot about my love
*Chorus sings*
I gave my life away

(Bonus points if you can say what the first is from, and who the second.)
Harrow Blade

05-19-05, 12:54 AM
the second song is from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. i tend to think that it may be the song for a drepressed cleric of Illmater or Loviatar (pardon the spelling) but I got nothing on the first
HiQKid

05-19-05, 09:48 PM
Heh, if you believe what most people say, most D&D players wouldn't know the first one.

For the first, I would think some kind of sorcerer(divination)/sybil, or a seer of some sort, that everbody's always asking for fortune telling and such, but he's seen things that... scare him?
UMiskatonic

05-20-05, 12:23 PM
The first is from the musical Jesus Christ Superstar, which has surprisingly good music for a Broadway show.

Last two theme songs I used were a cover of Danzig's 13, by Johnny Cash, and a remixed theme to Monday Night Football, with a dance beat.

For a warforged character (couldn't help myself):

Black Sabbath: Iron Man - Think about it; a warforged walks to the stage looking a little bit robotic (something like the Terminator) and the only sound is the metallic sound of his heavy feet. Then he opens his mouth and you hear: "I am Iron Man...". :mymy: :rimshot:
Helmed Horror

05-21-05, 11:27 AM
Darin The Holy Liberator --- Neil Young - Keep on Rockin In the Free World :D
Jao Ling The Drunk Master --- Barenaked Ladies - Alcohol

here is one I havent played but still seems appropriate.

Hound Archon --- Led Zepplin - Black Dog

This is one of my favorite things to do. None of my characters are considered "In-Depth" until they have theme music and I even come up with themes for stuff that happens to them and occasinally I pick a fight song. I took this a step further with Jace, My hard-rocking, Guitar playing, Song singing. dueling Swashbuckler. He comes up with songs for EVERYTHING and its turned into a game for me to come up with the best themes for different stuff and the better I do the more Bonus XP I get. WOOT!

Fenix Naito, Elf Wizard/Argent Savent: Million Miles Away, Offspring. Fight song: Anyone for Doo, Powerman 5000

Jace Garret, Human Swashbuckler/Duelist: Turn the Page, Metallica and Whereever I may Roam, Metallica. Hes got oddles more. Song about a werewolf they fought: Bark at the Moon, Ozzy Ozbourne. Even themes for the rest of the party.

I picked a theme for Hextor once.

For my human ranger, Cora: "Pilgrim" by Enya.

Cora's a peasant girl who would rather explore the world than stay home and start a family.

Lyrics:Pilgrim how you journey, on the road you chose
To find out why the winds die, and where the stories go
All days come from one day, that much you must know
You cannot change what's over, but only where you go

One way leads to diamonds, one way leads to gold
Another leads you only to everything you're told
In your heart you wonder which of these is true
The road that leads to nowhere, the road that leads to you

Will you find the answer, in all you say and do?
Will you find the answer in you?

Each heart is a pilgrim, each one wants to know
The reason why the winds die, and where the stories go
Pilgrim, in your journey you may travel far
For pilgrim, it's a long way to find out who you are

Pilgrim, it's a long way to find out who you are

For my halfling bard, Talla - Vanessa Mae's "Devil's Trill". Mad electric violin skills, yo.

The Gnoll Barbarian, Rustjaw, has two themes. One Instrumental, the other vocal.. the first is Rusted Root's "Drum Trip" - Though Stomps' "New York Trashcans" works as well. For vocals... Stratovarius' "Kill the King", without a doubt.

So far none of my characters have had theme songs, I usually don't think that far ahead. Though I suddenly have a strange urge to make a character whose theme song is One Winged Angel by Nobuo Uematsu. Yay FFVII!

05-25-05, 10:33 AM
errrg ok for my sig character Ravlinn Runehammer dwarven cleric id have to choose "blood and fire" by Type O Negative because he was a semi brooding type of character who was somewhat tortured by the fact that his wife was human.

for my friends halfling thief id choose Offsprings "self esteem" just because the poor halfling allways got used lol

For my Tiefling Rogue - Inertiatic ESP, The Mars Volta
Crazy and almost undecipherable, so it fits his past very nicely.

I was always fond of variations of The Hall of the Mountain King. My current favorite version is the one done by Apocalyptica which definately has a much more heavy-metal tint to it. I would probably tie this to Dwarven Barbarians or Earth-Based Sorcerers...

For My Bard/Paladin-Cara Al Sol

(Translated from spanish)
Facing the sun in my new shirt
that you embroidered in red yesterday,
I will wear it to my death
if I do not return to you.

I take my place alongside my comrades
who stand on guard in the heavens,
with a hard countenance,
they are alive in my fervor.

If they say to you that I fell,
know that I did what I had to.

Noril Seaon (My CN rogue/warlock) [This is kind of unofficial, and needs setting specific adjustment...]:

Come out Virginia, don't let me wait
You Catholic girls start much too late
But sooner or later it comes down to fate
I might as well be the one

They showed you a statue, told you to pray
They built you a temple and locked you away
But they never told you the price that you pay
For things that you might have done.....
Only the good die young
Thats what i said
Only the good die young

You might have heard I run with a dangerous crowd
We ain't too pretty we ain't too proud
We might be laughing a bit too loud
But that never hurt no one

So come on Virginia show me a sign
Send up a signal I'll throw you the line
The stained-glass curtain you're hiding behind
Never lets in the sun
Darlin' only the good die young
I tell ya
Only the good die young

You got a nice white dress and a party on your confirmation
You got a brand new soul,
And a cross of gold
But Virginia they didn't give you quite enough information
You didn't count on me
When you were counting on your rosary

They say there's a heaven for those who will wait
Some say it's better but I say it ain't
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints
The Sinners are much more fun...

You know that only the good die young
I tell ya
Only the good die young

You say your mother told you all that I could give you was a reputation
She never cared for me
But did she ever say a prayer for me?

Come out, come out, come out Virgina dont let me wait,
You catholic girls start much too late
Sooner or later it comes down to fate
I might as well be the one,
You know that only the good die young

And here I thought I was the only one doing this:

Silaqui / Inué / Quarlani (n/e elf rogue planing to be a spy and changing names like socks)
"Good n'evil" from Jeckyll and Hyde

Good and evil
And their merits -
Men have argued through history -
As well they should!
My philosophy
Any child can see -
"Good is evil -
And therefore
All evil is good"

How do you tell evil from good?
Evil does well - good not so good!
Evil's the one that is free everywhere -
Good is the one that they sell!
You must decide which is heaven -
Which is hell!

Good maintain evil's a curse! -
But it is plain good's even worse!
Evil's the one that they tell you to shun -
Good is the one to embrace
Say that and Satan will laugh right in your face!

The battle between good and evil
Goes back to the start -
Adam and Eve and the apple tore Eden apart!
The key thing about good 'n' evil -
Each man has to choose! -
Heaven 'n' hell
Is a helluva gamble to lose! -
But as I peruse
This world we abuse -
It's hell that we choose -
And heaven must lose!

Evil is everywhere -
Good doesn't have a prayer!
Good is commendable -
Evil's dependable!
Evil is viable
Good's unreliable!
Good may be thankable!
Evil is bankable!

Evil's for me - you can have good!
Doesn't suit me to be Robin Hood!
S'easier by far, from the way that things are,
To remain good 'n' evil
Than try to be evil and good!

Skadi (n/c tiefling cleric/rogue)
"The world is not enough" from Garbage

I know how to hurt
I know how to heal
I know what to show
And what to conceal
I know when to talk
And I know when to touch
No one ever died from wanting too much

The world is not enough
But it is such a perfect place to start, my love
And if you’re strong enough
Together we can take the world apart, my love

People like us
Know how to survive
There’s no point in living
If you can’t feel alife
We know when to kiss
And we know when to kill
If we can’t have it all
Then nobody will

Oh man, I wish I'd kept up with this thread. Awesome!

I'm currently building a Changeling Warmage for a game, a spy/saboteur type, who infiltrates via disguise and blows stuff up. Think "Enter base. Take flag. Kill everybody." Tex-style from Red vs. Blue. He probably won't be the last of my changeling characters to use Secret Agent Man (Blues Traveler version) (http://www.seeklyrics.com/lyrics/Blues-Traveler/Secret-Agent-Man.html) as his theme.

Anyone got any good hip hop/rap theme characters? I'm listening to the soundtrack from Samurai Champloo and there's so much wicked stuff in there. Like Battlecry by Nujabes (http://www.animelyrics.com/anime/champloo/battlecry.htm). Recently got hold of a lot of Jedi Mind Tricks too.

For Marlus, my elven Bard/Wizard: All'improvviso Amore by Josh Groban
Whenever I hear that song, I could swear I hear him singing it! ... Except that Marlus doesn't speak Italian. :P

For Endri, my human Rogue: Bring Me to Life by Evanescence
She's got a lot of mental issues she's working on right now.

For Zaknolin, my thoroughly insane, homocidal drow Fighter: pretty much anything by Disturbed, especially Down With the Sickness and The Game.
Yeah... He's pretty messed up.

Oops, my mistake... Thanks for correcting!

The main suspect on the Bodom-case is the guy who survived the massacre. He was suspected all the time, but they couldn't prove him guilty. Now DNA-tests seem to show that he is behind the killings. I guess we'll never find out what REALLY happened that silent night 45 years ago...maybe it was the scythe-wielding, cloaked guy! :plotting:

I've done that too :P

Twice in fact, one for an epic D&D campaign that took the characters from level 1 to about level 35, and ended with the party facing off against a demon so powerful that the gods themselves feared him.

The second time was an equally epic Werewolf campaign that started in 1999 with the destruction of the Demon of India and the appearance of the Red Star, and continued on to the Last Battle of the Apocalypse in 2004.

For any good aligned chara with Leadership: The NFL theme song.
It'll invoke a sense of pride, power and give anyone that inner fire to get the job done. Play it inside your head and you'll get the idea.

If the party is about to attempt an high-risk infiltrate & rescue op: 'I need a hero' from Shrek 2.
Haven't checked the movie's soundtrack cd, but if the song was lifted straight from the movie it'll have the same effect as the NFL song.

For the happy-go-lucky character (or a Kender - ANY Kender): The title song from Super Mario World for the SNES
It's perfect for the terminally cherrful & the blissfully ignorant.

Half-elf wizard/alienist: Super Freak by Rick James

Half-elf enchanter specialty wizard/mind-bender: Complicated Girl by The Bangles

Aasimar Cleric of Pelor: Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves. What else were you expecting? Besides when the DM listens to metal it makes it that much funnier.

Gratz to any who can find a character which ties in a Blondie themesong

While not theme music for a character, I find that most anything by Pantera is excellent for heavy combat scenes and the like(battlefield, arena combat, ect.)

Therion works as well, particularly they albumn "Secret of the Runes" It has a very epic feel to it, sounding something like a cross between Black Metal and Opera.

Theme songs are AWESOME, people think I am weird that I make theme songs for my characters, so lets first start with Reivas

Reivas has the honor of having one my favorite songs as a theme song
Behemoth- Sculpting the Throne of Seth

1. Sculpting The Throne Ov Seth

[music and lyrics by Nergal; opening acoustic theme by Seth]

come forth!
from the void beyond the stars
from the blackened shores Thee arrive
Thou art ov gods
yet supreme above them all
Thou art mocked and blessed

speak ov me not as one
speak ov me not as none
speak ov me not at all
for I am continual

crowned and conquering child
cast aside the prophets and false gods ov Thy ways
from the outer space
when TONUAL cross NAGUAL
beyond becoming, Thou hast become...

speak ov me not as one
speak ov me not as none
speak ov me not at all
for I am continual

let me reign as a god among slaves!

spirit clad in gold
Seraphs incarnate
shake loose the shackles ov a million years
children ov Seth
blast wide the portals
unveil the raptures
ov Thy kingdom

speak ov me not as one
speak ov me not as none
speak ov me not at all
for I am continual

let me reign as a god among slaves!

Io Khepesh!
Io Nubti!
Io Akhakh!
Io Simai!

For my Warmage/ Blood Magus Akron, I have another awesome song

Behemoth - The Reign of Shemsu-Hor
10. The Reign Ov Shemsu-Hor

[music and lyrics by Nergal]

[Chapter I: The forbidden legacy ov a fallen race]

[instrumental]

[Chapter II: Invocation ov the watch gods]

O Mighty Watcher!
Thou art all and all art in Thee
free me from mortals
intoxicate with Thy self love
O Mighty Sentinel!
Thou art the concious one
break the monotony ov existence
that I may illuminate!

uncrowned in Tarterean Sulphur
elder than the Memphian kings
Thy reign so timeless and infinite
ever silent watchers, whom mankind yet aches to embrace
grand me Thy Promethean rays
blacker than light...
cunquering lion-headed god
by the name ov Legion dost Thou arrive

[lead: Nergal]

Thou hast seen the prophets in the desert
Thou hast bled for the fallen idols from beyond
prevailing stregth hath made Thee greater
than the god...
from amongst the million dead angels army
Azazel, begotten not ov human race
honour the divinity vision ov victorious sun
open wide your glimmering eyes
bathe in divinity ov loneliness
empowered in self creation
shine inward!
Shemyaza! the profoundest one
spread Thy wings
the desolate one
Thy disease untamed within the sinister self...

O Mighty Watcher!
Thou art all and all art in Thee
free me from mortals
intoxicate with Thy self love
O Mighty Sentinel!
Thou art the concious one
break the monotony ov existence
that I may illuminate!

[lead: Seth]

[Chapter III: The splendorous return]

beyond all cowardness!
hast Thou no fear?
spit out the blasphemy!
strive unto sin...

seduce Thyself
o mighty seer!
the ancient voyager
blind me with light

the sleepless ones
in aimless andering
Thou must first fall
to reign in blasphemy...

And for my Psion Inferno I have another Behemoth song

Conquer All

[music and lyrics by Nergal]

Mightiest Self!
cast out ov Thy Elysium
with blood ov nazarene
I write the story ov man
2000 years is nothing
thought it has been enough
come forth victorious
muting the foul angelic choirs!

none ov thy empty gods, shall ever stand above me
none ov thy weak brothers, shalt ever share my blood
my awareness, catalyst, ov godhate I have spawned
in sinister ecstasy eternally I decompose

race ov man!
the errors ov a wise make The rules
ye shall see
rather than the perfection ov the fool
the most divine!
I am many! among so very few
beyond redemption, beyond the weak
thus I beheld the truth!

none ov thy empty gods, shall ever stand above me
none ov thy weak brothers, shalt ever share my blood
my awareness, catalyst, ov godhate I have spawned
in sinister ecstasy eternally I'm decomposed

[lead: Nergal]

I am the pure flame that burns
I am (ever shining) Sirius son
I am the infinite space
I am the most conquering One

[B]yes I am a HUGE death metal fan.

Theme songs I may use:

Hikari no Willpower
Intro theme from MMZ2: That Desert Level.

Rival themes I definately will use:

North Wind
Ultra Violet
Maverick Hunter Zero

Because face it. The rival theme songs are where the real fun is. Yeah, yeah, all of these songs are already taken. What are you going to do about it.

For my current Aasimar Knight 3/Cleric 4 of Helm:
Tears for a Moonlit Knight, by Israfel (it's a remix of a game theme).
No words to it, instrumental only - tends towards melancholy, but determined and powerful in its own way.

My previous character, a Moon Elf Rogue 2/Wizard 6:
1000 Miles, Vanessa Carlton.
Odd choice, but literally everything he did during his time (died in a duel, unfortunately) he'd done to try and search down his spouse and daughter. Literally walked one thousand miles so he could see them one last time.
