I originally posted this in the "Classes" forum with little response. I'm hoping I would have better luck here as I'd love to hear some great stories!

Rogues are great classes to play. I'm wondering what stories people have for the things they've done as rogues. What plans and schemes have you come up with to get ahead.

To start it off, here's one that I've done.

I'm at level 3. I've been staying at a posh Inn in town impersonating a nobleman. When the rooms beside me where unoccuppied, I disabled the locks (late one night) and made it so that I could enter the rooms when I please and so that the locks still work with the keys originally meant for them. I developed a good relationship with the concierge (sp?) so that he unwillingly would tell me through conversation when a wealthy noble would shack up in one of the rooms beside me. When it happened, I would disguise myself as an Inn employee (in case I was spotted and had to leave in a hurry), quickly open the door to there room while they where sleeping, poison them so that they would remain unconsious and rob them. I would know when they were sleeping because I drilled tiny peep holes in the walls sharing my room that would be difficult to discover unless someone was specifically looking for them. Before leaving the room I would leave a tear of cloth from an employee uniform on the floor to deflect suspicion. Then, I skip town in the middle of the night if I felt any heat or checked out unassuming in the morning. Simple, yet effective.

I left out some minor details that helped ensure my success, but you get the jist. I'd love to hear some other stories. So please, share them!

At one point, my rogue sabotaged a castle being built with 100 feathers- Quaal's Feather Token (tree)s. Here's how it worked...
While the castle was being built, he would slip the occasional feather in between the stones. If asked, he would explain that he did it as a superstition, for good luck.
Imagine their surprise when oak trees exploded out of every castle wall, completely destroying the entire place!

right, because building a castle is just a quick 6-month contract to fill in the winter months sort of thing.

seriously, your character would've had to wait around years to complete that.

Well, it wasn't so much a castle as a keep. And it only takes so many strategically-placed oak trees to destroy a stone wall- he was there for the final year of construction.

And in the D&D world it is generally assumed (according to the stonghold builder's guide) that people will use magic when constructing castles (to a varying degree), which allows them to be completed much faster than they would be if they were built IRL, using traditional methods.

But anyway, my last rogue was a barbarian/rogue/fated (I don't remember the numbers, but he was about level 10-14). He had been sent by his country (country A) to try and convince another country (country B) to not make a move that would allow it to control most of the continent (basically everything but country A). This was complicated by two things: firstly I was originally from country B, but had committed treason (selling secrets to country A), so I wore a disguise (hat of disguise). Second, country B had no intention of letting us get near their monarch (or anyone of any importance), and they had us arrested on trumped up murder charges (we disabled an assassin who turned out to be the son of a major noble).

So, we faked our own deaths, escaped, and I began to sow the seeds of their destruction. I duped an LG party member (who had not yet joined us until after we escaped from prison), into giving the king of country B's son (Prince 1) a dagger with a very dinstictive design. Now, prince 1 was about to marry a foreign princess (a marriage I wanted to prevent for political reasons), so I then stole the dagger, disguised myself as prince 1 and murdered the king in front of a witness (whom I disabled with Alchemical Sleep Gas moments later). Next I assumed the guise of the second prince (prince 2), and kidnapped prince 1's future bride (again, there was a witness).

Then I fled to my island castle and waited for the fun to begin. My castle was lade siege to, but that isn't important (it was 2-3 PCs against countless zombies [we actually didn't count them], a horde of barbezu, a vampire and a lich). After barely winning the day I went back to the main land to discover that I had started a World War that was dramatically altering the campaign map. Then, I assumed another disguise, rescued the princess from myself, and returned her to her own country for a handsome cash reward. After this the **** hit the fan, and I was taken down by agents of country A, who didn't like what I had done with the world.

Such is the tale of Grogneo Benevicci Laroche (Grog for short). Oh yeah, when he was still in prison, he once rolled a natural 20 on an intimidate check (for a total of about 45), and I managed to make the warden cook me a pizza.

Well my rogue, after our party was almost tricked into destorying their home town, snuck into the kings castle to have a talk with the king. Made all my move scielnt checks, picked the lock on the kings bed chamber, guard inside was asleep. Used my sap to make sure he wouldn't awake and then drew my sword and placed it at the kings throat and woke him up. Had a talk with the king and my character didn't hear what he wanted to hear and slew the king. Everyone was like UMMMMMMMMM, even the DM. Went back and told the party that everything was taken care of and that we should leave town, now.. (had a paladin in group and didn't want him to know what I did) We high tailed it out of the kingdom. We found out later the king was resurrected and I had the whole of that kingdom after me.

Got this idea from reading posts here.

Finding an abandoned house, changing the locks, forging the deed to said house. Then selling the house to several people and have them all show up on the same day to move in and making sure long gone with the money.
