I'm currently playing a Gloura bard in a FR game going through the City of the Spider Queen Adventure.

Usually starting at first level I have no problems coming up with a lil history and motives for a character. But we started at 10th level.

All I have is she's a gloura (from FR Underdark book, human sized winged underground faeries who get bard abilities naturally) and a bard. Prestige class I considered Sublime Chord, but the fact of the matter is, I need a background. I need ideas on why she adventures.

Here's a lil about her:

She doesn't like to fight in melee. She dresses skimpely because well, with her bonuses she needs virtually nothing but rings and bracers for armor. Her ac is insane with no gear as are her saves, especially with a cloak of resistance on.

She has silver grey skin, black hair and eyes.

Other than that, I'm lost. No ideas for a background, no goals nothing.

Anyone able to help me out here?

Thanks in advance,

Bill

Maybe your character could be compelled to join parties with lost groups in the underdark. In the past, she has joined countless expeditions in order to help them navigate what is familiar to her and help them out with whatever they may need.

She is a masterful, cheery storyteller, whom knows of all the deeds of all the people who she has helped in the past, which includes some figures of great renown.

As a character, she joins together with a certain group of people (the current party) and finds herself unnaturally attached to these people. She just knows something great will come of them, and can't seem to leave them for wanting to see what happens next.

Her primary motive is, in short, to help others.

Her primary history is, in short, the helping of others.

Reason for Bardic abilities: Helpful to allies, can recall tales of past expeditions.

Hope this helps! By no means is it done, but it could be a start.

It could be that she is occasionally smitten with wanderlust and intense curiousity. She simply can't help herself. Especially with regards to things from "up there".

As an additional quirk, she could be a compulsive collector of "up there things". Little bits of mismatched clothing from above ground societies, a "stamp" collection of heraldic devices from "up there" (this is perfectly in line with the Bardic Knowledge ability and the Knowledge (nobility & royalty) skill), maybe even some odd "dangly trinkets" (wind chimes).

The short version is that she can't sit still in one place for long due to her severe case of curiosity.

A great quote/retort for the "curiousity killed the cat" phrase.
- "Ah, but satisfaction brought her back!"

Hope that helps!
