I want to play a tiefling that people wont automatically assume is evil and spawned from the hells.

To set it up, the characters physical traits of his demonic heritage are thus-
-Goat like legs (along with the hooves)
-A pair of horns that start at the front of his head and curve backward, then down and under and poke out forward.

Basically he looks like a Satyr.

This lad is going to run around pretending he is a satyr, a magical creature of the forest. I think ill play him like a satyr too, hedonistic, mostly concerned with carnal pleasures (sex, food, drink etc)

To keep the illusion going that he is a satyr, ill have him play the pipes.

How does this character sound? To clique?

and what class do you think? Bard? Or possibly a druid? If i took both id probably go into Fochlucan Lyrist (but change the string instrument to pipes)

Any thoughts?

I like the idea a lot. In fact I'll go out and say that I pretty much think most of the character idea threads you post are gold. But in answer to your post..

He may still cause just as many, if not more, heads to turn as a satyr walking around a city than a tiefling who could probably simply hide most of his fiendish features.

I would probably let his darker side manifest itself in ways slightly more more sinister than carnal pleasures (though of course I would still play that as a prominent feature of tha character). Even if he is masquerading as a satyr, he shouldn't be exactly like one. He's masquerading as a satyr to make people think he isn't necessarily evil, but why? Evil guys can still enjoy all those carnal pleasures easily. In fact, last I checked, girls are still more attracted to the bad boys than the good and I doubt many bars or brothels employ paladins and do-gooders as bouncers to cast detect evil on the patrons. And I think appearing as a satyr may even make it more difficult than looking like your south of moral as you try to seduce those pretty young girls.

Many good points!

A question first though... Why is it that satyrs are known as very sexual beings? Its like Ensjak said, its not like theyd be getting many girls with those legs and horns. (Although i could be mistaken:yuck:)

Unless of course... you take the whole "Charm Person" and "Suggestion" spells into account, and a whole lot of ranks in Bluff and Diplomacy.

I think he would pretend to be a Satyr because he knows that fey are more readily accept than hell spawn. He would tell the party of his true heritage... eventually, but leave it a secret in regards to most npc's.

This character would be very much about the now, more so than about the past or the future, putting aside both if they give him an immediate gain.

Sounds like he would be an interesting character in a scoundrel game.

Wonder what would happen if he ever ran into a real Satyr... that could be an interesting scene :P

Now my memory of greek mythology is a little rusty at this point, but I believe the following isn't too far from the mark.

I think according to greek mythology, satyrs often chased the wood nymphs who usually weren't attracted to the satyrs and had to be caught. Satyrs would take part in bacchanals (big drunken revelries) along with the women who worshipped Dionysus (who was a god of earth and the vine). At these revelries, there would be a lot of drunkenness and one thing leads to another, and, well, you know.

I'd rather have dinner with a hellspawned demon rather than a piping jungle goat, but maybe that's just me

Whips and Chains vs. an eighth and (a few more than) a couple of pints...I'll go with the booze and drugs thanks, goat-legs or no! (...mind you, those whips and chains could be mighty tempting...)
