Hi all :) .

I'm pretty new to actually playing in Faerun, though I have read a decent amount of FR books. My favorite diety is Shar in this setting, so I'd like to be one of her clerics. I have a back ground story tumbling around in my head and motivation for this character to interact and travel with the party. Any suggestions for a playing such a role though would be realyl appreciated :) .

I'm generally a rogue/sorc in the planescape setting, so FR is kinda off to me :) .

Here is the basic background and motivation for him. His name is Szeva, a human male.

Szeva is NE. Neutral in that his cause is his own, and evil in that he has no illusions that holding back means anything other than failure. Morality only gets in the way, and for all intents and purposes is a crutch to hide behind cowardice to do what is neccessary.

Szeva lost his family to a group of paladins who captured them under the pretense that his wife and daughter were in communion with dark gods. He was imprisoned for interrogation and his family was burned at the steak by the villagers when the paladins left the town to report to their garrison command. For three years his only company in his black cell were the memories of his daughter's screams as the flames licked away her flesh.

In his pain and utterly alone, he willed his anguish into the black void that was his world. Finally, a cold and emotionless peace settled into his heart. A new town councile convened and released him from the town dungeon. His property had been siezed by the town councilmen so they payed for him to spend a night in the local inn. That night, he prayed to the profound darkness he now felt was his only solace. He pledged his soul to its mysteries.

He fell to sleep still on his knees, hands clasped in his lap. A woman of cold, impersonal beauty came to him in his dreams. She imbued into him the knowledge that creation was abhorrent. The light and life he saw were aborrations and thus could never be truly at peace. The void was where things belonged. His voice into the perfect dark was not lost and if he proved himself suffeciently sincere, he would know true peace.

He awoke with a new hatred seething in his heart. Those self righteous hippocrits paraded around with a delusional masquerade of good intentions were only fooling themselves. They couldn't face the fact that they mean nothing. They embraced ideals attempting to be something greater than themselves, and at the same time acted in contrary to those beliefs thinking nothing was watching them. They were wrong..She saw them. She saw them all. He cut into his arm, offering his blood and everything he was to Her.

"Take what you will of me. I give all that I ever was, am, and will be to you. Only the void can ever promise real peace." The blood dripped to the floor and formed a circle. Its center blackened and decayed wood.

The next evening, he broke into townhall and found the records of his family's trial. He scanned the witness testimonials and knew them to be lies. All night he spent reading scrolls and reports on those who bore false witness against him and his family. A picture formed of the real reasons for his suffering. Apperently a silver vein was discovered close to his farm land, and he knew the nature of greed.

Weeks he masked his true intention, and appeared to be genuinly grateful for the chance to live free of a witches influence. He was known as a pillar of the community for some time. Then he began his mission. He would drop hints at first, very subtlely, of the corruption behind prominent figures of the town. Councilmen, mercheants, and guildsmen all had skeletons in their closet. Bit by bit he would use those skeletons against them to pit friend against friend and brother against brother. He never revealed what he knew, but the possability that someone, anyone, could know the truth spurred many into reckless action to protect themselves. Murder and strife became common place in a once peaceful town.

Szeva reveled in piercing people's self made illusions. His dreams and faith guided him through his mission. In 2 years, he brought the town to total ruin. To this day, only a large chard patch remains of the place he once called home.

He let whisperring darkness guide him to the arms of Shar. An acolyte of her mysteries came to him, and initiated him into her embrace. Now, a full cleric of Shar, he travels to Waterdeep to under the orders of his High Priestess.
