| Zyfax06-14-05, 04:14 PM | ok, here's the story. I found a feat somewhere that allowed for an additional familiar, and I thought it would be cool to have two. then I got the idea of having two improved familiars, and got the idea of them hating each other. so, it's a quasit and a custom mini-angel. LG/CE. I myself am TN, and a battle sorcerer. The reason for posting this, is because I can't really find a mindset to go for for the character himself, since he is partly going to be bossed around by his two consciences. I'd love to post the entire backstory, but it's in swedish, and I'm too lazy to translate. One thing I am adamant on is that he is going to have severe difficulties to make up his mind and well...decide. this makes for an interesting setup, but a rather boring character to play (since both familiars are going to be "rented" out to other players so I don't have to roleplay three things at once). any ideas? /Zyfax |

I don't think it would make for a dull character, afterall he could simply help a female out of a ditch(angel wins) only to toss her back in if she refuses to pay(devil wins). Similarly he could let someone drown while making up his mind, only to rescue the now-dead-victim anyway. Chaos guaranteed! Be sure to listen to the players playing the familiars, your decisions should solely be based on their arguments, not Out of Game-knowledge. |
| Zyfax06-15-05, 07:27 AM | that was the plan. but that wasn't my problem really. as it stands now, I have a passive role, and give my friends all the fun. it's not something I really wish for, so when it doesn't come to important decision making, I need some...well, quirks. It's rather boring renting out the fun of a character, but I can't play three things at once. especially not when they argue. |
| Need_A_Life06-15-05, 03:00 PM | Mind sending me a copy of the background; I'm danish so swedish isn't hard at all. I'd love to give it a read (read: school just ended and I have nothing to do), and give you some feedback. Personally I would go for the demon/celestial roaches presented in Order of the Stick (http://www.giantitp.com), which are basically just for comic relief but still serious enough that I am looking for an LA... They're Chaotic Naughty and Nervous Good, respectively. They're so weak that you could probably get them without improved familiar (and if your DM is nice they'll give you a +3 bonus on Perform (humor) checks, each)... but I'm a sucker for comedy. I still mean the part about the background, though. Regards, Need_A_Life |

| Morka06-16-05, 01:54 PM | Play the three characters. Most often, you will be playing the sorcerer. Whenever you feel you should say something dirty & evil, take the quasit's voice. Then take the angel voice and snap yourself behing the head. Or whenever you see an injustice, take the angel voice and say that it should be fixed, only to have the quasit saying at which point it should be boring... |

Or whenever you see an injustice, take the angel voice and say that it should be fixed, only to have the quasit saying at which point it should be boring... my original idea. stopped by the DM. in fact, I'd love to, but can't. I even trained in the voices before it got stopped. raspy, creaking, suggestive voice for the quasit, motherly, holier-than-thou voice from the angel and a sad and desperate voice from me. Well, considering the advice he'll be getting play him as the classical sniffling madman. One that predicts what will happen before it will. Muttering to yourself looking cross-eyed at strangers, picking a fight with authority...that sort of thing. Good ideas. the predicting bit is certainly usable. divination spells might be it. I have practically zero spells known, but whatever, it isn't made for being strictly combat oriented. I'd love to have a desrespectful, fight-picking attitude, but that wouldn't bode well for the character... and Need_A_Life... thanks for reading through my background. |
| Need_A_Life06-17-05, 08:26 AM | and Need_A_Life... thanks for reading through my background. You're welcome, it was well worth it. How about having (imaginary?) creatures instead of actual creatures? I know it won't work just as well, but a mental disorder could handle it and it'd even be a character concept worth something on its own. Or have a pet rock. Just because. |
| Zyfax06-17-05, 08:34 AM | well, the idea is to have them real. they can stay invisible and fly and everything, so it'll work. if they were only imaginary, it would be the insane asylum after a couple'o sessions for him. as for the pet rock... well, good idea and everything, but in an earlier campaign a player PLAYED a pet rock. it was psionic. This group is filled with veteran players with crazy ideas. the previous DM loved that rock, but me and the now current dm actually tried to devise spells to kill him. we didn't like that rock. it would only bring back bad memories, but it was a great idea. EDIT: I play in two groups. one is the main one, relaxed, and way tooo big. this one is small, but filled with veterans. |
