| Schiz06-05-07, 06:01 AM | have you ever had that your writing your story, completly in the element of writing and that when you read it afterward it's not completly presenting what you wanted to represent? i'm in that situation at the moment. a long time ago i made a character but lost the story (so i thought). i still wanted to play that character and thus i made a new story. but this new story makes him look like he has no values. it's not like i disagree with the story, i just know it's not finished yet. he needs some values that make him look like a nicer person. a quick summary of the new story: whole story (.doc file) (http://giedre.schiz.nl/Mickeys_Story2.doc) - his father is a lying salesman and his mom always cheats on her husband. always being used to lyers around him, he knows how to use his words in such a way that people believe him no matter what he says. he becomes this fake psychic with tarot cards and makes his fortune tellings came true through disguise and forgery. - he is a master of deception through body movement and words (sleight of hand, feint, bluff, diplomacy, forgery, disguise) - at lvl 4 he finds his real magic within him(instaid of magic card tricks and 'psychic' readings') and becomes a beguiler. And the old story = link to forum post (http://boards1.wizards.com/wotc_archive/index.php/t-645741) the mayor difference between the 2 stories is that in the old one he does most of his lying, forgery and deception to help people (and himself). in the new story it feels like he known he's lying and is ripping people of and doesn't care about it. could anyone help me with a nice idea how to make him look a bit nicer and friendlier towards his surroundings? |
| Ensjak06-05-07, 07:55 PM | That actually sounds somewhat familiar to the television show Psyched. In it, the main character just has a photographic memory and uses it to fool people into thinking he's a psychic. Then he gets the police to pay him as a psychic consultant and works on hard to solve cases. I don't know if that helps or hinders or has any effect whatsoever on your line of thinking. |
| CrimsonDeath06-05-07, 10:28 PM | As I understand, the guy from Psych initially tried to go to the police with the truth, but they thought he "knew too much" and considered him a suspect. So, he started using the "psychic" angle so he could help with their investigations without implicating himself. (Note, however, that I've never watched the show...) |
| Schiz06-06-07, 10:24 AM | a womens touch can sometimes create some nice inspirations: 1. the fortune teller he saw when he was young: she was a fake too and he fell 'in love' with her. a nice reason to travel and find her. 2. he likes art and respects people who perform or have mastered the art of certain professions. this will give him reasons to have value for people and not fall on the path of evil. he also sees his own forgery and disguise as an art 3. he came into contact with art through his father who loved art. his father took him to artists... this will give him connections and reason for his gather information skills. anyone else any ideas? |
| Terjon of the Blue Rose06-07-07, 01:06 AM | Alright haven't yet read the files. I'll try to get to that later but I see a point you might like. Fortune tellers see people at their most vulnerable. People go to fortune tellers and spend money they don't have because they need to believe something (or perhaps in something) not because they do. Perhaps your character has been helping to make only some of his predictions become true. Hiding evidence on a person (sleight of hand and forgery) such as a letter that indicates forgiveness from a lost loved one or revealing hidden truths (bluff) which indicate that someone you love really did love you back but never had the strength to confess such. I'll read the actual files when I get a chance. |
| Schiz06-07-07, 07:37 AM | @Terjon: i must say.... that is a magnificent idea. with other stories i came up with i've been able to turn my character around into being this helpfull, do gooder, compasionate.....lyer. summary of my new twist on the story: the fortune teller he met was a fake as well. she used her skills to help people have a better view on life. by helping them with their personal problems and brightening up their days, she inspired people in villages to make a better world. my character loves artists of all sort. he respected the specialization people put into their work and sometimes he envyed them. after meeting this fortune teller and finding out how she did it he saw her as the artist of lying and he would follow her in her footsteps more ideas are still welcome as i'd like to make this character as rich(in storyline) as possible |
| Keira06-11-07, 10:02 PM | I'll try. It all comes down to your parents, they had such a miserable life together, you vowed that you would always use your "gifts" to help people find their soul mates and. While you were training in your chosen profession, the beautiful fortune teller disappeared moved on the way a gypsy would. You've now not only devoted your life to helping others, but you also want to find your own true love the fortune teller. In the brief time you knew her, you know she had an appreciation for all of the arts, you happened to pick up on that appreciation as well. It makes you closer somehow to her. Every town you go to you find all of the artists and loosely admire their work, while gathering information on the fortune teller. You've also been able to help out some of the local politicians with your skills. You're making quite a name for yourself as matchmaker. Since you have quite a knack for matchmaking you can make a really good living from it. There are lonely people in every town... |
