| Mr_Seth09-08-07, 04:17 PM | So... I'm bored at work... I brought a few dice... and I have an hour to kill. Sounds like it's time to toss together a new character! Let's see if I can get this fella together before the next remote starts. Stat rolls... 12/17/13/13/12/14. Wow. That's a pretty tight grouping... all just above average, one high stat. Race... gnome. It's been a while since I've rolled a gnome, and with their status unconfirmed in 4e, I wanna show as much support for the lil' guys as I can. Class... now we get tricky. I have one good roll, and with the gnome race, wizard is kind of a no-brainer. But I'm not in the mood for an arcane caster... no, I'm leaning towards druid. So the final stats are going to be: STR: 10. He's not going to be especially melee oriented. DEX: 12. Nothing special. CON: 15. He's not strong, but he's wiry... he had to be to survive winter in the woods. INT: 14. Somehow, I think that he had some proper schooling before he ran off to the wilderness. WIS: 17. Was there any doubt? A natural-born philosopher, very aware of what goes on about him. CHA: 13. A shade above average, but living in the wilds have made him a touch rough about the edges. Also, he smells of guano. Skills... he's maxed out his Survival, Knowledge (nature), Listen, and Handle Animal... two skill ranks each in Concentration, Ride, Swim, and Spot. Animal companion... mmm... camel is tempting. Especially in a non-desert campaign, just to be out of the ordinary... but I'll go for riding dog instead. Makes it easier to get around, especially with those stubby little legs. His name is Alonzo, and he's fuzzy. Yes he is. Feat choice... while there are better choices out there, I'm going for Toughness. I like the idea that he's a survivor, someone who has been through a lot, and he's able to take a lot more punishment than you'd guess. Right, that takes care of the broad strokes. Now for the fine detailing. As I said, this fella started off life in civilization proper. Granted, his town was out of the way, but it was a decent sized settlement, and he had a comfortable life. He always spent more time outside the city walls than in, something that worried his mother to no end, but he had to see his animal buddies... or some such. Hm~ Methinks that I can come back to his childhood later. Some things are best left undefined, after all. He joined the druids from a profound desire to keep the pristine wilds that he enjoyed so much as a youth there for those that would come after him. He found them... well, far more ruthless than he'd imagined. But he thrived off the conditions. His fondest hope is to become more animal than gnome - because animals don't lie. They don't cheat... with an animal, you know where you stand. ...Aaand we have our first allusion to childhood events... not too shabby. Habits... right... well, he has an extremely hard time sleeping under a roof. If he can't feel the wind and see the stars, he just feels too restless. That's not to say it won't happen, but it'll take him a good long while. He acts a bit like a dog, or a wolf or some such, cocking his head at the slightest odd noise. Fascinated by smells. Magic - here's the rub. He loves divine magic, considering it one of the purest functions of the natural world, but most arcanists rub him the wrong way. Blasters, illusionists, necromancers... he just doesn't like them. The only ones he has a chance of getting along with are abjurers ("Magic that breaks other magic... you can't argue with it!") and transmuters, specifically conjurers ("Hm... I wonder if I can find a way to summon a blink dog like that..."). He's typically a little suspicious of magic items, but it depends on just what the item is supposed to do. Well, that's a little bit scatterbrained, but with 15 minutes until the remote starts, I've got a decent grasp of my character. All I need now is a name... And it's Coddrick. Coddrick "Fleabite" Mornshrew. |

Named Fergus Coonmask, because he had birthmarks around his eyes shaped like raccoon's markings. Anyway, I think instead of a riding dog for an animal companion, perhaps a gnome would bond better with, say, a badger? Not only do I think they have a gnomish connection, but you would be able to communicate with it at least once a day without using up a spell slot, thanks to your gnome ability. One gnome I played, if it gives you a clue, was called Borin Ratchatter. On the other hand, if he has urban origins, a dog might well be probable. |
