| Radijs02-16-07, 06:34 PM | Basically a draft for a possible backup character in an ongoing campaign. I wanted to try something new again. This is what came to mind: Any comments and suggestions are always welcome. Specifically I'm looking for some feedback on the part about the Sarcossan empire. The DM probably took most of it from the Legend of the Five rings but I know next to nothing about it. Physical description: Naoko is very thin. You could go as far as calling her gaunt. She has the tell-tale black hair, black eyes, tanned skin and almond-shaped eyes of a Sarcossan (Think Rokugan or Japanese). The skin on her left arm is almost all scar tissue. Probably a serious burn wound she suffered from not too long ago. She's clothed in a garb that is barely more then rags from the wear of them. She doesn't walk as much as she skulks, instinctively making herself small and unnoticable. Toturi Naoko is of royal blood, though she doesn't know it. She spent most of her life as a street urchin on the streets in Castillania scraping and stealing what she could to stay alive. This is what the fickle finger of fate decided some five years ago. First daughter of the reigning emperor Naoko was meant to grow up and be educated in the imperial palace and when she would come of age be married off to some powerful lord of some kind. But during a daring raid she was captured at age five and taken away by bandits. What their intentions where never became clear, at least not to Naoko. They sold her to slave traders and by the time the sun of the next day rose she was in a cage, on a ship headed for unkown shores. The next years of Naoko's life where not pleasant to say the least. The slavers beat her or whipped her regularly teaching her to be submissive. She was quickly sold to a brothel to be forced to work as a soiled dove. And this would have been her life had fate not intervened again. A fire broke out and despite being burned badly on one arm Naoko fled into the streets. Even the streets aren't good to little children. Naoko had to grow up quickly or die from starvation. She begged and she stole to keep herself alive but thankfully she survived. Personality: Sarcossans are by default smaller and weaker of frame then the average Castillian and Naoko was no exception. This meant that she had to run away most of her life and keep quiet. When trouble seems to appear her first instinct is to run away or hide. When she is found by the party it will probably be unlikely she'll even speak at all. |

| Radijs03-25-07, 06:06 PM | I think I'm allowed to :bump: this thread. No comments whatsoever? |
| Xenu03-25-07, 06:24 PM | What kind of character is she? Rogue level 1? What are your thoughts on her future development? How is she supposed to interact with the other characters? Is she at all capable of trusting other people? If so, is she likely to go for the other extreme, quickly adopting her as her new parents and family? also, have you seen the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit season 8 episode called "Cage"? The one about foster care. Might be good inspiration. :-) |
| fullmetal8011003-25-07, 11:42 PM | Only one problem I can see combat wise, if her first instinct is to run and hide the other party members might get ticked that you ducked behind the barrel during the fight. Also... What motivation would the party have (In-game) to take a child with them on their "quests"? |
| CrimsonDeath03-26-07, 03:52 AM | Well, for one thing, it could be that she learns to overcome her impulse to hide. Alternatively, if she's supposed to be a rogue or ninja, her instinct to hide could be very useful if, once she's calmed down, she starts sneak attacking/sudden striking. |
| Radijs03-26-07, 04:36 PM | The campaign starts at ECL 10 so its going to be a bit hard playing her indeed in the equivalent of a lvl 1 character. But I think its going to be a nice idea to not use many of her class abilities until she becomes more sure of her self over time. As far as her deveopment, Its going to depend a lot on what will happen in the campaign. It can either be that she will eventually live up to her birthright. Or she will throw her birthright away and become a free spirit. Interaction with the other characters can go two ways as I see it. If they treat her nicely then she could very well bond with her new "family" very quickly. But if they should harm her its not likely that she will forget or forgive. Why the party should accept her has a twofold reason. One, some people in the party are nice enough that they might want to protect her and help her. The other part is that she is the first daughter of the emperor of a large and wealthy nation. Bringing her back would yield a kings ransom. But that would mean making her presentable, aka teaching her the language, proper manners and everything required to pass her off as a princess. Which again is roleplay. |
