I am going to play a wizard in an upcoming campaign, and I want to play a transmuter or an illusionist. However, I don't know which to chose, as I have never played either. Another otions is to take the changeling substitution levels from ROE and get both, but I felt that would limit getting too powerful in either. However, I do like the ability. Any suggestions are appreaciated!

PS. Please do not post builds, just tell me the best option.

Well, you have some choices to make on style and flavour (I assume, since you're here rather than CO.)

A transmutist could be sort of a 'mad scientist,' uncontent with the shape or nature of anything. Constantly working, building, rebuilding thier little pet projects.

An illusionist could be bored with reality, enjoying making bright patterns and complex designs. They could be a prankster, a joker.
