I'm about to join up with a Star Wars D20 group.. but I can't seem to get a grip onto what type of charecter I want to play. Normally charecter concept work is easy for me, but right now I'm drawing a blank. It's a rebellion era game, but I want to try a force using charecter, as I've been playing non force users for awhile now. Whats a good way to try and intergrate a force adept or force sensitive into this type of campaign? Whats a good motivation for me?

off the top of my head...

there is the steriotypical jedi-in-hiding from the empire concept.
(obi-wan, yoda)

the up-and-coming jedi
(luke)

if you dont want a steriotype or jedi...

if you have the rebellion era sorcebook, there is a jedi-like group of force users in there that are really cool. They are called "the Kilian rangers" and are native to the isolated system of kilia.
they dont have a lot of reason to leave the planet, and are sworn to defend it, but there are ways...

anyway, they are symalir to the jedi in beliefs and goals, with a very chivalrous nature. they wield siang lances instead of lightsabers (ancient sporting blaster rifles with bayonets attached to the stock (bayonet deals 1d8 damage) the use them one handed and carry shield gauntlets on their off hands (+1 o defense) and can use lightsaber use feats to do the same deflections and such that jedi use thier lightsabers for.

they typically are force adepts and power their bayonets with the force.

it should be noted that siang lances are practically holy avengers, as there are only a few and they are only given and used by active rangers.

if you dont like that, i say go for the less ordinary like the witches of dathomir or the shaman class combo from star wars gamer.

as to your actual question (sorry bout that)
most force users in the rebellion era are either working for the empire, or running/hiding from it. i am personally drawn to the fallen jedi archetype wereas the character was a jedi until the empire began, and then gave up on that and went on to some other career, smuggling or bounty hunting, perhaps this character might find his way back to being a jedi for the good of the galaxy, with lots of inner turmoil along the way.

how about a force user who doesnt know they are force sensitive? during the rebellion era, people are forgetting about the jedi and the force, or dont believe in it. "don't try to frighten us with your sorcerer's ways, lord vader, your sad devotion to that ancient religion......" so he/she might not even know about it, and they are plagued by wierd dreams, or occasionally have premonitions "i have a bad feeling about this..."

the old weg vesion of the game had a wanna be version of the jedi as a template. it was force sensitive, but not trained, carrying around a sword "i sense a disturbance in the force...no, really, i realy do this time!"

hope that helps, good luck

You could play a force adept that's a wilderness survivalist. In D&D terms, you could play him almost like a ranger in his tracking ability. If you want to make a good tracker, make a Gotal (race found in Alien Anthology) force adept.
