I think this is the right thread to post this question bu tif not please tell me so i can move it. My Character just died in a game where the rest of the party is a LN pale-master, LE half-dragon fighter, and a NE half-dragon fighter. We where playing it as we where a mercanay group and would work for anyone who could pay us. Now i need to make a new character to fit in the game. Now i need help finding a good race and class that would make a good mercanary and i would like it to be a caster of some sort, preferably not a wizard or sorc. So if anyone has any ideas please help me.

If you want to stick with the evil theme of your party, maybe an evil favored soul? Cleric is another possibility, but evil clerics spontaneously inflict, rather than cure, so a favored soul might be better at healing since an evil favored soul can spontaneously cast cure (and other) spells.

Alternatively, maybe a rogue/assassin?

The party seems to be lacking somewhat in a few areas, from what i can tell (without knowing the exact classes) your lacking a rogue and a divine type character.

For any sort of merc type character, i would probably suggest, a scout, ranger, spell theif, rogue, cleric, warmage... heck even a bard (arcane or divine)

As for the race, really it goes to how you want to play, a exiled dwarf (or to step away from the norm, make it a gnome or a halfling) who now wanders around selling his skills to anyone who can afford them. An elf who needs earn enough coin for some project or something.

You seem to have the 2 giant fighters though, so might i suggest going the opposite direction? something like an evil pixie rogue/assassian for instance, to work off of JulesCARV's idea.

Hope this helps.

Well the character that i had that died was a warmage so i wanted to play something else. The assassin may fit in the group but i have one of those right now in another group so i would rather not play another one of those. I was considering a pixie spell thief but i will have to roleplay it joining the party so i have to make a character that the other characters will welcome into the group and since they where just betrayed by some people working with them they are extra careful on who they will trust. I was wondering if there is a good full caster that that is good at utility and has some healing that is not a cleric and fits in flavor wise as a mercanary. Bard would probaly not be a good idea cause they where just betrayed by one of those and as the characters have been roleplayed so far they will not be trusting any bards for a while.

Well i think i will try out the Archivist from the Heros of Horror book. I was wanting to play as a sun elf now my problem is that I need to come up with a good background but i am haveing writers block so no ideas are coming to me. Anyone have any ideas that i can expand on for a background?

you were aspiring to become a priest of that... elven.. god.. corel latheron.. or however you spell it... head of all elven gods.

Anyway, you didnt want to become one of his followers to help other, you wanted to become one to obtain power, status and wealth. The god looked into your heart and saw your true intentions, so barred you from becoming one of his divine servants.

Outraged that you were rejected (and quite publically, since the god informed his other followers of your intent) you left your home city and travelled. You came across an dwarf who you thought was a mage, though he was casting divine spells that were usually only accessable to elves (or another race or whatever... point is.. your guy recognised that something was up.)

Asking the dwarf (or whatever he/she was) if he followed another races god, he just laughed and told your character that he didnt need to follow a god to gain access to divine powers.

The dwarf told your character a little about the ways of becomming a archivist, then left him. Your character then learnt the way himself and began studying divine texts from all faiths and all regions.

Well thats all i got atm.

This would be a pretty evil character (thought it would fit with the evil merc party... instead of gold this guy could be tempted by offerings of holy tablets or scrolls.), possible that he/she even goes back to his old temple and just takes all their holy texts to spite them for not allowing him to join.

Hope this helps.
