I am planning on doing a tutorial at A-Kon 16 in Dallas and I decided to not use the characters from the basic game, or the story of the basic game itself.

I decided on a quick adventure, "A Dark and Stormy Night" (http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20050329a) where you cannot retreat to the inn after every room.

I have created four characters to make a party, and have recorded the stats for three (You won't see them here) using the so-called "Elite stats" from the DMG.

They are Cobsy, a Half-Orc Fighter; Glypnire, a Kobold Rogue; Milton, the Human Cleric; and Talia, the Human Sorcerer.

Prepare for a long post.

Cosby, the Half-orc Fighter.

Cosby was born through forbidden love between a human man and a woman Orc. However, the Orcs learned of this betrayal and slew his mother soon after he was born, leaving him in the care of his father. Cosby had a difficult time fitting in to society due to his odd features. However, he knew that he had great strength and began to train himself to use it to its fullest. He now seeks to prove himself as a capable individual. Cosby is Chaotic Good, meaning he follows Justice and Peace, but not zealously. Cosby is the fighter of the party, charging into battle to help protect his allies. He uses his Greataxe to sunder his foes.

Glypnire, the Kobold Rogue.

Glypnire was trained from birth to be a scout to explore new areas for the Kobolds. She was the right-hand man of the leader of a group of Kobolds. One time, her group was exploring some ruins when they were attacked by an Ogre. The group thought they were ready for something like this, but the Ogre had an unusual amount of power for a member of its race. Glypnire was told to go get help. She ran and came across the other three adventurers. The others were naturally distrusting of Kobolds. Glypnire had to grovel and gave her word that she would repay the favor if they would help her. Milton believed these words to be genuine, and followed. The party went and drove away the ogre, able to save about half of the party. Glypnire was grateful and joined the group. Kobolds, contrary to popular opinion, are good at keeping their word; they just never give promises too often. Glypnire is Lawful Neutral, meaning she believes in organization, but is neither good nor evil. Glypnire is the sneaky member of the party who can scout ahead and sneak up on foes to use her sneak attack. She can also open locks and disable traps. Glypnire is good with her long spear, which lets her attack from a distance and trip up enemies safely.

Milton, the Human Cleric of Pelor.

Milton found his calling early, joining the priesthood of the sun god Pelor when he was thirteen. He began a pilgrimage across all the lands about a year ago. It was not long before Milton found Cosby, someone who was obviously trying to reach out for help. Cosby joined Milton on his journey, whose company was welcomed. Milton later found Talia, a woman who had been ostracized from her community for her strange abilities. Milton knew this woman needed help, and offered to take her along with him. Later, while in some ruins, Milton was pleaded to for help by a Kobold names Glypnire. He couldn't turn her down, so he went and helped. Glypnire then joined the party out of gratitude. Milton is Lawful good, meaning he deeply respects order and goodness, as expressed by his generous nature. Milton is also the cleric in the party and is responsible for keeping the party in good health with his healing spells. He can also make undead turn away. Milton's mace is the bane of all animated dead everywhere.

Talia, the Human Sorcerer.

Talia was always different. She was never allowed into the social communities that her peers had formed and spent a lot of time on her own. It was when she reached puberty that she knew there was something different with her. She began to manifest unusual abilities such as making dancing balls of light and even a little fire. Both frightened but fascinated with her new powers, she began to practice using them in secret. Unfortunately, she was found using them one day and was chased out of the village that she'd grown up in. Her heart was crushed until she ran into a man who gleamed with good will and helped her off of her feet. Talia is the arcane spell caster of the party, using her spells in safety from a distance to help her allies. She uses a knife to attack with, but has done only a little practice at throwing it.

I'd like some opinions. Milton is basically the leader, or at least the founder of this group. If you see these characters at A-kon, say hello to me! I'll have several copies of their sheets and might give them to people who haven't developed their own characters.
