| Shapedoctor07-26-04, 06:38 PM | I'm introducing two 10 year olds to the game. He's a ranger, she's a bard. The setting is mostly a desert, they're starting out in their home village, Surngum, in the nation of Mercuria. Surngum means Rock Village in the local language. As they are in real life, their characters are brother and sister. To make things a little easier for all of us, I gave them each a Handy Haversack. One of my thoughts is that their mother or father, or some other ancestor was or is a wizard that made these sacks. They've each bought horses, and their adventures will probably mostly take place in the wilderness Mostly I want the kids to develop their characters, but I thought this would be a good place to look for npc personalities that they might know in their home village. I need to keep things G to PG rated, so no BoVD, etc. The following link is to the campaign setting, you'll notice there's no Surngum on the map, I haven't placed it yet. The Panlands (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=244042) Thanks for any help. |

Well in that case I guess I should put some effect into this post, although I need a few questions of my own answered before I can answer all of yours. So my questions first I guess, here we go... First and formost, what is the areas general attatude, are they Good, N, or Evil?. Next, what are the characters attatudes. Are there any other players or just those two? (If more what are they like race/class/alighment) Ok, now here I go... Well, to start, there are so many great ideas bouncing around these boards, and I think I can speak for everyone, when I say they are at your disposel in your attempt to cram the youngsers heads with something other then butten mashing computer games. You should look at some of the other threads on this board, most notably Trydans how to create a roleplaying character, although Galahads is also nice, assuming its still around. I belive you can find Trydans guide on page two. As for npc's, how about this one... Razzer Thanhole (Male Human Ranger5 Neutral) Razzer was a vetern exploperer of the desert until a near brush with death 20 years ago. Now in his late 60's, the vetern runs a small tavern in Surngum. He doesnt like many people, although he took a liking to young ______(Insert the rangers name here), telling him storys of his explotes in the desert. Razzer hasent seen much combat in recent years, although he'll come running if he hears that ______ is in trouble. Relationship: Razzer looks at the ranger PC as the son he never had. He has taught him many of his skills as a tracker and surviver in the desert. Well, theres 1, I'll try to add another person every few days or so. Just a quick question as I leave though, are the kids yours, and are they twins? Aluroon |

The general attitude is neutral to good where they'll begin. The PCs ar both good. They'll start with a halfling rogue npc I'll use to "teach them the ropes". They're the only two PCs for now. I like Razzor & will introduce him to them when we play later this week. The kids are my niece & nephew, they're not twins, but they're close. They're actually 10 & 11, I just rounded things a bit. |

Like they fight some elves in the desert in a deserted town(Lessons on cover). You then have them fight someone with moderate dex and moderate armor the next encounter(Give the bard a whip, lessons on tripping). Keep introducing things in that kind of manner for awhile till you've covered alot of it. Good luck, and have fun. :) |
