| Baseballpro101507-28-05, 12:30 AM | I want to make a really cool mage, but I need to know how to go about it, I am a smart gamer and know a decent bit of what I need to know, but it always seems to be that the DM randomly kills me because im a Magic User and hes a melee kinda guy, well beside the point, is there ne chance some one could help me? Race Probably Human or Elf, Also, could some one point me in the right direction for the stats and stuff of an Elven High Mage, I hear they are devastating but have no clue as to what they are. Thanks and thanks for helping me |

That said, Sun Elf is one of the best wizard races. Human can be just as good depending on your feat selection. Your highest stat should be Int (I do highly suggest being a wizard and not a sorceror). Second highest should be Constitution (one of the drawbacks of being a Sun Elf). If you can get Faeri Mysteries Initiate (which lets you use Int instead of Con for HP), you can mostly avoid the problem for a feat. Incantatrix is one of the better Prestige Classes and Wizard 5/Incantatrix 10/Archmage 5 is a typical powerful build. Elven High Mage is an Epic Prestige Class that you cannot take until you break that Lvl 21 barrier. It is mostly good for epic casting. A Human would prefer to go Netherese Arcanist for this sort of thing. Now, as for your play style: Learn your spells. I cannot emphasize this enough. Know everything you can about your spells. Know they can be applied in more than one way, and a clever solution can make a lvl 1 spell slot more valuable than a level 9. Case in point: Gil-Leon de LaVaal, a wizard I used to play. He used Silent Image to immobolize an opponent. After all, anyone with Spellcraft will tell you that Prismatic Sphere kills. Too bad the opponent had a command word teleportation spell. *sigh* Now, FYI, that's the nitty gritty side. This is the character development board. You should give some thought as to the characters background, including why they persue magic. Wizardry is a very time consuming career. Something to think about. |
