| warpdragon06-20-04, 10:17 PM | I have a thread on the Character Optimization boards but its not much help. [here] (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=261188) My character was a paladin, and he was very good. But when another paladin, his friend, killed his father, who was drinking and gambling at the time, he snapped and killed his friend. He was then kicked out of paladining. So he became a blackguard after realizing that good is not his style. After being evil for quite some time he attacked a village and killed everyone. The as the last woman was fleeing in terror he galloped past her on his horse and beheaded her in one blow. As he turned his head to see the terror in the victim’s eyes he realizes it was his mother. He feels horrible for what he is done and vows to hunt down the blackguard. But now he can't go back to being a paladin. How should I do the whole blackguard slayer thing? Is there a PrC? Should he be able to atone for his deeds? Should he be allowed to become a paladin again? |

He makes sure that everyone respects the laws and lives by them. You have Lawful Good, Lawfull Evil and Lawfull Neutral Justicars. This prestigeclass is (in my opion) very suitable for an embittered fighter abbandoned by both the good and the evil deïties. Maybe your DM is friendly enough to give you some Justicar levels for free, so you don't have all the disadvantages of being an ex-paladin/ex-blackguard. I like your character concept, it has given me some good ideas for a NPC knight. |
| warpdragon06-21-04, 05:34 PM | Sounds cool and it could be a posbility. What disadvantages does it get from being an expal/exbg? Also, he wasn't really abandoned, he pretty much just quit. |
| Twilly06-22-04, 04:45 AM | Well I guess you will have a few levels of ex-paladin and ex-blackguard that will not be of much value. The Justicar Prestigeclass itself does not have any particular drawbacks for ex-paladins or ex-blackguards. As long as you stay Lawfull everything is fine. |

Do you mean like how blackguards get free levels from being a paladin? What kind of character is he in regards to how he plays? Also, if anyone has The Quintessential Paladin, could you tell me what editon it is for and if the Shadow Champion PrC would suit this character: Shadow Champion - fights evil with guerilla tactics and has own spell list. 10-level PrC. and if the Character Concepts have any mechanical effect or are just roleplay ideas, such as:Penitent - a dark past gives this paldin zeal and knowledge when fighting evil, at the cost of some of his paladin sacred abilities. |

| Twilly06-22-04, 03:23 PM | Yes that is what I mean. You'll have a few levels that do not give you any class-abbilities. It would be a pity if your statistics would have to suffer for a good character concept. But most DM's and GM's are very lenient when you have a cool idea in mind. Being an ex-paladin and ex-blackguard will give your DM/GM some nice plothooks. Another option could be the Ghostwalker prestige class from Sword and Fist. I think the flavor text fits in with your character concept. They have some nice abilities to win in 1 on 1 fights against for example blackguards. Here is yet another prestige class that might be interesting for you. The Vigilante from Song and Silence. If your DM allows it, you might wanna choose for the Ranger Class with favored enemy: Humans and/or Elves and/or ..... . You have fought on both sides of good and evil so you might have some experience in dealing with knights of the opposite alignments. As a ranger you have access to some nice prestige classes from Masters of the Wild, maybe the Foe Hunter is something for you. You could always go for fighter and eventually the Cavalier prestige class. This way you still have the fighting style that most paladins and blackguards will use. I think you have enough options, just talk to your DM and see what fits best. |
| warpdragon06-22-04, 08:30 PM | Ok, it definately would not be ranger. Why elves though? My DM said that I would be able to attone somehow and have my blackguard levels replaced by paladin levels if I wanted to. The Vigilate sounds cool but what does the Ghostwalker do? Anyone have info on the Quintessential Paladin stuff? |
