This is what I have so far, I was wondering if the great people from this forum can help me put it all together. Now I don't know how to apply his 6 CHA other than being disconnected from everything emotionally. Childhood Half-ogre, was an orphan, grew up at Psychic Warrior temple or training place. Had to do more chores than the rest of his peers because of his great strength. He was often seen using a sledge hammer in the chores he needed to do. Other students would mock him and were harsh. present day Level 1 psychic warrior, STR 20 INT 11 DEX 15 WIS 14 CON 18 CHA 6 Did some fighting in the last war, for the money and to see if that would help people respect him, and not be so predujice to him. It didn't help. He keeps himself relatively clean for a half-ogre, and his gear is in good condition. The money he gets from his work he buys gaudy items because he is making up for lost time from being so poor in his youth. Gave up with people accepting him, figures they will all hate him, so just consentrate on the job and the money. future Wants to be a War Mind and Psychic Weapons Master, with his Greathammer. He wants to buy his way into upper society and be more accepted by human lands. traits never gives you his opinion on things, just signs when he disagrees, unemtional. |

Perhaps the title (Jaded Mercenary) and his race have something to do with his outlook on life. Been there, done that, have the tee shirt? Perhaps he is this way because everyone expected him too? After all, he IS an Ogre, and they only like to kill and eat people, right? Again, I am not very sure what your asking, here, but I hope this helps some. |
| fozzybear02-26-06, 03:09 PM | Yeah, thanks that helps a bit. I am looking for help with two things. First to flush out his background some more. And secondly I need help playing a character with such low CHA. I have never done that before, and I am not sure how far I should take it. I rolled my stats so I can't increase it :-( |
| Uberwoot02-26-06, 04:29 PM | Playing a character with that low of charisma might prove a challenge. I suggest being extremely short with everyone. Say exactly as much as you think needs to be said, no more, no less; socially, this tends to get a lot of negative reactions, which will help justify the low charisma. Keep to yourself, never give anyone any indication of what you're thinking or feeling. Mutter under your breath a lot (low enough that noone else can hear you), and curse like a drunken, wounded pirate, at randomly chosen or especially inappropriate times (even when you're happy- you don't like getting your hopes up). As for flushing out his background... try to come up with a few little stories about seemingly minor occurrences in his past that are indicative of his general interaction with others. For example, a story about trying (and failing) to make friends with "the new kid" would probably work well. Also, try to come up with a few major character-defining events (for example, a relative's death, overly-severe punishment for a failure, etc.) that help the DM give adventure or roleplay hooks (your aunt came back from the grave, you are passing by the stocks where an unfairly accused man is undergoing punishment, etc.). Best of luck. |

There are a few factors that could be why your character act the way he does. Half breeds have a stigma atached to them by those who see themselves as pure bloods and even though you had nothing to do with it the blame for your birth seems to rest on your shoulders. Being a half-ogre people (humans, elves, dwarves etc) will tend to think the worst of you because they will believe your ogre heritage will predispose you to being stupid and evil, even if your actions are not. this sort of emotional abuse when growing up would leave you predisposed to avoiding any emotional ties with any one as you feel they will only hurt you. Better to be alone than to hurt again. Having grown up poor it would have been blatently obvious that money brings hapiness. With this in mind you set out to make money fromdoing what you do best. That just happens to be fighting and so mercenary seems a logical progression. In this environment your skill and power will either make you feared or respected or possibly both. It is likely that having seen your ability they will become fearful of upsetting you and having you turn on them like a an ogre might. Thus you tend to restrict your contact socially with others. |
