Hello and thanks for visiting my post,

I am a first and foremost a role-player, secondly i am a min/maxer and lastly i am like we all are a power gamer (how many times does your ranger use a sling instead of the more damaging long bow). Yes we all are all 3 to a degree, but enough of that. This is a post about

UNIQUE CHARACTERS and the problems they face.

character one LACK OF INFO MAN

Currently i am playing a preist of (rut ro i forgot the goddess of heidenisms name, shes gonna kill me). My character is TOTALLY useless in combat but all of his spells are such that he should never HAVE to fight, and if he does then well thats what the rest of the party is for. I have a purpose, i heal those that need healing. id die to a 1 hp goblin however if he followed me long because my 8 str makes my dagger (my only weapon) do -2 pts. Not that id ever attack with my dagger its for other purposes.

My other fellow players Love it when i role play this guy, he acts like jim morrison and they dont even mind that i disrupt the flow of the game, everyone gets carried away with what im doing when we are out of combat. but then when combat rolls around they do nothing but curse me, call me useless and request i play a more combat oriented character.

this still isnt quite the problem with my charcter that i wanted to discuss, i can get around that (although any advice you want to give will at least be read and processed). my problem is anyone know of a good source for info on how specialty clerics should act? my goddess is the one that likes cats, and her holy symbol is a set of lips (sorry characters pretty new and im bad with names). I try my best to role play the character but there is so little info on the lesser gods and there is not much info on the DUTIES any cleric must perform.

so i guess the problem this character faces is LACK of goddly info.. anyone know of a good source for more detailed info than is in the FR book/faiths and avitars?

On to my next character THE RECKLESS GOOD GUY

I played a CHAOTIC GOOD rogue in my last campaign and was nearly attacked for every action he proformed. The rest of the group were all forms of good, but he was constantly being threated not to do stuff even though it had NOTHING to do with them. I played my character 100% good guy all the way, what do you do when your GOOD team mates threaten you, which to me seems a bit of an evil act? what does a true good guy have as protective measures and of course ill give examples of what they got mad at.

1) a kid falls in a well, i tie my rope to myself and a tree and DIVE in without thought of my safty (expecting that i might die if the well was dry or expecting damage if the rope was too short). i save the kid, they get in a fist fight about being careless and being a GLORY HOG??!!?!?!? at least i saved the kid right?

2) i try to activate every magic item (rogue ability) despite not knowing what it is, i always did so when AWAY from other player characters. They would always try to find some reason to interrupt me so they could find out what i was doing and stop me, usually with weapons drawn in case i wouldnt put down the item?!? only person indangered, me....

3) sleeping with half orcs.... well, i guess i deserive the flack i got fromt that one, but in all honesty... they were cheaper

4) i finnally met my fate when the group ambushed me after summoning a hydra. well i didnt summon it, i just tossed a rock into an underground lake out of boredom because they prohibited me from doing ANYTHING remotly rogue like. rock agitates the hydra, they blame ME. THEY KILL ME... they not so good guys but what can be done? any suggestions... being a good guy i realize that i was in my rights to defend myself when they threatened me... but it doesnt seem right.... any comments on this would be appreciated.

Character 3 the PIXIE PSIONICIST

i need a good reason why a pixie psionicist is a valid playable character, they wont even let me concider it... they keep bringing up a story they created just to poke fun at him about a pixie on a kings throne mounted to the top of a fighters head that my pixe sits in as he DOMINATES the fighter.

any help on this matter would be appreciated since i really would like to play a pixie psion, one that isnt as disruptive as thier little story.

For deific info, go to your DM. It’s their world after all. If they have no details ask if you can make stuff up and submit it to them. If you can make stuff up, come back to this board and you can get some great suggestions along those lines.

The Chaotic Good guy. I have seen this problem before and chances are the problem is, your DM. You do something and your DM responds to it. “A boy falls down a well, I grab a rope, I tie it off, I jump in.” 64 actions while the rest of the group sits around and thinks you are hogging the glory. Now despite the fact that this is a DM problem you can do something about it. Involve other people. Instead of jumping in, grab the rope and tie it around the halfling, yell for some light from the sorcerer, and ask the fighter to help you lower the halfling.

Pixie Psion. Are psionics allowed? In other words are psionics prevalent in the world or is the only reason you want to play a psionics character because you would be the only one? If they are viable. make the character and show it to the other players. This guy will be so under powered I am sure they will warm up to him.

Now I would like to shed some light on your problem, in general. You are an attention seeker, roleplaying wise. You keep making all of these intensive RP characters that intentionally rub all the other characters (and players) the wrong way. Unfortunately it also looks like your DM is not too sharp, and the other players can’t rp their way out of a cardboard box. However, you have absolutely no way to fix anyone else, so you need to turn inward. Make a character based on helping out other members of the party, like a bard or a healing cleric. Try to get everyone involved.

Thanks for the Reply Stembolt.

I guess it is a DM related situation but it is also a PLAYER situation. The players all just seem to want to sit there. I try to get them involved at every corner. Let me describe my group so you can get an idea of the tragedy i face. Keep in mind, we are all friends and we have been gaming together for at least 15 years (core group anyways).

Tim (core group): the DM. Tim thinks that every adventure needs to be us saving the world from some super-uber-uber threat that epic level characters would have a hard time acheiving. Unfortunatly we usually play 1-10th level characters, ok thats an overstatement, 1-5th level is more the norm. Tims a great guy though and does *try* to give us the occasional orc encounter.

Shane(core group): Weird player extroidinair. Shane (until we got a real life girl in the group) was the TOKEN female player. Shane has to be the weirdest party member or he cant handle it. I have seen BLUE WOOKIES that eat cookies in starwars, Wolverine in Dungeons and dragons, Half dragons, Polymorphed (insert random animal turned human), Sith wanna bee's in starwars group of JEDI, and basically anything that will totally totally disrupt the game just for existing. Of course he plays the character very disruptive also such as the troll that eats everyones equipment, the monk that doesnt talk TO THE GROUP ONLY, and lordy i could go on for ever. the weirdness doesnt stop. AT least he does roleplay, hes quite good at it, If hed focus hed be on par with me.

Shanes chicky DAWN: new to the group, new to gaming, new to role playing. Doing a Darn fine job and making newbie mistakes. its all good though. she lacks roleplaying the most, shes grasping the rules quite well. not much else to say other than shes a great side kick, just dont expect the job to get done when shes the one in charge of it. Not yet anyways. I often times pass jobs off to her characters just to MAKE her role play it. Its fun.

Steve : Steve i know more about his Real life than his characters, hes slowly becoming a core player but his characters lack soul. i think hes played 20 versions of the same guy just with different names. i did like one character once, he seemed different, annoying but different. his characters can get the job done *if* you remember hes standing there. He never volunteers to do anything though. Another follower.... in a group of followers.

Brent: sneak theif. every character brent plays is devious and a shadow lurker. he disappears when combat starts, shows up when treasures divided and roleplays only when you catch him, string him up by his toes and begins torture. Thats not true, he only interacts with others after you do that. he roleplays a thief very well. cant rely on him to get the job done, cant find him to ask him to get the job done.

Matt: resident power gamer. Matt plays the LEAST effecient characters of the entire group due to his SHANE like tendencies. If he stayed away from weird and went straight power gaming at least hed have a character that could support his weight. As it is his paladins are called liers by the group (for good reason, miscommunication), his humans want to be gnomes, his gnomes want to be giants, and his theives dont want to break the law EVER. Good characters gone somewhere.....

Me: ROLE PLAYER. I role my stats straight up 3d6 in order. I randomize the weapon i use so i dont always play mighty composit longbows and max damage swords. i do max my skills out for each skill i select, although 1/4th of all my points i assign randomly. 1/4 or so of my feats are random (got infamy in star wars yesterday, luckally i was playing a scoundrel) and then after taking this character i MAKE him into a hero. Ive been a power gamer before, i can make a killing machine, its booring. Ive played the weird characters and do still like the ones that would be a ROLEPLAYING challenge, try getting respect as a pixie psion. im sure i have my flaws, but im always the leader of the group no matter what i play (the cleric that worsips the godess of heidenism was a blatent attempt to not have to lead as he is purposly not a leader type, heck, he doesnt want to follow himself into combat)....

as far as are psionics available, not only are they, they kick are can cause not a singe member is psionic. We lost half our party to a single intellict devourer (that things challenge rating is way off for non-psions), the survivors had to flee to live.

Anyone know any good DM material that teachs dms how to have small plots that eventually lead up to something big... that might help also. DM reference material would be greatly appreciated.
