| BreegJac1708-10-07, 10:28 PM | I'm playing an evil dwarven Rogue, and i was wondering if you people could help me make a RP style and personality that was unique and isn't a cliche'. ( What i mean is, I don't want a tasslehoff burrfoot, with an evil streak :P , no cliches, something original. I don't want any rogue cliches, like kleptomania, but he worships the dwarven god of greed, so it's going to be hard.) Any comments opinions, or suggestions would be appreciated. And for anybody who answers, thank you for your time. |

When he acquires a lot of gold, he feels happy and at peace with the world, but he's never content for long. He becomes anxious and depressed when he doesn't have a lot of gold or hasn't made any big "scores" lately. It's something of a fetish for him, one beyond his conscious control. He's not a kleptomaniac, but he'll do anything for money. Small gains -- like stealing an oil of magic weapon from a merchant -- don't satisfy him. It has to be a lot of money. He worships the god of greed (Abbathor?) to fulfill his uncontrolled greed for treasure and wealth. The thing is, the behaviors caused by his addiction to wealth and acquisition are completely contrary to everything he values and believes in at the conscious level. He believes in altruism, simple living, self-sacrifice, etc. As a result, he loathes himself. Part of his self-hatred manifests in occassional, furtive self-mutilation (probably no one knows -- unless they're all naked for some reason, and some observant party members makes a high DC spot check and sees a cross-hatched pattern of scars under his armpit or something), substance abuse (probably alcohol, for a dwarf), and yet more attempts to acquire gold and wealth -- the comfort and pleasure of getting riches always makes him feel better when he feels the pain of guilt and self-loathing, even though it's the root cause of his problems. Another way his self-loathing manifests is in a hatred of people he perceives as morally better than himself. Seeing people acting as he, deep down, thinks he should act always makes him feel guilty and insecure. As a result, he always tries to find hidden selfishness and hypocrisy in "good" people, even where none (or very little) exists. He tries to avoid associating with people who, through their good behavior, bring his guilt and self-hatred to the surface. When he must associate with such people, he often tries to ruin them or "convert" them toward amoral selfishness. He gets some sadistic pleasure from defiling goodness, but mostly he just wants good, honorable, altruistic people to disappear so that they'll stop reminding him of his own failings. I realize he's a bit of a basketcase, but I thought I'd try to give him a personality I hadn't seen much before (an evil person who doesn't regard himself as a superior life form, arrogantly looking down on those pitiful naïve do-gooders). If it's too "out there" in roleplaying terms, reject it and tell me a bit more closely what you want and more about the history you want him to have, etc |
| BreegJac1708-11-07, 10:58 PM | I don't think i'll play him like that, but it still is a very good personality. :) I want to play him as a life-loving, greedy, dark, thief and killer. |
| Malruhn08-12-07, 12:17 AM | Well, you shoulda said that to begin with!! This is like a "Get me a rock" scenario... you run out and get a rock and the boss says, "Nope, wrong color." You run out and get another, and he says, "Nope, wrong shape." Come out and give us the RULES to begin with - and we can help. If you say, "Anything - just not cliche'", then be happy with what you get if it isn't cliche'!! |
| BreegJac1708-12-07, 03:21 PM | I did give you some in the 1st post. What i want is someone who is very greedy, but not a klepto-kender. |
| thatoreoguy08-13-07, 08:29 PM | how about if he has a james bond complex. IE: he is greedy for women. No matter the town, or the place, or how shes scored on a 1-10 scale he will nail her ? And say he collects something of value from each girl ... hair - to creepy fingernails- even worse identity cards ? hankerchief? |
| Passivearmada08-13-07, 10:37 PM | Jules, that reminds me of Mr. Entreri a little bit, but good idea. Maybe he loves life sooo much that he thinks other people don't deserve it because they don't love it sooo much. He takes their money afterwards too. |
| Boshi08-14-07, 11:47 PM | Maybe a Scrooge McDuck personality? Very greedy and love hoarding money, but won't stoop to petty theft and lives to make money off of lost gold and business trickery rather than outright theft. Would have skills like Appraise, Bluff, Diplomacy, Search, Disable Device prioritized over things like sleight of hand, move silently and hide. |
