| Neo_Leviathan06-04-05, 12:46 PM | Ok, I've got a Male Human Sorcerer that I've been using in a campaign that has mostly been dungeon crawling (Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil). He comes from a city where almost every citizen has some kind of magical gift, whether it be arcane, divine, psionic, or simply being able to use magic to enhance their culinary skills. In a nutshell, the reason he is part of htis campaign is because one of his family's seers foresaw that this temple would bring great doom unless it's inhabitants were stopped from releasing the Elder Elemental Eye. The seer also foresaw that it would not fall unless his family swore blood oath to ensure it's fall. The only way such an oath would be sworn was if a family member was slain in the course of the quest. My character (Duncan), his brother and his sister had been eavesdropping when the prophesy was fortold. Duncan's eldest brother (Connor, a Psion (Egoist) ) charged off on the quest, knowing that he would likely die in the attempt (which he did, Connor was the character I started the campaign with). So Connor was killed, the blood oath of vengeance was sworn, and Duncan went forth on the quest, thats the reason he's there. Personality wise, Duncan is an advocate of freedom, he believes that all creatures should be free to do as they choose, provided they do not curtail the freedoms of another. As such he will not learn or cast any spell involving overriding another's free will. However he also believes that one should be loyal to their friends, and thus was royally ****** off when the party buggered off on him and left him to the mercy of a bunch of Troglodytes. He enjoys living life on the edge, believing that life is sweeter when you live side by side with danger and laugh at it, and he worships the Goddess of Luck, Tymora. Trouble is, I'm usure how to develope my character from here. The rest of the party (the main ones he can gain new outlooks from) are a slightly naive halfling druid who is barely out of home, a cleric of pelor that has lived her entire life in the cloisters of the church (this is her first time out of the temple for any length of time), and a chaotic neutral Ssressen (lizardfolk, hate the cold) fighter who seems to have little personality other than 'I'm bored and cold, I want a warm fire and something to kill'. Oh, and we had (the player left) a half-orc barbarian who couldn't speak, who ended up getting a barmaid pregnant and retiring from adventuring to get married and work in the tavern. Can anyone give me a few ideas? |

A question though is the main point of the game this whole legacy for your family and the other characters are along for the ride? If your character likes living on the edge I might suggest you find your way into the spellsword prestige class even if its just enough to wear a light armor. (not to push this into a build reply, but I thought you might want a little advice on everything) I am curios though becuase you brought out a lot of different things in this post, what things specifically do you need advice/help on? |

He may be particularly angry with the others and so may take advantage of the halfling's naivety with practical jokes, out halflinging the halfling. The mage may also decide he wishes to become a powerful force of freedom in the world, so he nourishes his sorcery to become as intense a force as possible. |
| Neo_Leviathan06-05-05, 01:53 AM | Oh, I'm also now progressing as a Mage of the Arcane Order, the concept of a spellpool of loose (aka 'free') magic was rather tempting to Duncan. Well, the rest of the party was suitably chastised for leaving me behind, hooray for invisibilty and getting out of places. The point of the quest isn't the family legacy thing, in fact the rest of the party does't even know about that yet, they've all got their seperate reasons. As to bringing in lots of stuff, I tried to give a thorough background on things. I'm looking for how my character can progress personality and outlook-wise on this quest, since it would be naive to assume that such a thing would leave a person unchanged. |
| Alakar06-06-05, 12:29 PM | Hmmm, give your sorcerer and addiction to magic. It seems silly, but for roleplaying situations it can be a blast. You must have your spell casting fix for the day, and give each school of magic a different feeling. Evocation for the rush, transmutation for the "high", ect. It doesn't usualy come into play, but for when the unthinkalble happens (antimagic field), you will go completely batty. Since magic is in your blood, i think this is a reasonable roleplaying aspect. This could also explain why you want acess to the spell pool, its kinda like having a junky with more options, to put it bluntly. Another quirk you could use, is since everyone could use magic from where your from, you want to do something to stand out, so you rushed to take one the temple. The experience of being the savior ( or the temtation of the power the Elder Elemental Eye could give you) could seperate you from those comman magic users. Just some idead from the top of my head. Hope this helped. |
