| Andrinor SwiftFoot02-15-04, 02:46 PM | Mainly, I am looking for a good Viking PrC that I can use in a Campaign where most of the world has been flooded for the last 200 years. I am preparing to build a Viking style Barbarian type character. If someone would point me in the direction of a good PrC and the source for it, I would appreciate it. |
| Solidcobra02-15-04, 02:59 PM | let's see.... a viking would be a Barbarian/Frenzied Berserker/Berserk (no, honestly!), the berserk class is from deities and demigods, it gets "Battle Fury", and it stacks with rage and frenzy (yes, that does mean that you will get a great will save, a extreme strength and constitution and the worst AC known to man if you combine them all), it also gets even higher move speed and it can enter "Beast shape" mode, this gives him a extra +2 Str and con, but he can't speak (he can still wield a greataxe though), this baby also gets damage reduction my suggestion is: barbarianX/fighterX/berserk3/frenzied berserkerX, that is, take levels of fighter and barbarian until you can become either PrC, then take 3 levels in berserker and the rest in frenzied, max swim if possible since you are in a waterworld, but that says itself.... |
| Esperil the grey02-15-04, 07:48 PM | Ifi were you, then i might consider the often overlooked Bardbarian (no its not a spelling mistake, it's a multi-class barbarian/bard) take 1 level of bard to start with then barbarian 3 or four then another level every now and then of bard just to keep the skills up high (perform/gather info). If your playing 3rd ed this is great because only one of the bardic music thingy's is level dependent so you just get better at bardic music so long as you keep your perform check high, and if you human you can take one level on bard one level on barbarian and the rest on any thing else you fancy with out multi-class penaltys, it's great. On a chracter background level, the bardbarian is a norsic battle musician (skoll i thinck, but its late and i just worked 19 hours this weekend so please forgive any vagueness) Vickings were very enthusiastic about music and blood and tales of war and impossible deeds (in that sense they were a ancient version of role players) so it makes sense that a vicking type would have skills (call them levels if you will) in both bardic and war like areas. Sing for strong honeyed mead in the skull of your enemy. |

They also tell stories and poems to psych up the others. The barbarian/bard skald is a great build, especially since 3.5 bards can cast while wearing light armor (Bard/barbarian/eldrich knight is a decent combo). There's also a PrC in Races of Faerun called the Warrior skald whoch blends bardic and barbarian abilities. I also recoomend blending the levels more closely than hust Bard1/barbarianX because bard levels are important for bardic knowledge as well as perform (after all, youd have to pay double points to advance perform with barbarian levels) If you just want a straight-up raiding machine I''d suggest barbarian and maybe some fighter levels for feata then frenzied berserker, berserk or anything else that strikes your fancy. Ranger/Barbarian is another good idea for a viking. Take your own race, or the race you ost likely raid as your favored enemy (In 3.5 you are not required to b evil to take your own race as an enemy). The tracking is good for hunting down strglers and the favored eemy bonus is good for fighting AND for dealing with people (which is good since vikings were also traders and extortionists) And of course, what's a raging barbarian without a pair of axes to whirl around insanely? |
