Race: Beginner
Age: 1000, born 20/04/3097
Height: 5’ 7”
Weight: 138
Occupation: High Priest of the Cult of the Dragon

Adal Wolf is one of the few Beginners left in the universe. Because they caused the downfall of his people’s civilisation, he loathes and despises races other than Beginners, the true first race. However, he tolerates their enrolment in the Cult and the Legion of the Dragon, knowing himself that they will all be exterminated mercilessly once Elegance awakens.

Adal is a powerful diplomat, and his sermons and testaments to the power of Elegance and the righteousness of the actions of the Cult have drawn many ears. This worries the other High Priests, who fear he may try to take power for himself. He is also a tactful military commander, able to develop detailed and efficient tactics in only a few minutes. It was his grandfather’s tactics that aided the Illithid Empire in their expansion into Sector 2, and his mother and father were both blood-pure Beginners.

However, despite his personal power as a leader figure, Adal has his own issues. His health is failing him in his age, and he is succumbing to mortal disease, most notably tremors on the right side of his body, skin lesions on his back, and daytime drowsiness. His symptoms are kept in check by a dense cocktail of drugs, which leave him with the daily high that contributes to his personal magnetism.

Adal has long wanted to take the Cult public, bringing to bear a new, forceful, takeover of all life in the universe to make all races bow down to the superiority of the Beginners and Elegance, their god. Some factions in the Legion believe that Adal thinks himself already a god, perhaps one more powerful than Elegance himself.

Adal’s tongue and bone marrow have been replaced with a prosthetic, allowing him to prolong his life and increase the carrying ability of his speeches. More anecdotally, much of his tongue prosthetic is mithral or silver, meaning he literally has a “silver tongue”.
Race: Beginner
Age: 1027, born 22/12/3070
Height: 5’ 9”
Weight: 164 lb
Occupation: High Priest of the Cult of the Dragon

Heri Man is one of the six High Priests of the Cult of the Dragon, and is a man driven predominantly by his addictions to various drugs (Including Agony, Luhix, Redflower leaves, and Baccaran). He is the commander-in-chief of the Legion’s military forces.

Heri is a rotund man, much more the heavy eater than his peers, but his height and build make for an intimidating sight. His primary weakness, besides his addictions to drugs and lavish food, is his family. One of the few Beginner families remaining, Heri considers them to be an object of unequalled monetary value, and is quick to do anything to protect them.
Heri is extremely confident and very rarely takes things as seriously as a man in his position should. He sometimes appears to be paying little attention to the situation at hand, and has been considered to be a clown or buffoon by other High Priests.

Heri has had his stomach replaced with a more efficient prosthetic that allows him to eat more food soon after eating, and reduces the amount of time he needs to eat something. His lower jaw has also been replaced, as has a large part of his digestive system.
Race: Beginner
Age: 1025, born 04/02/3072
Height: 6’ 0”
Weight: 162 lb
Occupation: High Priest of the Cult of the Dragon

Hrod is in charge of the organisation’s false companies, which are used to distribute information covertly, pay out salaries and bribes, and give a legitimate cover story for questionable operations. He enjoys astronomy and stellar cartography, and numerous star charts hanging on the walls mark his private quarters.

As befits his post and the organisation at large, Hrod is an expert infiltrator. Virtually none have ever located him when he has gone into hiding, and he is fully capable of misleading pursuers to believe something other than the truth. In fact, he rarely attends meetings between the High Priests, because they are never entirely certain if he is telling the truth or if it is indeed he.

Secretly, he has concerns about the path of the organisation. He believes that the world can be bought through the deceptions of industry and commerce. And whilst business may flourish in times of strife and war, they also weaken and become unbalanced economically. Hrod, like Rick, mentions nothing of his considerations to the others.

Hrod has had his facial muscles replaced with advanced prosthetics, allowing him to take on a number of different visages to mask his identity. He also has a number of organ prosthetics, including his kidneys and small intestine.
Race: Half-Beginner Half-Drow
Age: 1010, born 12/06/3087
Height: 5’ 7”
Weight: 147 lb
Occupation: High Priest of the Cult of the Dragon

Io is one of the few partial Beginners on the roster of High Priests in the Cult of the Dragon, his mother having interbred with a Drow captive. As a result of this “tainted blood”, Adal treats him with enduring contempt, but it blesses him with a dark complexion nearing black, and a cruel temperament.

Io is responsible for the production of false information and the elimination or correct information, the head of propaganda. If information is to be sent to an official outside the organisation, it is his minions that produce it to a quality that would not go noticed beside ordinary documents. When a message is to be sent to persons outside the organisation by a treacherous worshipper yet to be captured by the Dragon Teeth, it is his minions that alter or destroy the message (And, often, the messenger with it).

Io is a very dark being, bred largely by his father’s elven blood, and his mother’s career as an interrogator, in addition to his mistreatment by the elder Adal. His philosophical ideals, closely in line with those of Adal, spread like a plague into his newer minions, and within days they quickly take them to heart personally. His meticulous nature ensures that the organisation is never discovered to be behind any endeavour, or to even exist.

Like his mother before him, he is an excellent interrogator, master of torture and known for using unorthodox methods to acquire the information he wants. More than a few prisoners have confessed to information before he has even entered the room, so afraid of what he might do.

His blood heritage is his weakness. He loathes unprofessional behaviour and is extremely quick to anger when confronted about his parentage. His father was a captive of the organisation, a non-Beginner parent. His mother, one of the greatest interrogators ever known. For her to associate on such personal levels with a prisoner is something Io finds totally abhorrent. No one has ever questioned the disappearance of either a millennia ago.

Io’s right hand has been replaced with a superior prosthetic, over which is his original skin to mask the prosthetic, and he also has several internal prosthetics as well.
Race: Beginner
Age: 1021, born 21/09/3076
Height: 5‘ 5“
Weight: 134 lb
Occupation: High Priest of the Cult of the Dragon

Rick Heim is one of the last surviving Beginners, and one of the six High Priests of the Cult of the Dragon. It is his responsibility to control the flow of information in the Cult and the Legion, and he also manages the pirate military branch of the Legion, the Dragon Teeth, which seeks out traitors and dangerous elements to prevent the organisation ever coming to public light.

Because he runs the Dragon Teeth, Rick has little empathy for Adal, who wants to bring the organisation into the public light, though he tolerates him as a peer in the Cult. However, Adal’s bullying nature often makes Rick out to be a servant to him, though when Adal’s medicine deliveries are delayed it is usually Rick who is thought to be the culprit.

As a Beginner, Rick joined the organisation by inheritance. His mother was a member of the Dragon Teeth and his father was a High Priest in charge of them. However, he dislikes the direction that the organisation is taking to awakening Elegance, though he knows better than to say so out loud. He is very secretive, a trait inherited from his mother, and his bespectacled silhouette is a common sign of impending doom. This is not a standard, however, as he rarely appears personally at attacks by the Dragon Teeth, preferring to sit at his desk on Vaul and handle the paperwork associated with them, dissociating himself from the actual nature of his work.

The majority of Rick’s prosthetic implants are internalised, but he is known to have a prosthetic blue left eye equipped with infrared sensors.
Race: le’Shay
Age: 2067, born 12/11/2030 (Immortal)
Height: 5‘ 3“
Weight: 125 lb
Occupation: High Priestess of the Cult of the Dragon

Valr is largely a mystery, even for the secretive Legion of the Dragon organisation. She has served as a High Priestess longer than any other member, in fact longer than any two other High Priests combined. She is also the only High Priest to be entirely non-Beginner. She is actually a le’Shay, a race old enough to have seen the fall of the previous universe, immortal and with power unquestioned.

Valr was born out of wedlock to an unknown mother in 2030, presumed to be a le’Shay couple. Her mother abandoned her just as her father abandoned them both, leaving her in the care of the organisation. Once she reached maturity, she entered the Legion of the Dragon, and rapidly rose through the ranks to become a High Priestess.

Valr is very dogmatic and self-confident. It is often said that she is the avatar of Elegance, or at least believes herself to be so. She dislikes being touched, and is quick to kill any who defy her.

She is responsible for the acquisition of new members, recruitment. It is her network of members through which the organisation is based. Because of this, she controls substantial power in the organisation, though her authority over matters is often challenged by Adal.

Valr’s prosthetics, like most of the High Priests, are internalised from view.Beginners are basically humans but with a life span of up to 7 millennia and an intelligence bonus (Non-player race). Basically, millennia ago they were destroyed by their own creations and have since come to be very despondent, drawn blindly to the will of what is presently a mostly-dead god's husk. The Cult of the Dragon is based around it, and leads the much-much larger Legion of the Dragon. Their primary goal is to make life in general very bad, in order to draw lots of people into worship of Elegance en mass, thus awakening them by divine power.

So, what does everyone think?

Except for the beginner stuff and the seven millenia existence, good

Makes one feel like they are pretty much ineffective/background, having existed so long and not done anything majorly evil

Now, if they were a mixture of old-humans looking for the "big-break" and young initiates with radical ideas ......

Needlessly high-powered in my opinion.

Some of it is interesting, but they are just 'handed' immortality for no particular reason. As Warwinner said, they are also ineffective if they have yet to accomplish anything dramatic.

Having weaknesses is good and interesting, and makes the villains far more believable and meaningful.

The Netherese lich or immortal angle would work equally well, and implies some measure of accomplishment. How have they survived these past millenia? A lifespan as long as theirs has been filled with something. Perhaps they were semi-hiding when something united them and moved them into action.

Give each character a reason to be involved in the dark designs that they are.

EDIT: If you want something really scary, try a traitorous Nimbral Lord.

The cult and the legion has existed for some odd millenia already, they are just the ones presently in power. They've been responsible for intergalactic wars, depression, superinflation, political disasters, all in the name of making things really, really terrible.
