A Day In The Life of Grim:

Grim awoke from a peaceful slumber. The silk sheets the enveloped him stirred as he shifted to sit up. His bare muscular chest held a handful of scars and cuts that had not healed properly. He reached for his robe at the side of the bed, hanging on a tall wooden rack. The robe was made of black velvet that shimmered in the light of the rising sun, which seeped through the large window to the right of his bed. He tied the velvet sash, closing the robe to a shut. A few curled chest hairs peaked out of the rim at the top of robe. Grim paused, let out a yawn, and then slowly ran his hand through his disheveled hair. He smiled as he looked around the room. Yeah, he was spoiled all right; he thought as he let out a crude laugh that echoed off the ornate walls.

His face went grim as he looked back at the bed. His head suddenly hurt and a mental flash burned into his head. It was a faded memory. One that caused him much pain to look back on. Through clenched teeth the wealthy noble closed his eyes, remembering. Remembering when he had been in this same room with Sewfae, his lover…old lover. A shock of hate rippled through his veins and his clarity was sent back to him. He would never allow himself to act so weak while in a public setting. Grim straightened himself and pushed back his past emotions. His life had changed since then. He had other things on his mind.

The young man walked to the door, pushing it open with little force. His feet pushed against the floor, causing him to walk in a quickened pace. Grim did not carry his weapon with him. He had forgotten. He swore under his breath, realizing how clumsy his error had been. His mind had been on Sewfae. Love is just a distraction his uncle had warned him. No doubt it was true. Grim entered his room. He glanced at his bed side looking to where his sword should have lain.

Grim smiled. Someone had token his weapons. Perhaps an assassin. Grim whirled around quickly activating the ability to one of his rings. He felt a surge of magical energy thrust into his veins making his speed increase. His feet moved with great agility, pouncing forward, leaping towards the floor and ending in a roll. He lifted his body scanning the area. The assassin was in the room. He listened carefully. Silence. A soft footstep behind him. The killer made his first mistake. Grim kicked backwards, hitting the unknown predator square in the chest, sending him toppling over in a heap by the side of the bed. The assassin quickly gained his balance and pulled a pinch o f crushed diamond dust from one of his many pouches.

Calero swore again at the realization that he was facing a spellcaster. His heart beat a bit faster. He didn’t like wizards. Wizards are weaklings that are only of use as servants. He only liked a wizard when it was on his side. Grim collected himself, and ignored the spell being chanted by the wizard assassin. Grim had no time for this. He lunged forward grabbed the wizard by the neck, forcing him to loose the spell concentration, and threw him at the window. He flew in a swirl of madness, flailing his thin arms wildly. His back met the window; shards of glass splintered the floor.

A wail of agony erupted from the soon-to-be dead assassin. Grim called forth the power of yet another ring, making him levitate. Grim drifted out of the window and down to the village plaza below. The killer twitched and coughed. Grim realized that the damned wizard was muttering a spell. The young noble took his fist and slammed it into his jaw causing a red stream of blood to squirt from his cheek. The minor lord withdrew his sword from the depths of the man’s cloak and held it in front of his neck. He pulled the blade in a swift motion, slicing through the flesh, making him gurgle in a spasm of pain and terror. He would die in a few moments.

Grim smiled. He looted all of the things that seemed of value and the turned and left, moving to the door of the manor, leaving the man to gasp for air in his few moments of life left.

History & Background:

Grim Calero was born into Toril from his ignorant mother and his illegal father. His family, on his father’s side has a long history of evil-doers. It ranges from Bane Knights to assassins. His father seemed to be a disappointment to the family compared to his brothers. Grim’s father makes his living from selling slaves and drugs. His mother comes from a bloodline of farmers, who tend to be rebellious and often known as hot-tempered. Grim is disgraced in his mother and would like to see nothing more then her gravestone. His uncle took Grim in, raising him as a young age, and training him in the art of melee (His uncle is a Purple Dragon Knight) and how to act quickly on your feet. As a minor lord of Cormyr, his uncle knighted Grim at the age of fifteen, granting him the title made the young boy even more ambitious.

Political tension rose in Cormyr as Azoun died. A friend of the Calero family, Guy Culotte, former emissary of Cormyr retired to serve Grim as an advisor as well as a friend. During this turmoil, and great sadness of the loss of Azoun, Grim fell in love.

He was 18 years old, a young muscular teenager with high hopes for himself. He had been dragged along with his uncle to visit a Sembian lord, Grandur, to set up a trade route. There, he met Grandur’s daughter, Sewfae. They fell in love and planned to wed. Sewfae was a slim and fragile fighter who had enrolled in the Harpers. It was spring and Grim had turned 19 years of age.

They were a perfect match. Both had talent in the melee arts, both were muscular and fit, and both were very ambitious and charismatic. Grim announced that they were to be married in exactly one week. Shieldmeet. On Shieldmeet, Grim awoke to find his lover lying next to him in a pool of blood; eyes rolled back, face pale. Dead. Grim vowed to never love again in his life. Something in his heart broke.

A short time after Sewfae’s death a number of events happened in rapid succession.

The first took place at his aunt’s castle. A diviner by the name of Sheldrake Trimmiear. Sheldrake was once a merchant whom made magic items and then sold them for profit. He and his aunt had crossed paths before, through deals. Sheldrake was staying a night at the aunt’s household, to gather rest and spells. Grim was also their meeting with his aunt to discuss the Money lending business he was going to put into action. As he was at his visit, the Divinist had summoned a Chasme, a bug-like demon that thrived on souls of others. The wizard could not contain the demon, it breaking free from his magical contract. The beast would have killed Sheldrake if it were not for Grim who burst through the room, wielding his magical sword. Both the wizard and the fighter slayed the powerful demon, escaping only barley. Grim exited the battle with his right eye almost scraped clean off of his face, and Sheldrake with a large cut running down his chest.

The wizard was taken under Calero’s wing. The next event that occurred was another assassination attempt; a powerful assassin had perfectly planned out the scenario, every detail with care. In the middle of the night, the assassin broke into the room where Calero slept and punctured his chest three times, in the side, in between his ribs. The assassin had raised his dagger, ready for the killing blow before being disinagrated into a heap of ash. The wizard had returned the favor and their trust had grown. Yet not fully, Grim held little trust in people, and it was never to a full extent.

The last event is what triggered an awful seed in the back of Calero’s head. On his way back to his uncle’s hamlet, he witnessed a grotesque scene. A necromancer stood off of the road a bit, using some negative energy beam to suck the life force out of a merchant that had been traveling on the road. Grim took interest in it and stalked towards the necromancer. The necromancer thought Grim a guard or perhaps the merchants hired bodyguard? In any case, the necromancer battled the fighter. In the heat of the battle, the fighter had not correctly dodged the swiftness of a powerful spell, getting caught in its destruction. The weave flowed through him. It consumed him, crushing him to pulp. He was killed. He had been slain in battle. A few seconds later he felt life return to him, his heart beat again, his body revived. He lay staring up into the cold unforgiving eyes of the necromancer.

He said to him “Necromancy is a strong gift in deed. I will spare you once my boy, but not a second, should our path cross once more. Pity your skill with the blade is to be wasted on your lack of arcane lore.” The necromancer winked out of view. That seed in his head had been fertilized. The power to kill and give life. He might have use for such a power.

We have now ended here, in current time, a few days before Sheildmeet where our stubborn knight reads over a letter sent from him by Guy. His slim face is shrouded in the darkness of mystery as he reads the last sentence of the letter. A wide grin splits across his face as he looks up from the parchment.

“Its time for another adventure.” He cackled.

Something moved from behind him. A half-elf with one mission. To take down Grim.

Appearance:

Age: 20

Gender: male

Build: muscular

Features: Strong jaw line, thin pursed lips, scar on lip, smooth skin

Accessories: Crown

Clothing: luxurious, uniform

Equipment: Weapons (Longsword, shortsword, dagger)

Profession: Noble/Knight

Other Information:

Grim doesn’t feel at home anywhere. He feels somewhat rejected and is always striving to gain approval from his peers, because of this he doesn’t really focus on his emotion baggage. He will mostly keep to himself, content with being alone and in a quiet place, yet he will put on a good show to impress people or simply deceive them.

Grim is happy with his melee, yet he hungers for some type of arcane power to add with his melee forming a powerful foe. He wants to gain power politically, money wise, and personal power. Grim wishes to accomplish this through the power of intimidation, lies, trickery, and cruelty.

The young noble is not very enthseastic about dwarves, not to mention gnomes. They are too eager and comedic to take serious. Dwarves are just numb and don’t know when to stop where as gnomes are pesky and are often found in the middle of trouble. Grim does not tolerate both races. He also doesn’t adore his race, knowing fully well that they are weak willed and mostly all slobs that don’t have the strength or intelligence to stand up for themselves. Of course not every human is like this, but Grim has delt with so many that are, his perception is clouded.

One view that Grim thinks is true is that females should know their place. They are not to be tossed into the web of politics nor are they to defy their male mate. He mistakes this as a sign of weakness rather then a sign of love, (even though Sewfae had told Grim off more then a few times).

His stubborn ways are what make Grim, himself.

Deity:

Grim worships the minor god Gargauth, who is the god of betrayal, cruelty, political corruption, and power brokers. As being a devil cast from the nine hells, he is filled with hate and has vowed to seek revenge. Currently he roams Toril corrupting and causing large amounts of chaos under his name.

Grim worships his god faithfully; almost every slain victim that falls prey to his blade is sacrificed to Gargauth. He wears his holy simple under his armor, protecting it from the public. He claims to worship Waukeen and the only one whom knows his true god is Oswald McCarthy who had walked in on Grim muttering a prayer to his true lord. Grim will often curse “What in the nine hells.” Or he might mutter under his breath “Gargauth save us.” He is careful not to reveal his true god. For if he did, it might cause conflict that could end his nobility.

Quirks:

-When in battle Grim will squeeze the hilt of his sword so hard that his knuckles will turn white.

-He is obsessed about his clean stature and will not accept a sloppy job on anything.

-Grim does not cry, he hasn’t cried since he was a boy. (Even when Sewfae died)

-He eats perfectly and slowly, cutting everything into perfect size and organizing them on his plate.

Ok, I past some parts, and fast-forwarded some other, but read the whole.

1) Guy Culotte. Find another name. In French, Culotte means slip or trousers.

2) Is he born evil or good? He comes from an evil familly, known to have assassins and knights of Bane, his father is trading slaves, he despises his mother, yet another uncle is a Purple Dragon Knight (usually good guys, no?), and his girlfriend is an Harper (also usually good guys).

3) Low Constitution: give him a constant caugh. That would be his lone weakness and shame.

4) Feats: why both Run and Mounted Combat?

5) Class: I suggest Fighter/Rogue/Paladin of Tyranny, and perhaps Hexblade.

6) Skills: Definitively add Use Magic Device. He looks more like someone who will use magic items than cast spells.

7) “Gargauth save us.” Better say: "Gargauth damn them!" ;)

1) haha, I know, my DM made him.

2) Neutral. My uncle is neutral, he is the "black sheep" in the family. The rest are evil. He was basically neutral until his girlfriend was killed. Then he went into a form of deppression.

3) Cough you mean?

4) Those were ideas, just listing possible things.

5) Whats the paladin of Tyranny?

6) Okay.

7) Haha, yeah.

Thanks a bunch.
