This is my Warforge Monk. I used bits and pieces from the Heromachine illustrator (screen capture). Some cutting and pasting and some airbrushing (first ever attempt), lightening, darkening and paint fill.

Set 10 years after the big war.

His name is Klunk and he's "2" years old. He basically dug himself out of a mud pit after heavy rain on an old battlefield. He has no memory before "waking up" trapped in mud and struggling to get out. Eventually he freed himself and having no idea what, who or where he is he began walking in a random direction. Days, weeks and months passed before he came across a remote monastery. There the monks take Klunk into the monastery and let him stay if he helps out. It is there that he has his first contact with sentient creatures and his nature is revealed to him. The origin of his race is interesting to him but not much more than that. There he spends time at the monastery working it's garden, fixing things and living in the garden shed. Watching the Monks practice their martial arts stirs something inside of him. Vague sensations and flashes of near memory. Sensing a kind of familiarity in the monks sparing and katas he begins imitating the Monks and there esoteric martial arts. Seeing this the amused monks allow him to train along side them and teach him there doctrines and philosophy.

Yadda yadda...they become friends, name him Klunk for the sound he made the first time he was thrown in the dojo...

Thoughts?

I like the basic concept of the warforged monk (by the way, it is warforged not waforge), but the history seems unimaginitive, cliched, and a little bit unrealistic. I mean, for a person not to remember anything is at least close to reasonable (though it become a bit odd when half of the characters don't remember their pasts), but for a living construct that's mental proccesses are not chemical, but rather magical it's a bit harder to understand. Now, you might say "well then magic messed up his memory," as living constructs the magic in them works just like in any other race, you can't dispell the magic used to make a warforged. Also, I really like the picture.

What I would do is drop the cliched amnesia thing and have him have been trapped in the ground from a battle, perhaps some artillery-like spell opened a crater and then another filled it in with him still in it. Now it would be reasonable for this to have happened in Cyre (assuming you're using Eberron, which I assume since you said "big war" and are a warforged) and he was protected from the blast because he was buried. So, one of the living spells happens to soften the ground or get rid of it, and the warforged can finally emerge. However, lose the concept of memory loss, I mean the only real reason for memory loss is to not have to deal with the background until later (people certainly don't do it for the originality).

This shouldn't hurt the character concept too much as the only thing a warforged who fought in the war is likely to remember is training and fighting, they're called WARFORGED for a reason, they're forged for war and at the time of the Great War, pretty much ONLY FOR WAR. You could perhaps expand on this, all the time he spent trapped (if it was due to the great war, he'd have been trapped something like three decades assuming he was built fairly early in the production run of House Cannith) he spent meditating as he could not move. Thus, when he was freed, he went to seek out a new life and it was natural for him to join the monks. His unarmed training with the military caused him to try to emulate the monks and he took well to martial arts. You can fill in the rest.

In closing, I'd just like to point out that from a roll-play standpoint (and most good games are role-play and roll-play somewhat equally, especially in Eberron) your character will be on the lower end of the power scale. Warforged natural composite plating counts as armour for a monk, so you don't get to use tons of the monk's class abilities.

Also, really, Clunk? That's one of the most stereotypical and cliched names possible for a warforged. Why not something more like a name and less like a word?
