| radu the wanderer02-04-05, 03:26 PM | here's a post I made in the Eberron board, also quite appropriate here: 1) You are Warforged. A living weapon, created with one purpose in mind: combat. You need neither weapon nor armor-- you ARE a weapon. Your singular focus gives you amazing capabilities, things that would seem magical to others, but you know it to be a matter of timing, observation, and precision. During the Last War, you fought and killed just like everyone else did, but now that you've been granted your freedom... you don't know what to do with it. What does a living weapon do when the war it was created to fight no longer rages? What will you make of these amazing abilities that now no longer have a use? Concept for a warforged monk character. 2) During the Last War, you saw a lot of action on the battlefield. Most of your comrades didn't survive. You witnessed fellow warforged mowing down opponents like a scythe through wheat. You came to realize that you have truly been blessed with your creation-- rather than crude, breakable FLESH you are steel and stone. You need no food or drink, only occasional maintenance. You are, in short, perfect. There's just one problem-- the creation forges have been shut down. House Cannith is a mockery of its former glory. You seek to change that. You will decipher the riddles of magical creation one by one until you can produce your own forge. Only then can the warforged achieve the glory they were created for. You hear that somewhere in the Mournlands like minded warforged are gathering together under the Lord of Blades. Perhaps he can help you bring about a New Age for your kind... Concept for a warforged artificer. 3) You don't remember the Last War, or your "birth," or even your name--- if you ever had one. Your first memories are blurry, distorted images of tortured, blasted soil and smoke-filled air. A horrible screeching fills the air. Something moves in the distance. You stand up slowly, battered frame creaking in protest. Whatever it is, it's getting closer. Not knowing why, you drop into a low crouch, left arm held at a low angle out in front of you, right arm pulled back next to your head. A phrase flashes through your head ("Cloak Stance") then it's gone. Suddenly, a dark shape rushes through the mist, charging you. Without thinking, you lash out at the beast, balling your hand into a fist and driving it with all your force into its ribcage. There is a sharp hiss, a slurping, cracking sound followed by a squeal of pain. The creature falls dead at your feet. Looking at your blood-coated hand in horror, you see a shimmering blade of energy emanating from your knuckles. Another word ("Mindblade") flashes through your head "Where did this come from," you wonder. "How do I know these things? WHAT'S GOING ON?" Concept for warforged soulknife, my current PC. 4) You were not "built for battle," as some people say. It's true, you're good at it, but in the Last War, it was fight or die. You chose the former, but now that you no longer need to fight for survival you wonder what you will do. Some find their newfound freedom frightening; you revel in it. During the war you didn't have time to look at the world around you and take in the majesty of it all; now that you can, you don't ever want to go back. You made your way to the Eldeen reaches and started a quiet, peaceful existence a short march away from a small settlement. At first, the locals were disturbed by your presence, but after the first season's harvest their fears subsided. It was a harvest you couldn't enjoy the fruits of but helped to bring about nevertheless-- creation and growth give you satisfaction in a way dealing death never did. You were truly happy-- until a group of marauding bandits led by some of your comrades from the War sacked the town. You swore to hunt them to the ends of Khorvaire if necessary. They took away your life; it's only fair to return the favor. Concept for a warforged ranger, one of my favorites. Feel free to comment or add your own concepts. If you do, please continue the paragraph format above-- you don't have to, of course, but I find it's more satisfying than a few sentences. I started character concept writing this way because I found it gives you so much more "meat" to work off of than a few phrases do. With pre-fab PC's and NPC's especially this method works well, because for both you have to readily pick out character traits and motivation without the benefit of a two page historical essay. |
| Rickiel02-08-05, 11:49 PM | Depressed Warforged Character Concept You are built for war. You have a strength and dexterity at 18, your constitution is 20. You have a Mithral Body. And you wield a really big and sharp object... problem is though... You never fought before in your existence! And you've been around for over 10 years! Built during the war, you were somehow always the last to see action. Check that, you NEVER saw action, despite all the running TO said action, the battle was always over before you got there. And seeing fellow Warforged getting mowed down, shredded, then eventually expelled out of society's collective ******, it's all coming down on you. There is no hope, no future, you can't even do what it is you are SUPPOSE to do so well... Well maybe those adventurers can help you find the meaning of life.... provided you have one.... Oh sure, slaughtering monsters might make you proud for awhile.... but you never quite get over the fact that you should've been up there in the front lines with your 'kin'. |
| Giver_of_Rings02-15-05, 03:45 PM | You are a living thing. Perhaps, perhaps not. You know that you think and feel. You were once created to destroy as were your brethren. You survived among some some precious few. Now you are cast aside your use fulfilled. Cast aside with your brethren, there are complications no other living things have had to experience. Created by living dying things, you cannot die, and you yourself cannot create living dying things. Not as of yet...but perhaps that is your impetus. To understand, to embrace life, to manufacture life. Perhaps it is time that you uncover the secret of your creation. Perhaps it is time to "Go forth and multiply." Ironic, absolutely; enlightened without a doubt. And perhaps along the way you may snuff some smaller flames, but the Hearth of the One Forge burns bright in your soul. You know you have a soul, you were told as much. |
