Ves was a standard warforged warrior, who became inert during some battle some centuries ago. (fighter level 1, with the warforged fighter sub level and an adamantine body). Carrying a bastard sword and a shield strapped to his back. He typically uses the sword two-handed of course, but from time to time he takes the penalty and brings out the shield for added protection as the situation dictates. (standard sword and board fighter type). After he is re-activated (not sure about how this will be done yet, a paladin, cleric, artificer, spontaneous, I’m still debating this part). He discovers that when he performs acts of good or with just motives that he seems to feel more powerful with each action, he can not explain where the power comes from, he just knows its there within him, in his soul. Segue: I’m going to go crazy here, but follow along. So lets pretend that Warforged have souls, and that souls can’t be just magically created, poof! there’s a shiny new soul (well maybe gods can). They have to come from somewhere. From somewhere, but where? a living soul? a dead one? Did they create some magical device to rip them from the planes after people have died and their souls have moved on? Does that upset the gods? hey that’s mine! Or did they just throw some dude into a chamber and sucked it out of him, tossing it thru a filter and jamming it in the warforged? Normally who’d miss a peasant or two-hundred, but what if they tossed in a powerful guy, just to get ride of him, and what if the process turns him into a lich or something just as nasty cool. Or a combo of the above ideas. Now, lets say that the soul needs to be pure, no remnants of the previous owner, divine freshness, in order to merge with the warforged to create/merge with its consciousness. But are they? Does some part of the previous owner actually influence the path the warforged takes, so say the dude was a cleric or paladin, maybe that will influence the warforged to the divine, etc. you get the idea. Hey lich’s are cool! Lets say that there is a nice brooding lich a little miffed about the situation he’s in, and the hapless warforged wanders by, and the lich sniffs his soul sitting nice and cozy warm in tin can with legs. Arch-villain, plot twists, adventures. Meanwhile: Our friendly warforged is discovering his for the first time, although he can’t explain it. Divinity is a concept a little out of his grasp at the moment, he can’t even put a name on the god that grants him this power if there is one, he just feels the influence, guiding him and granting him power. So he starts taking paladin levels. Eventually learning how to use the shield and the sword without penalty (exotic weapon feat), possibly even upgrading to a armblade (a holy one if he’s lucky), modifying his armor with command for more paly-power. I can see him wanting to perfect himself, as both divine and warforged, so he starts to turn into a juggernaught. Story time: warforged fighter/paladin/juggernaughts aren’t afraid of the dark! Ves stands in the darkened dusty ruins, his body armor glowing slightly in the moonlight, armblade at the ready. (camera pans out to reveal he is surrounded by undead). His eyes glow a bright blue and he charges into them, bursting thru their lines, wading thru the undead like a machine, his armblade comes down hard on a zombie slicing it in two, his other hand reaches out towards another group, and they burst into dust and flame, some surrounding undead panic. Stepping out of what is left of the slain ones at his feet, he again glances over his shoulder (past the zombie stuck to the spikes on his back, from the previous melee), toward the remaining undead and sets for another charge. That’s the skeleton of the background, and possible path he will go on. What do you think? Am I all over the map? Or does it have potential. |
