Okay, so I got my girlfriend interested in playing with me and she's rather more interested in the character/story-telling aspect of the game than anything else (which is great). So, she wanted to know if there were any websites where people posted their game characters diaries or journals or what have you of their background, adventures, thoughts, goals, etc. that she could read and eventually put her own character's own as well for others. I tried looking for this sort of thing, but really had no idea what to enter in the search engine and could only find generic dnd sites so I figured I'd ask here and see if anyone knew of this sort of thing. If you do, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Also, it would be great if anyone could point me in the direction of some good teaching resources to try to get people into things easily, perhaps with some sample adventures and whatnot. I kind of have the feeling she'll get bored before we even start if I just try teaching the multitude of combat and movement rules and the like when she's really more interested in just acting out and fantasizing her character (you know, role-playing, heh). Thanks for any information on this too.

:uh-huh: A character... with a... livejournal.

Come to think of it, that's actually not a bad idea. It'd be the first livejournal ever that wasn't just a bunch of emo attention-*****ing and whining.

So, I take it then there isn't anything like this? Granted, most of the discussion on this boards is more about "roll-playing" but I still figured there'd be some out there who are into, well, not that, heh. Also, what about some good learning resources? Is this not the forum to ask?

I had one at one point and used it to help "record" my PC's various thoughts on events. It helped with consistency and I got a bit of a kick out of it.

I don't these days because one of the group members thought the cleric was too powerful and threw a small fit (I played a party-focused buffer and healer, so I was buffing all the other PCs  ). It pretty much sapped the enjoyment out of playing.

I've thought of picking up another...my current PC is a half-dazed, overwhelmed bounty hunter. He's not sure what he's doing in the middle of a city, and discovered this great thing called "whisky," which his race didn't have access to. ;) Of course, this also means no one wants to hire him, but he's decently good at what he does when he does get his act together.

So, journals can be a means of character consistency, or records-keeping. Sometimes they help sort out what a PC /really/ thinks about a current situation, because they become a sort of internal monologue.

I've never tried one online, but for a while I kept a pen and paper journal of one of my characters.

I think that one of the older Ravenloft fansites has/had a section for character journals.

Depending on the campaign, Candlekeep has a place for that but it is Forgotten Realms based. There are also a couple LJ communities for gaming...I don't know of one specifically for campaign journals though.

I did create an LJ community once for an evil game (short-lived), where in addition to rping oppurtunities, I posted my characters journel entries as well. So creating an LJ journal for her character isn't unreasonable I would think.
