| Snalueh09-26-07, 09:47 PM | My (current) characters name is Snalueh Flameheart. He is a fighter (with Armored Savant). He is a descendant from a long line of knights specialized in fire (Warrior of Fire). He was traveling with a friend (Dwarven Rogue) in an ancient tunnel connected to a dwarven city when they found a poster warning people about werewolves. So, being the adventurers they were, the two headed to some authoratives asking about the werewolves and found theyr was a price on the werewolf pelts and so they set off to find some werewolves. It didn't take long and they took out one werewolf quite easily, but Snalueh was cought by surprise and was biten by the werewolf. Now he is a werewolf and I was just wondering if you could give some advice about playing a NG werewolf fighter. |
| Alodar_Advo09-26-07, 10:22 PM | Step One: Eat Dwarven Rogue. Step Two: .... Step Three: Profit! I'm curious to see what people think. |
| CrimsonDeath09-27-07, 03:17 AM | I don't suppose you guys are high enough level to gain access to a Remove Curse spell? |
| Fithero09-27-07, 03:55 AM | I don't suppose you guys are high enough level to gain access to a Remove Curse spell? Or a silver weapon? Depending on how you want to go about things...:plotting: |
| rastlin_of_the_tomes09-27-07, 08:22 AM | no remove curse doesnt work if he has changed once for any reason already, they need break enchantment. well just to say, you ether can go evil, being only an infected you cant keep your own alignment if you change willingly, however the change brought on by injury is still available to you if you dont want to lose the benifits of being a lycanthropic PC. storyline wise, it could be a stuggle to hold on to your own will or fall into depravity and bloodlust. |
| Drag0nUL09-27-07, 08:44 AM | I think you should talk with your DM and see how much is he going to enforce the alignment part. If he does play it by the book I don't think it is possible to play an afflicted werewolf without severely disrupting a campaign. Sooner or later you are going to fail that Will save and permanently become CE. Still, if your DM is going to show some lenience for the sake of an interesting game, roleplaying the struggle between your character's good nature and the lycanthropic instincts might be quite rewarding. |
| Tjuk09-27-07, 10:19 AM | Well i see a rather easy solution.... you begin to struggle with yourself... and the only thing you want to do is protect humanity for having to struggle with the same problem.... So you decide to hunt the lycantrophe's down. And try to rid the world from them. And by time you occasionatly turn into your lycantrophe being more bloodlusting then you already are ( your DM wouldn't change your alignment.... since it's obvious that it's a whole other person in that lycantrophe body then the actual you, and since you act like you regret the damage that you do it's all good :D ).... ooh and not to forget a raging menace for your team members.... but hey it's all in good fun... and if it is getting to crowded for him... with your multiple personality it might be good for him to stay away.... or maybe join in for the fun :) (you might want to go for a few levels ranger for favored enemy) |

| CrimsonDeath09-27-07, 03:22 PM | problem, unless you are of evil alignment you can not make your own race a favored enemy, and hes one of them now. In 3.0, you couldn't. In 3.5, they realized that Half-Orc Rangers might want to hunt Orcs, and Elven Rangers might want to hunt Drow. |
| BigBobSr600009-27-07, 05:06 PM | In the original Werewolf movies with Lon Chaney, Jr. he was good in human form. He only changed during the full moons and would kill anyone he encountered and evade capture. During the periods between full moons, he did what he could to find a cure or be rid of the curse. He would also go out of his way most times to help others. When came close to the full moon, he would seek out ways to confine himself. He would chain himself; ask to be locked in the local jail, locked in a room, etc. So, he was at least Neutral Good (?) in human form and Chaotic Evil in the Werewolf form. I had players who fought it all the way and eventually found a way to at least suppress if not get cured. This was over a long period of time with my approval on the how and why. Others didn't worry about it one way or the other, after a few failed saves, the party was attacked by him or vise versa. New character roll-ups.... The point is it depends on the way the player plays his character and discussions with the GM in private about it. |
| Snalueh09-28-07, 09:33 PM | Okay just to let you know: -I have not yet transformed -The next full moon (campaign wise) is a full month away -This character is relatively low-level -No NPCs no my character is a lycanthrope So yeah. I'm thinking of trying to control the lycanthropic side of me for as long as possible, but just in case some of the party members carry silver weapons and I have a silver dagger. I was already thinking of multiclassing to Wizard or Warmage to get a couple of spells and so now I would also get a better Will save from it. Would it be worth it to multiclss to a spellcasting class? Also are there any special werewolf feats that could help me control my lycanthrope side? |
| stolenchariot09-29-07, 07:00 PM | well, there are no feats I know of, but the MM has the control shape skill listed in it, so that should become available to you. It's a wisdom-based skill, and allows checks to maintain your natural form even when outside forces would trigger an involuntary change. |

I'm not sure if you get access to the skill before your first change, though. (Fortunately, you do get it as a class skill regardless of your class, even if you multiclass later; personally, I'd dump all the skill points from my Animal HD into it.) |
| Ian031109-29-07, 11:17 PM | You don't get it as a class skill before you change, unfortunately. |
| Terjon of the Blue Rose09-30-07, 12:33 AM | Personally, I'd talk to the DM and see if I couldn't find some sort of reasonably obtainable magic item to control the form change. I don't think on exist but there is no reason for him not to make on. Say an elaborate silver chain that takes a full round to don or remove and which completely suppresses the abilaty to change except under a full moon? |
| FarrenCronwing09-30-07, 10:19 AM | I forgot what book it was in, but there was some sort of magic item that made you immune to polymorph affects. You couldn't wild shape or any of the alter form abilities. I don't see why these immunities wouldn't spread to lycanthropy, but if you're unable to find the item, you could work with the DM to make an item similar to it. Alternatively, you could find some way to contain yourself before your changes (Manacles, anybody?;) ) I'd go with something silver or adamantine, if you were forced to keep yourself down. Just my two cents. |
| Tjuk10-01-07, 07:55 AM | well personaly i don't see a reason to supress it.... i think it's alot of fun and a good roleplaying twist your DM gives... and i think you should better embrace the fact then actually try to supress it. Just be certain when your DM tells you you start to change to run away as fast as you can and hide in a place where your friend can't find you... and if you find him well touch luck let's hope he's good at running, but in any case try to make a deal with your DM that you are not able to kill your friend, that you would put him uncauntious rather then kill him, lets just say that the character is trying to supress the rage of the monster, and runs away to hunt other people/ things. It gives your friend something to be scared off aswell and he'll meet with you from time to time. he might start to see the beast as a archvillian which is hunting him, he might not suspect you from being that same monster. |
| CrimsonDeath10-01-07, 02:59 PM | Just be certain when your DM tells you you start to change to run away as fast as you can and hide in a place where your friend can't find you... Won't work. Changing is a standard action, and hiding is a move action. If you wait until you change, you can only hide five feet from where you started. Alternatively, you could forget about hiding, in which case you would probably be 30 feet away (for an average character in light or no armor). |
| Tjuk10-03-07, 07:08 AM | True enough, but that's again something he might be able to discuss with his DM. though. wether he is feeling he is going to in a minute or so... whatever... you should probably have a feeling before you change right? :P |
