| Prophet of Chaos07-24-04, 12:08 PM | Lord Zandor Lord Zandor is one of the most ancient beings in the cosmos. Although no one can saw for sure when he was born it has been said that 5,000 is the youngest he could possibly be. This theory is made all the more intriguing by the fact that he is (or was) human. The endless centuries of his life have changed and altered both his mind and his body. He despises beings who refuse to take responsibility for their actions by claiming that things "just happen". He believes in that right and wrong, good and evil, are not subjective terms, but static principles that do not change regardless of how anyone thinks of them. He is also (and possibly contradictory) a believer in extremes. If one is going to be evil why not be really evil. He hates to see anything half done or half felt. If it's already broken why not blow it up completely? At times he may uphold "the Law" but he is quite disruptive to individuals and organizations he feels are wicked or lukewarm. (BTW this is an epic NPC Wizard in case you were wondering.) |

In the D&D multiverse, this is true. The alignments shape the planes, and are very real, although you'd never know it from the way they were handled in 3e and 3.5e. This guy's alignment is pretty hard. He seems Evil, probably either NE or CE, although I suppose he could also be CN. |
| Eilistraeeeee07-25-04, 02:51 PM | i guess that if he has these "destructive tendencies" he'd probably be CE or maybe NE if he tried to temper it a little. CN is more for the NPC who is becoming bored of the terror he inspires and just kinda stopped:D . N is maybe the most intruiging of all three/four IMHO U could make him just lose interest in nearly all things (I'd get bored somewhere around 5,000) except the most powerful.. He doesn't care about the things he does, wether they be good or evil he just tries to avoid as much of others as possible. Add your own little depth and background motives and there u go... just my 2 coppers |

(BTW this is an epic NPC Wizard in case you were wondering.) Your whole post screams lawful alignment at the very least. Why the other people seem to think that the NPC is NE or CE is beyond me. More to my frustration that people either don't read and reread people's posts for comprehension and/or that they don't understand the D&D alignment system. Since he despises people who don't take responsibility for their actions, is a believer in the extremes of morality, and feels things need to be done full out and not half-hearted, then he's definitely a lawful character. Now to determine if he's good/neutral/evil is another matter entirely and I'm not sure I have enough info to make an accurate decision. People who are good and/or neutral in alignment tend to be disruptive to evil people and organizations. Being that you said that he also doesn't like lukewarm people (those of a neutral alignment), it would seem that he could possibly be a Lawful Good character. However, I don't know exactly how far and in what manner his disruptions are. If he's not making sure that the neutral people are innocents and thus protected from his wrath, then he sounds more Lawful Neutral than anything regardless that he might feel that he's a LG paladin of sorts. Take the god St. Cuthbert for instance. He's the god of vengence and is Lawful Neutral because he's single minded about his vengence against wrongdoers without much concern if the person is innocent or not. This NPC wizard might be such a character from your description, but you'd have to flesh out the details more for us by telling us how he'd react in a few specific scenarios. |
| Prophet of Chaos07-25-04, 11:17 PM | Now there's the answer I was looking for! You're right. I had thought of him being Lawful in some way but I couldn't figure out which axis he leaned toward. I had also thought of the fact that after 5,000 + years he might not care about anything. But I prefer the Lawful X version. These days Lord Zandor rarely walks the (in his view) confined spaces of the Prime. But when he does massive cataclysms ensue. Viewed by some as a mythological judge of civilizations, Zandor has lifted his sword against many nations. He fights against lukewarm nations whose lack of conviction endangers the world, evil nations whose corruption and wickedness should be punished, and even good nations he feels have become hypocrital (is that even a word?) etc. But I would imagine that he rarely attacks good beings. However Zandor believes that the ends justify the means, and even the innocent might be trampled in pursuit of a noble goal. |

He is lawful hardcore without limitations of good or evil to interfere with his decisions. I'm glad I was of some help. |
| Morka07-27-04, 09:05 PM | When he prefers that something already broken should be completely blown, it sounds more like anger, frustration and cynism to me. This old mage of 5000 years old should have very little patience with the young ones. He should have a pretty low charisma. |
| Kitt-su07-28-04, 12:07 AM | Not to toss myself into the air to shot at here, but I think destroying people cause you feel they aren't hardcore enough is pretty chaotic. As much as there has been said on this guy, I would say he is True/Neutral. As much as he thinks he is commiting to a lawful cause, I think raising sword to folk who are extreme one way or the other is chaotic, yet he performs for lawful ends. He takes no heed in good vs. evil. So I'd toss him to the True/Neutral section. Either way, Law/Neutral sounds well enough, but I don't see society slaughter as lawful. |
