| Cade Hedger10-04-04, 10:54 PM | ok, im currently playing a CN halfling bard 11/rogue 3. Ended up taking charge of the party and is the face of the group where ever we go, standard terrier type; small, loud mouth, likes to fight but is always outmatched, often ignored but everyone follows him, and the NPC's (most of them) more or less like him. Even tho he doesnt act it and they may not think so, he is fericely loyal to his friends. We shall call him Cade :D Thats the character, now for the situation.. Over the course of adventures Cade is hooked by a peice of NPC tail (violet)... so he was messing around with her for a good while (about a year game time) and became attached, then out of nowhere another NPC (Dio) that Cade was begining to trust, stages a distraction for the group while he attacks the castle where Cade's lover is employed as an alchemist, and she is killed in the defence of the castle. Cade swears to avenge his love even though he (and I even more so) knows that he probably will never be able to and is sure to die if he tries. Dio is an absolute monster of an NPC with only a single weakness, he is completely magical to the point of being broken. Cade has already attemped once while within the confines of a high level anit-magic field but Dio was protected from him by other party members and even in his weakened state Dio was still able to pummel Cade into the groud luckly it was subdual and he was called off by the same people who stopped Cade. Now the question, should i continue with this plot angle? It obvious that Dio is an importiant character for the DM and i would rather not chase after Dio cuz hes gona kick my ass but its how the character thinks, if you anyone can point out alignment flaws plz do, i want to find a way to save cades life but i dont see it happening. |
| Morka10-05-04, 06:47 PM | Is Cade only a trouble-seeker, or does he have some diplomacy skills? He knows that Dio is too strong for him, but if he could have some kind of high-level PC/monster attack Dio, he will be avenged. Most often, a Chaotic character will trust very few people (in your case, other PCs); such character will prefer to do things their own way. He should concentrate on his own strength, instead that on Dio weakness (that is not a very great weakness, IMHO!) So, what is Cade's greatest strength? |
| Cade Hedger10-06-04, 01:28 AM | Right now cade its the best (Read: only) diplomat in the group. he has talked his way out of several hostile situations already including but not limited to the near excution of the entire party. a rather large monster chased us through a few towns destroying everything as it went. it wasnt our fault (turned out to be a pet of Dio's) but the local ruler saw it otherwise, Cade managed to talk it down to excuting only one of our members, a NPC the DM was going to remove anyway cuz he was too strong and was taking away from the party plus we started to abuse his skills ie: fighting battles we shouldnt. At this stage in the game cade could probably sell air to fish or glasses to a blind man, im more of a hinderance cuz i can never come up with specific things to say off the top of my head all the time. All of Cades strength lies in roleplaying, and avoiding combat altogether, hes just a little Bard trying to make a little money, find a couple "lady friends" and not to get stepped on but he ended up caught and more or less abandened by his party in the middle of a battle for the fate of the planet. As for Dio's weakness, it may not seem like a great weakness, but just standing in an anti-magic field of sufficent strength causes Dio to slowly fall apart. It forces him to use most of his effort to hold him self together but eventually the strain causes him to weaken to the point collapse, that one time i just happened to be already wounded and he got the jump on me after one of his guardians jumped in front of my shot. As of now Cade is trying to work his way into the resources of a rather high level fighting mage (seabastion/longinus) cursed with immortatlity, the bad news is this wizard is very apathetic about things not directly tied to removing his curse plus its the same guy who excuted one of our members so the rest of my group refuses to have anything to do with him. This guy could take Dio out easily if he wanted to, the one time they met was during the raid when voilet was killed and seabastion mopped the floor with him but let Dio go cuz he would rather send others, such as Cade, to "catch it for study." He hands out a few items here or there but nothing that would really help contain Dio. And since Cade could never really Catch Dio seabastion gets all pissy and threatens the whole group and cade ends up deeper in his service. Right now im not really sure if the DM is gonna use Dio for some later plot or if he just likes watching me get the tar beat out of me over and over (some of the things i say during times of crisis are comical) but its clear that Cade isnt catching Dio anytime in the near future but Cade would refuse to give up no matter the odds. But if anyone reading this wants more of the background leading to this mess say so and ill post the link to the site where the DM dramatizes all our sessions. |
