The boards have undergoand an upgrade recently, not everyone is up to date with the changes yet.

That or you've made a thread that people just arnt interested in responding too. I know that i personally never post in threads about ebberon characters because i never play in that setting.

Dont take it personally and give it some time.

Peace

These boards aren't particularly popular. Sad but true.

When you post something that the regulars find interesting, you'll see replies. Like, Nived said, these aren't terrible poplar boards, so the people here are kind of picky. If we don't like what you have to say, we won't encourage it.

I am taking a look at your other post "Plz review my Background"

http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=691223

and I have a few non-character questions for you

What is your original language?

How old are you?

How long have you been playing RPG's?

**************

Your response's to these questions will help me better phrase my answers/suggestion to you.

Well while I really do not see what that has to do with anything. My orignal language is english, I am 26 and I played 2ed in highschool. I have just started playing 3.5E. There is not a lot of players were I am from so I was trying to actual make a character background. Iam not trying to be a D$#k about it but I have posted other things and noone has said anything. One could at lest say have that sucked try again. It is the quite that upsets me.

Since you don't understand why the answers to my questions matter

1) As an English major and former ESL instructor I have experiences with communicating with differing levels of english competence; as such many differences will/would be utilized in how I phrase the concerns, advice or suggestions.

As English is your mother tongue I will not need to ask further questions in this area.

2) As a teacher/coach/tutor/mentor I have professional instruction experience with age groups from 3.5(lower kindergarten) to 53 (tutor) Many of my responses/advice/reactions will be based upon an approximation of your maturity level by your stated age.

With younger individuals I am much more tolerant and willing to aid even in the face of most common sense - with older individuals - I do not have to be quite so tolerant, understanding nor willing. You must be willing to undergo reasonable, mature, constructive criticism or forgoe my assistance.

3) An understanding of your duration/experiences as an RPG player is important for assisting me in further understanding your concerns and the resulting style of assistance I will offer.

*********

AS an example

English as a third language (with limited instruction, practice and experience in the english language) - 14 year old - third time playing - first year as a player - wanted to play with a group of mixed native-english and excellent ESL individuals

The preson was very creative but their understanding of english was fairly limited - I often had to define and or explain terms/phrases that you and I should have little difficulty with.

The maturity level of the person allowed me to understand their rationale for many of the character background (roel-playing) choices made by the player

The lack of rules knowledge meant that I often had to assist the player with the difference between what they wanted in their character background and what was possible with the rules at a certain level. We as a group normally started game play between levels 1-3

On one occasion we started a scenario only to allow this particular player to have a creative background they had worked on for weeks - to match their creative talents all the players were starting with 15th level characters :) something this group rarely ever attained through long term play.

I offered to help and will do so -- but as to the answers I posted

How are they rude(discourteous)? In what way is admitting that I am willing to help but that I consider certain factors by those asking for comments/assistance as relevant to both the level and style of response I offer.

By disregarding the varied RPG experiences, creative talents, ages, and language abilities of forum users I would be rude.

Instead I asked a few relevant questions and decide how best to respond - that anyone would think I would not offer assistance after asking the questions is not based on a review of my behaviour nor recent posts.

****

Fithero that you think I must help all equally is misquided at best.

I am under no requirement nor duty to assist any person on these forums - nor all persons equally. That I ( and others - very much including yourself ) choose to assist when, where and how we can is our individual choice and privilege.

That I choose to assist others for no other reason than to further a sense of community between RPGers is my desicion. That I choose to base my level and style of response(s) upon certain factors is in no way rude(discourteous).

Yeeeeeeeeeeeah:bored: is anyone else finding this guy annoyingly arrogant?

Look erbmjw, you do it your way, ill do it mine.

Just please... for the sake of all the readers... keep the concieted babble to a minimum.

I think the real arrogance is in calling someone else arrogant for varying his responses based on certain criteria.

The OP wanted to know why he's not getting replies to his requests. That someone doesn't reply (or modifies his reply) based on certain standards of literacy, effort, etc, is a legitimate response.

If someone posts a garbled Wall O' Text because they're having difficulty with the language, they may still be worth assisting. If they post a garbled Wall O' Text because they lack the respect to put any effort into their request, maybe it's not worth putting any effort into responding to them. What's wrong with trying to ascertain why a request isn't up to expectations, before deciding how to respond to it?

Well i believe it to be arrogance when one thinks others undeserving of their aid.

But hey... thats just me, what the hell do i know.:looloo:

Ok I am really not trying to be rude but I really had a hard time understanding what you are trying to say erbmjw and I am a Law student. To me that was a lot of words that could have been sumed up as I may or may not respond to your post and if you are older I may be rude. At lest I think thats what you were trying to say.

I have been a lot less active lately, though I must admit that when people use "plz", "lol", excessive use of questionmarks and/or exclaimationmarks (Is it even called that, never heard it before...), I either avoid it or sigh and open it (depending on my mood at the time), either way I am already disinclined to post an answer.
Though the best reason I can think of is that work, schools etc. are up and running again and everyone are trying to get back into the old routines (it's taken me about a month thus far).

Fithero:
As I do not know your age, Fithero, I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that your need to point fingers and insult people for using correct (or mostly correct) english is merely because you are even younger than I.
While I think you did well in the start of this thread, I think you have found that you had little to contribute to the dialogue that was taking place and just began to pick out erbmjw as a target to insult.
But then again, as you have already said: "thats just me, what the hell do i know"

erbmjw
I think you did a great job guiding Jsmit4, but I (like others) fail to see why you had to ask the questions first, I'd probably have included them at the top and written what I assumed based on his type of writing and the information he had given you.
But then again, I'm not you and you managed to help him long before I even came online.

My issue wasnt with his style of writing (though i must admit i did find it rather annoying) it was with the fact that he thought that certain people were, shall we say, 'below' his help.

Just because someone uses "plz" or "lol" alot, doesnt show a lack of brains.

And my comment of "thats just me, what the hell do i know" was in relation to what i find arrogant. You cant exactly just tack that onto the end of your argument and use it out of context.

Also... it was said with a large amount of sarcasim.

ps: Im 21 if it matters
