| kaoswarrior06-18-07, 10:12 PM | Ok, My prospective DM has decided to run a Lvl 5 Gestalt, Non-good campaign... And once more I have more ideas than knowledge, and I turn to 'The Wisdom of the Boards' Stats are not set, but are rolled up (quite well actually, 12/15/15/16/16/17 - All rolled in the presence of the DM) I am thinking along the Lines of 1. Warlock/Rogue: Dark Figure, quite malicious. Visually like Lead character from the game: Thief 2. Rogue/Monk: Following his path, crushing his opposition. Visually a 'Dark Ryu' look. 3. Monk/Warlock: Dark Mystic, combining Power and Wisdom. Visually along the lines of Lo-Pan of Big Trouble in Little China If anyone has used similar builds, or has something to contribute: I would really appreciate it. Peace out Peeps |
| Fithero06-18-07, 11:43 PM | Ok, this usually belongs on the CharOp boards, but ill throw my :twocents: in anyway. Ranger/Warlock would be better than rogue/warlock since your getting all good saves, good BaB and d8hp. Still a sneak character, better able to handle himself in combat though. Fight/Monk could be better than rogue monk. Still crushing his opponents, but has good BaB and d10hp plus tons of feats. As for monk/warlock, that would just be cool :P Peace |
| BroadStreetBully06-19-07, 01:37 AM | a gestalt i recently played was a human 5 Swash/2 rogue on one side, and 7 Duskblade on the other (with a 36 point buy). i took 2 weapon fighting, improved 2 weapon fighting, somatic weaponry, and daring outlaw. i also used the alternate swashbuckler feature Shield of Blades from PHB2, for the extra 2 AC. while fighting defensively during a full attack, my AC was up around 27-28. and trust me, i had ALOT of tricks up my sleeve. i came 8 hitpoints away from singlehandedly killing a Gargantuan Monstrous Scorpion in just 4 rounds (but i failed a Fort save and took 7 Con damage in the beginning of round 5, so a new character was in order.....) |
| kaoswarrior06-19-07, 01:26 PM | Ok, seems to be some confusion in my presence here... I do not want to min-max my potential, I am wondering if my Roleplay potentials will work. I ask if people have used similar builds, that I can get their opinions on them, not their advice on how to abuse them. I do not care if I have all high saves, or the potential to dish out huge amounts of damage - I have ever played for the Roleplay aspect of the games. Dont get me wrong, I thank you for trying to lead me to a powerful character option - but it was not my desire to optimize my builds... I am here to develop my ideas. |
| BroadStreetBully06-20-07, 12:47 AM | what would you like his/her background to be? a personality is easy enough to come up with (for instance, Garrett from "Thief" is a sarcastic rogue with no qualms of pitting other people against each other for the sake of his gain while maintaining the status-quo). but for an actual background, i am loathe to come up with one for someone who has no idea of who they want their character to be. i'm not about to write out 5 paragraphs on how you overcame a tale of woe to become a revered monk in a secluded monestary if what you really want is a short justification on why your character is a maniacal Warlock hell-bent on making the tallest shellfish pyramid in all of Faerun. not only that, but the 3 gestalt combinations you laid out all seem like they would have drastically different backgrounds. based on the fact that you haven't narrowed it down to just one archetype yet, it's pretty easy to think you were asking for min/max's and other ideas for class/race combos. |
| Fithero06-20-07, 01:42 AM | Warlock/Monk: In your younger teen years, you were a hellion, terrorizing your village with cruel tricks and pranks that often left others hurt, emotionally or even physically. You werent that supprised when you were approached by *insert warlock infusing entity here* and offered a deal. All it asked was that you continued doing what you were doing, and use the powers it gave you to do so. You did so, until someone close to you was killed. You retreated from your village and all that you knew. You found a monastry and they welcomed you in upon hearing your story. They agreed to help you control and even improve your new found powers, while adding purpose to your life. You may still be a hellion, bringing terror to those who mean nothing to you, or you may be trying to redeem yourself. Either way, you still bare the regret and guilt for what you did to your loved ones. Kinda open, kinda crappy but like BroadStreetBully said, you gotta give us more info. |
| BroadStreetBully06-20-07, 02:08 AM | not bad, Fithero. and i have to admit, this is by far my favorite board in the entire forum. 2. Rogue/Monk: Following his path, crushing his opposition. Visually a 'Dark Ryu' look. Pretty cool, i have to admit i love the new Ninja Gaiden games. how bout this: Your character (let's call him Ninjaman for now) grew up in a secluded monastery. He was taught from a young age about the balance of nature, how to concentrate his thoughts and live with purpose and health. Unbeknownst to him, an old rival of the monastery leader gave information to a large gang of half-orc bandits about the monastery. The bandits attacked in the night with fire and magic, killing few people but utterly destroying the natural surroundings and balance of life. After traveling for weeks, Ninjaman and the other refugees found acceptance in another monastic order. Ninjaman, several years later, could not keep the disquiet of his soul controlled even through deep meditation; he yearned to learn more of the greater world. He ran away with a passing caravan, and eventually came to a large city. There he learned firsthand the hardships of poverty and crime, and slowly worked his way into the tenuous position of a common thief. After several weeks of this, his conscious mind rebelled at the practice of stealing and the imbalance it represented, but something kept him in the city: he heard the name of the man who betrayed his former monastery into the hands of the half-orcs. Determined to discover more of this man's whereabouts, Ninjaman is slowly working his way up the ladder of a noteworthy thieves' guild... |
| kaoswarrior06-20-07, 05:40 PM | Fithero and BroadStreetBully are hitting the proverbial nail on the head: I was having difficulty seeing how I could combine the classes in my background. Rogue/Monk Starting life as a petty pickpocket, Vickers made the mistake of picking the wrong pocket - finding himself cut off from his guild and beaten to within an inch of his life. A passing Monk of the Closed Fist philosophy saw the beaten child and posed a challenge... "Prove you deserve to learn... make your way to my temple outside of town, and I will teach you the secrets of the Closed Fist - Strength will be yours, and you shall have the power to fufil the destiny before you" Vickers got to his feet... and despite the pain of broken ribs and his lacerated frame, made his way to the temple - his rage fueling him along his way. The years passed quickly and Vickers had established himself as a natural to his training: soon rising above the other novices in the school... no more can be taught - it must be learned through life experience. |
| R4za06-20-07, 11:51 PM | Err... CE Warlock/Paladin of Slaughter? Good Cha synnergy, using Hideous Blow with whatever vicous two handed weapon you prefer to deliver both practically and thematically nasty melee attacks, and the theme works great: if a paladin of slaughter is a warrior enhanced by divine magic gained from a devotion to sadism and destruction, the warlock part is simply another huge chunk of raw demonic power. Heck, warlock heritage supposedly brings a natural pull towards evil and/or chaos, so someone choosing to embrace this could be a paladin of slaughter by principle with or without the class features. |
| Daxen06-22-07, 04:39 PM | Yeah I will have to second the sheer bada**itude of a Monk/Warlock and you have the stats to pull it off. I don't know where you will put the 12 but as this is the Development boards, not the Op boards, there is just something inherently awesome about a character who sold his soul to become one with the universe. " I am the grim servant of death and it brings me peace beyond measure and power beyond imagination." If he were a good guy I would recommend VoP. What equiptment does this guy need? This guy comes with easy quotes from the get go. "By extinguishing the flame of your life, I shall spark the candle of my own enlightenment, and your very soul shall fuel my Eldritch power!" Maybe even Tatooed Monk???? The possibilities are endless. have fun, Dax |
| Fithero06-23-07, 09:41 AM | If he goes monk/warlock, the best he could be is Lawful neutral, or perhaps even Lawful Evil with the Touch of Benovlence feat from Champions of Ruin (the characters evil, though preforms random acts of kindness... means holy weapons dont do the extra damage to you 50% of the time... its a good feat, more for the role playing aspect than anything else.) And i like the quotes Daxen came up with. Nothing more kickass than a monk with a blast attack... just dont let him become Goku :P Peace |

It's neither Evil nor Chaotic. |

| Poe The Great06-24-07, 11:33 PM | One of my favorite Gestalt combinations was on one side a ninja, hexblade, and then into ghost-faced killer, and on the other side was a warlock. It was a very thematically dark character. |
