| brio107-27-07, 08:58 AM | I have a problem in which direction to take my character into multiclass or prestige class without ruining the continuity of the character or the fluff, as I am going into a different adventuring group that requires maybe different abilities. Currently Volpes Brio is a Human Factotum 5/ Swashbuckler 3. He is kind of a cross between a renaissance man and a deft swordsman, using knowledge and skill to solve problems and defeat enemys . Although I took the factotum from the dungeonscape sourcebook, our adventures have so far focused on investigatorial and city based campaigns. The factotum's versetality means that he can usually hold the line by himself in both combat and social situations, and swing into battle with his rapier when need demands it. The current adventuring group includes a : Mage 6 (transmutation specialist)/ Ranger 2, Begulier 5, Scout 3 Barbarian 3 Rogue 3 Bard 1 So far the mix has worked reasonably well with the mage and beguiler getting us out of social and combat scrapes, with the barbarian doing most of the slaughter and the factotum/swashbuckler filling in the gaps when the intrigue of the adventures requires versetality and a deft blade. However as my character is going to join another adventure group which is more, How shall we say- combat orientated, dungeon delving, Treasure seeking, XP gaining group, full of Warrior/Paladin tanks and Sorceror Blaster Types. Clearly my character needs to be come a bit more of a mean machine, but I need a multi class or work towards a prestige class the still keeps the image of the Civilised adventuring Scholar/Swordsman. Ideas? |

Your character could become dark and withdraw into himself, and care less and less about things. Combat and the risk of death become more and more interesting for him, as a sort of release or destraction from the pain. That or you could just have him go, "Cripes, this new group gets into alot of fights, I better toughen up!" Either, or!:D |

I was thinking maybe multi classing to marshal for a bit, for the charisma perks and to give the character a slight leadership bent that wasn't there before. Hes kind of already dark...thats why the character took up adventuring because in the fluff something happened to him during his period of study and he suffered a great betrayal that led to disillusionment. He took up his rapier and became determined to prove his own theories on the world (he's neutal Lawful by the way.) I still want to to keep his scholar/swordsman attitude, but if he's going to rough and tumble with the bad boys down below he needs something to make him a bit tougher but still be the same sort of character. Thanks for the idea anyways. |

"Brio cover the door over there, the ghasts are breaking through!" "What shall I do Ragnar?" "Dunno! Wiggle your fingers and pretend to cast a spell, draw your rapier if you have to!" "how about locking the door?" "Oh for the love of Pelor!" No if hes going to be something underground it has to be a more direct approach. This character is done with being a rapier slinging multi skill expert... |
