| cog_n_taz10-08-07, 05:42 AM | Rimewing, Spirit of the land Each tribe has a different name for him. Each totem, a different representation. Each druid, a different level of respect. Yet the spirits gave him but one name – Rimewing. Created to be above his kin, the spirits of his kind suffused his mind and soul. Each waking moment, they whispered to him. he was made with a divine spark in his mind, granting him intelligence far superior to his primitive animal kin. Trekking through the Frostfell, he knew his duty – to protect the land from those who would defile it. The long winter must be sustained. Created by Auril herself, he was the spirit of the land, and he must not allow the long frost to end. The dark blue, icy fires surrounded him, the cold walls of blue ice glimmering in the weak blue light. The smell of incense filled the room, as robed men and women danced around a frigid fire, arms raised, chanting in the mysterious language of ice – one that Rimewing knew well. On this day, Auril had given him a new duty. he had learned of the outside world, learned of the deserts, the mountains, the forests and swamps that lay beyond the Frostfell. For many years, he had defended the forest. Those that would defile it were left in a frosty grave. For many years, he had defended the winter. Now, the winter must grow. So it was that Rimewing left the land he called home, the land that he was tied to from the moment that Auril created him. he set out to gain power, for he was no fool, and knew that his magic as it was would not be enough. When he found the power he sought… On that day, the world would know of Auril’s will. On that day, the great winter will come…and it shall never end. By Auril, the winter shall never end. Just realized it's shorter than my average. Anyway... the challenge is thus - guess what race Rimewing is? I'm telling you that he's a sorceror/frost mage with the Spirit Animal template (Frostburn). The rest? Well, I'm giving the board five guesses, and then I'll announce the answer. happy guessing! P.S. Auril is a goddess of ice with aims to cover the world in another ice age. Neutral Evil, appears in PGtF and Frostburn. |
| Fithero10-08-07, 08:16 AM | An Anthromorphic Polar Bear? Or perhaps some other animal.... sounds interesting in any case :) Ill comment more when the answer is revealed! Peace |
| LadyLindis10-08-07, 02:00 PM | An Anthromorphic wolf. :) That's my guess at least...I may change it if you give more clues. Nice job on the writing. |
| CrimsonDeath10-08-07, 04:20 PM | How does a Spirit Animal gain class levels? Spirit Animal can only be applied to animals, which have an Intelligence of 1 or 2 and advance by HD, not by class. |
| cog_n_taz10-08-07, 06:45 PM | he's still in the making... make him awakened too, I guess. |
| CrimsonDeath10-08-07, 07:51 PM | he's still in the making... make him awakened too, I guess. Mechanically, it still doesn't work. An Awakened animal becomes a Magical Beast, so he's not a valid base for the Spirit Animal template. Meanwhile, a Spirit Animal is a fey, so it's not a valid target for Awaken. |
| cog_n_taz10-08-07, 08:07 PM | Okay, so I'll nix the spirit animal template and keep him as an awakened (or possibly anthro, and yes, either answer will be correct) animal. That, or I fiat-template him, if the DM allows. Anyway... these are the character development forums, so, what's your guess, crimson? |
| cheshire_grin10-08-07, 08:58 PM | Rimewing implies something that flies. An arctic owl or something? (Really off-the-wall guess: a dire penguin. ;)) |
| CrimsonDeath10-08-07, 11:29 PM | Okay, so I'll nix the spirit animal template and keep him as an awakened (or possibly anthro, and yes, either answer will be correct) animal. That, or I fiat-template him, if the DM allows. Anyway... these are the character development forums, so, what's your guess, crimson? Sounds like some sort of hawk. |
| cog_n_taz10-09-07, 12:56 AM | Come on folks, just one more guess! |
| Uberwoot10-09-07, 01:59 AM | You mean, just one more guess and you'll tell us? If that is the case, I guess flying purple people eater. I don't have my copy of frostfell or I'd actually take a shot at a serious guess. /woot |
| cog_n_taz10-09-07, 04:26 AM | Seriously? Well, here goes nothing... Cheshire got it right - sort of. he's an anthro penguin (or possibly spirit animal/awakened by fiat). Mind you, that answer was a joke (I think), so you only get half points:P he has Fimbulwinter and Frostfell on his spell list, ofcourse. he has a mobile fortress in the from of a Skyberg (iceberg, but flies. Thank you, Frostburn) with a stronghold carved into it. Said Skyberg is carved from Blue Ice (ice that melts at the same temperature as steel. Again, Frostburn) and is manned with weapons that include ballistae made to fire huge icicles. he keeps a contingent of ice beasts (effigy-esque, but slightly different, made from ice/snow) and an ice golem (Frostburn...pattern recognition, anyone?), plus summoned creatures. As for quotes... (when casting Fimbulwinter+Permanency) "Let the Frost Queen's neverending reign begin." "Just smile and wave, boys. Just smile and wave." (only kidding! Thank you, Madagascar) ...On your next post, let me know if it took you until this line to realize that he is not, in fact, a serious character. I just get a kick out of roleplaying him as such and seeing how long it takes for the penny to drop, so to speak. Be honest, now! I promise I won't laugh! ...Well, only a little:P |
| Fithero10-09-07, 04:30 AM | Hey... as long as he doesnt dance, sing or surf... he's cool with me :P |
| cog_n_taz10-09-07, 04:38 AM | Didn't notice the joke, I take it? Well... if I go for a more obvious "he's a joke" approach, I'll give him goggles of devilsight (lets him see in magical darkness) and describe them as sunglasses. |
| Khadmus10-09-07, 07:55 AM | I suck at these. I got "half-dragon fiendish anthromorphic dog" as the answer to a riddle whose real answer was "kobold". |
| cog_n_taz10-09-07, 08:19 AM | I suck at these. I got "half-dragon fiendish anthromorphic dog" as the answer to a riddle whose real answer was "kobold". I believe the word you're looking for is "talented", or "impressively creative":P ...And yet, you more or less summed up kobolds there >.> |
| Daxen10-09-07, 08:23 AM | I suck at these. I got "half-dragon fiendish anthromorphic dog" as the answer to a riddle whose real answer was "kobold". Same thing |
| dragor_shadowfury10-09-07, 08:48 AM | Same thing not if the dog is of one of those large races... but hell then we close to a half-dog half-horse. |
| cog_n_taz10-09-07, 09:39 AM | ...Guys? The topic is over here, crying itself to sleep. how 'bout we get back to it (to, not at)? |
| CrimsonDeath10-09-07, 02:04 PM | ...Guys? The topic is over here, crying itself to sleep. how 'bout we get back to it (to, not at)? Alright, then. Wouldn't it take about a level 25 caster to make Fimbulwinter Permanent? (And yes, I figured out he was probably a joke as soon as you said he was a penguin, and I had inklings even sooner.) |
| cheshire_grin10-09-07, 02:08 PM | Cheshire got it right - sort of. he's an anthro penguin (or possibly spirit animal/awakened by fiat). Mind you, that answer was a joke (I think), so you only get half points:P Yeah, it was... but then, so is the character, so I think I should get full points. ;) |
| cog_n_taz10-09-07, 06:05 PM | Fair enough, full marks:D 25th? Eh? Ah well... for the full equipment, permanent fimbulwinter and the like, I'll use make him a campaign villain and use DM fiat/plot:D ...Ofcourse, if he wasn't a penguin, he'd make for a rather scary villain, so I think I'll make him some other, less ridicolous race. |
| CrimsonDeath10-09-07, 06:11 PM | Actually, there's a pretty long tradition of villainous Penguins. There's the Nightmare Penguin from The Adventures of Little Nemo, Frost Penguin from Mega Man X, King Dedede from the Kirby games, and even Batman's enemy The Penguin. |
| dragor_shadowfury10-10-07, 02:03 AM | I think I'll make a goldfish villain sometime... Anyway in a joke game he would be awesome fun as villain. |
| Green_eyes10-10-07, 04:06 AM | There was the Goldfish villain in Earthworm Jim. ;) |
| dragor_shadowfury10-10-07, 04:28 AM | There was the Goldfish villain in Earthworm Jim. ;) CRAP! and the mosquito has been claimed by Rayman... spider is done to undeath... butterfly! |
| Fithero10-10-07, 08:04 AM | butterfly! "Because no one suspects the butterfly!" - Bart Simpson |
| cog_n_taz10-10-07, 08:11 AM | Titanic half-fiend Axolotl, because no one suspects the giant demonic Axolotl. Now...back on topic, please? |
| CrimsonDeath10-10-07, 05:50 PM | Titanic half-fiend Axolotl, because no one suspects the giant demonic Axolotl. Now...back on topic, please? What is the topic? We can't guess the guy's race any more, because you told us. And now you say you may not even use that for his race. What are we supposed to talk about? (However, I applaud you for suggesting the Axolotl. But then, I herd u liek them.) |
| Fithero10-11-07, 08:28 AM | What is the topic? We can't guess the guy's race any more, because you told us. I was kinda wondering the same thing. And anyhow, this is a public forum. I dont really think the original poster even 'owns' the thread. As long as people are discussing things somehow related to the origional topic, its all good. In this case... it seems to have degenerated into a series of jokes about the various humours races players can choose. Which seems fitting, since the original race was a joke. So in my opinion, the thread has been on track all along. Peace |
